Bluebell House Care Home

from S D (Daughter of Resident) published on 14 May 2026
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
My father has been at Bluebell House for some time. The staff are very caring and empathetic to the situation with his dementia and on the whole very supportive. They do seem to understand dad's needs very well.
Although generally the home has a homely feel and doesn't feel clinical or over modern,
the rooms and bathrooms are a bit tired and need updating although not uncomfortable for dad. I also think the building is generally looking a bit tired and in need of a lick of paint and a bit of updating. The garden at the back is difficult to use despite the time spent on it and again is looking a bit scruffy at the moment which is a shame. The cost has risen by £1000 per month in the last 18 months and I think a bit more money should be spent on upkeep. I do feel that they could keep us more informed about what is happening with dad sometimes I am surprised when I find something out inadvertently that I think they should have at least made a call or messaged about.
Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at Bluebell House Care HomeGood morning. Thank you for this feedback - its nice to read that the care team are very caring and supportive and understand your dads needs well. I note what you say about the building and rooms - but that's not to say I agree:) - Bluebell House is a home - we have an ongoing programme of maintenance and renewal and I'm always struck by how clean, tidy and fresh it is when I visit. With regards to the garden, we are just emerging from a very wet winter - most gardens and outside areas I see are still in the process of being tidied up and made ready for the summer - with Bluebell no different. Care fees have indeed risen in the past 18 months - across the industry and in line with (and probably a bit behind) inflation. With regards to information - please do let the Care Home Managers know how often you would like to be update and for what reasons. You are invited to attend bi-monthly resident meetings and take care in care plan reviews. Kindest regards, Nathan.

My wife is not the person I married over 60 years ago, prior to the last 2 and a half years she was the most caring and nice individual. I am right in saying that her manner has not been the same since from almost day one when she was upset because of the loss of dignity through being washed, etc.,
and the hoist was never to her liking, and because of this she has been bedbound for most of her time at the home. The staff are an excellent bunch, and they have done their utmost to make her stay ok. All I can say is that dementia is a horrible mind-changing illness.
Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at Primrose HouseGood afternoon Dudley B. Thank you for taking the time to leave this really honest feedback of your experience with our Care Team and Care Home at Primrose House in Westward Ho! North Devon. I am, of course, really sorry to read how dementia has affected your wife and how it has changed her - it is, as you say, a devastating illness. Thank you for highlighting our care team and the excellent work they do - caring and compassion are vital in this industry - and our care team at Primrose House have loads. They are also highly trained and possess lots of vital and expert knowledge which enables them to provide the care that is needed, on both a physical and social level. Thank you again for your kind feedback, I know our care team will really appreciate your appreciation of what they do. Kindest regards, Nathan.

I am so pleased with the way Bluebell House is looking after my husband. The team are caring for him so well. He feels loved and safe. He feels valued and appreciated. He recognises that this is his new home, and takes part in several of the activities, especially

Dad has been at Primrose House over a year now. He receives excellent care, including the additional care needed after a couple of short hospital stays. In addition to this, he is treated like family. The team find time to chat with him, listen to his stories about his life, laugh at his jokes and
go the extra mile by remembering how he likes things done. It is a great comfort knowing he is happy and well cared for

I am a resident at Cross Park House and will be for quite a bit longer. I have been here for nearly 12 months. I did have a chance of moving but I like the staff and get looked after very well. The rooms are a bit small but are warm & cosy. Friends who come to see me always get offered a cuppa tea or
coffee. They say how nice & friendly the staff & management are.
Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at Cross Park House Care HomeGood afternoon Pamela. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this review of your experience living at Cross Park. It's lovely to read that you are happy at Cross Park House and would not want to leave as you get looked after very well and like the staff. Yes, Cross Park is a converted domestic house so rooms are not built to modern size and shape but, as you say, they are more 'cosy' and homely as a result. It's lovely to read that your friends and family who visit are always well looked after and say how nice and friendly the staff and management are. I note the lower score for activities - whilst the team have been doing their best to compensate we have been without a dedicated activities coordinator for about 6 weeks now - we are actively recruiting and eager to see a full and engaging activities calendar re-established at Cross Park. Thank you again for your kind words, Nathan.

My dad is a resident at Chollacott nursing home. I can not recommend this home highly enough the carers are fantastic and really look after the residents. They care for the residents like the are there own family. The management is also fantastic always happy to listen and help you any time.
The food
is lovely and always a variety of different meals.
The only thing I would say that would improve it would be some condiments like sauces, as my dad is on drake ward some small bottles could be provided so that residents up stairs have the choice to.
Also ice pops and cornettos for hotter days.
And please bring back the chocolate, crisps and fizzy drinks these little treats can brighten a person's day. At the moment we are bringing some of these things in ourselves, but would be nice if this was provided for all residents again.
Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at Chollacott House Nursing Home & Drake UnitGood morning Sarah R. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this lovely review of your experience, and most importantly, that of your Dad, at our Chollacott House Care Home with Nursing in Tavistock, Devon. Thank you for recognising the care and dedication of our carers and management teams. The Registered Manager has advised me that she has already taken action to ensure that condiments are always available for all residents at meal times. We certainly do offer ice pops and ice creams on hotter days - a lovely treat and great way to help ensure good hydration. We introduced the hydration stations over a year ago to, again, encourage good hydration during the day. In some homes these were embellished to become 'treat stations'. This was never the plan as, as happened, we found that residents were eating too many of these snacks and then not wanting to eat their nutritious meals. These treats can still be requested and are offered on occasions. Kindest regards, Nathan.

Mum's stay was not a long one, but in the time she was there she was looked after with kindness, compassion and care. All the staff were excellent but in particular, Rodney, Deb and Fran were exceptional.
My sister and I were very touched by the attention shown to mum. When she finally died, it was
dignified and calm. Thanks to all at The Manor for making a difficult time a little easier.

As a daughter I was worried about putting my dad in a home as you hear a lot of stories about the homes but I cannot stress enough how the staff and management have shown nothing but care and compassion to my dad.
Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at St Petroc's House Care HomeGood morning Susan H. Thank you for this kind feedback. Sadly it's often only the 'bad news' that people hear - when the truth is that, as you have found - a good care home (of which there are, thankfully, many) can provide a life enhancing experience to both residents and family members at a time which is often very stressful where families are being rushed into making such important decisions about something they (most often) know very little about. I'm sure that many people, perhaps just looking at care homes for the first time, will relate strongly to your experience and find your words very reassuring. Most importantly, of course, it's lovely to read that your Dad has settled in well and is being well looked after. Kindest regards, Nathan.

Generally pleased with the service received from Dove Tree. Staff are courteous and friendly. Visitors can sometimes wait 2 or 3 minutes before front door is open.
Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at Dove Tree HouseGood afternoon CS. Thank you for taking the time to publish this review of your experience with our Care Team and Care Home at Dove Tree House in Exeter. It's really nice to read that our care team are courteous and friendly and that you are generally pleased