Bluebell House Care Home is one of a group of ten Residential Care Homes owned and operated by the Stonehaven (Healthcare) Group in Devon and Cornwall. As with all homes in the group each Resident enjoys a very high standard of care in a 'home and family' focused environment.

Bluebell House offers 25 bedrooms (mostly single) where elderly people, elderly people with physical disability and elderly people with dementia, are expertly cared for.

There is a dedicated and highly trained Care Team whose compassion and skill make Donnington House a real HOME where frequent recommendation and positive feedback are regularly enjoyed.

Carers understand that for many the prospect of a move to a Residential Home can be a daunting one. To help dispel any concerns, carers offer free a 'Familiarisation Day' to prospective residents (so long as capacity allows) - where a prospective resident may spend a day at the home with a family member or friend.

It is the desire to ensure that all who come into contact with Bluebell House leave with an overwhelmingly positive impression of the home.

I recently visited my mum with my brother last week and thought how lovely it was to see all the artwork displayed a round her day room that the residents had been involved with.
It was a sea theme. We could see how much time and effort have been put into these wonderful creations.
We also visited
on Bluebell house family day.
And it was lovely to hear the residence choir singing.
We could see a lot of hard work had gone into this wonderful day.

We placed Dad at Bluebell after a diagnosis of Alzheimer's and he needed 24 hour care after various hospital stays for falls and illnesses, and he has been there a year now. Despite his decline he seems very content there and has a lovely room with fantastic sea views. The staff are wonderful & I can't
praise them all enough! They gently encourage him to engage in activities and he is very much cared for in a kind and empathic way. He has made some friends & says he is looked after well (he thinks he is staying at a hotel!) he really enjoys the activities and loves the food!
After feeling so guilty at placing him we soon realised he was in the best place for him to be well taken care of, and we highly recommend Bluebell if you are in the same position as we were.
Thank you to all the Carers, management, cleaners and other staff there who are helping make dads final years the best they can be.

For the third year running Bluebell House held its family day last Saturday 28th June. What a great event! The range of activities, events and entertainment on the day were exceptional and the day was so enjoyed by the residents and their families and friends. The hard work both in the preparation
and planning and on the day by the staff was phenomenal and a heartfelt thank you does not seem enough for the gratitude felt by those attending

Thank you Bluebell for an amazing day yesterday. A very well organised event which everyone enjoyed. In particular I would like to thank the Activities Manager and the team for working with Mum over the past few months to give her the confidence to sing a solo song. A truly special moment. Singing
has also given Mum the confidence to join in other activities too. I'm always made to feel welcome at Bluebell and Mum is very happy and settled there. Thank you for all that you do.

Mum has been at Bluebell House for three years this September, and in that time the care has always been extremely good. The staff show endless patience and care, even when mum is being uncooperative. There are plenty of opporttunities for her to participate in numerous activities, some of which mum
enjoys! Mum's dementia is advancing but she is obviously happy and settled, and I am always grateful for the care and support that everyone at Bluebell House gives to mum and to me.

We are pleased with the care my grandma has received during her time at Bluebell House Care Home. The staff are always very attentive to her needs and she feels safe and secure there. The activities coordinator does a marvellous job and works really hard to engage all residents, including my grandma
(which is not always easy)! To ensure she is not spending too much time on her own.

Dad was placed into Bluebell House Care Home following a hospital admission.
After much soul searching, as a family, we decided it was in Dad's best interest to remain as a resident at Bluebell, self-funding (whilst he can).
I'm very happy to report we made the right decision, Dad is thriving.
Thanks
to the activities coordinator, Dad is happily involved in all things sociable, especially the choir where you would have found him proudly taking lead vocals at the family fun day.
I would also like to give a shoutout to the manager who I find to be very personable, approachable and efficient.
I would like to give a thank you to all carers, cleaners, cooks the odd-job man who Dad seems to have taken a shine to.
I pray Dad can continue going from strength to strength in your care.

We very much enjoyed attending the Family Fun Day. It was lovely to celebrate the 100th birthday of one of the residents. We appreciated the thought and care that had been put into making it a memorable day for him. As family, we are heartened to see how much my mother-in-law enjoyed the programme of
events - especially the musical items.
A big thank you to one particular member of staff who organised the Fun Day and all those who ably supported her in putting on the day. It was indeed fun!
We have also appreciated the patient way my mother-in-law is gently encouraged to engage with other residents through the activities put on week by week. A big highlight earlier this year has been the change of room so that she now has a glorious view of the sea and coast that she loves and knows so well. It is also noticeable on recent trips that the intrusive sound of the call alarms seems to have been reduced, making for a calmer atmosphere in the home.

The staff are very friendly. My dad has been with them 2 years now. The food has got much better, as my dad does like his food.
He has a room with a view to the sea and enjoys sitting looking out. He provides the quizzes when asked for the residents, although does find it hard to write now. Due to
his spinal condition he finds it uncomfortable spending time in the lounge therefore does not meet as many people as he wishes. It is a shame there are a lack of volunteer people who come round and spend time with the residents as stimulation is a real must and the staff don't have the time, although they are excellent, they have all the residents to care for. It is a very caring home.

It's lovely to read that our care team are very friendly. We've just completed a thorough upgrade of the food provision at Bluebell House where we have engaged with an industry expert provider. We are seeing fantastic results with more residents coming to the dining room for their meals, residents eating more and a general lift in mental and physical wellness. Bluebell has an activity coordinator and extensive activities schedule. We welcome volunteers and encourage them where possible - though any such individuals would need to have an enhanced CRB check and sign a Volunteer Contract. I have always been very happy with the care provided by Bluebell for the resident and so has he.
I am also very pleased with the improvements that have been made recently both inside of the home
and outside in the gardens.
Also it is great that the annual fun day this year is centred on his 100th
year and he is very pleased to know that his life is being highlighted and celebrated - thank you to one member of staff in particular for your efforts!
He has been with Bluebell now for nearly 6 years and has been very happy and content.

Bluebelle House has some great staff with caring and conscientious empathy with their residents. They do their upmost to enhance the lives of all the residents with a great activity schedule. My mother has been a resident at Bluebell for several years now. The team are exceptional- so dedicated and caring. There is a wide range of activities for residents to get involved with, and there are trips out, most recently a drive around the local area to enjoy the pretty Christmas lights. The manager
is very effective, and if I have concerns, they are addressed very speedily. Better food would be a major step.

Most staff are caring and helpful, however, there are issues that are disappointing.
Mum pays c£1500 per week privately, serious mobility issues, we have been told she has dementia and is very confused and has entered EOL Phase. She has to privately fund her own wheelchair £25/wk, which is disappointing.
She has contracted several contagious illnesses and been hospitalised twice, once with pneumonia, during her 2 years at Bluebell. A staff member advised they have to work when they are sick as they otherwise don't get paid, which seems outrageous in a care home environment.
I am 3 hours away and it is difficult for me to visit, but I try to call most days. I estimate that 2 of 3 attempts to call the phone is not answered (50% during the week, 75% at weekends). It is frustrating as, when I do get through, Mum is often asleep, given her condition, so there are few chances to speak. She says she is very lonely, I think she receives personal care, food, but would benefit from more company.

I know we have corresponded previously with regards to the funding of your mother's care and your refusal to acknowledge receipt of the care home contract and fee rate that was agreed with you upon placing your mum at the home. I only have limited words with which to reply here. In brief - your mum is paying £1,387.37 pw. Specialist equipment not supplied by NHS / OT's does incure an extra cost which has to go on the care fee. Pneumonia is, sadly, a common illness - especially in the elderly. Your mum had Covid once towards the end of the pandemic - she did not require hospitalisation. All team members are paid sick pay and should not work if unwell. We have a very active activities schedule in Bluebell House. I'm sorry about the phone not being answered. Mostly, of course, I'm sorry to learn that your mum has entered an EOL stage. I know our team will continue to ensure she is well cared for. Kindest regards.

I visit once a month with my Pat dog, and we are always made so welcome both by the staff and the residents.
Such a lovely location with amazing views and is always neat and tidy. Always some activity taking place to engage the residents, and the smile on their faces when they meet my dog makes it
all worthwhile.

Very satisfied for my mother to be staying here. We don't visit too often and she hasn't recognised me now for a few years. It's a pity dogs are no longer allowed to visit because this was the only thing that made her smile and appear happy.

The staff are caring and well-skilled, and the management is extremely good and leads well. My mum has been in Bluebell for 13 months, and her health has improved. Activities are super, and Mum is always involved. The staff have a great sense of humour, which Mum loves. Any problems were easily solved,
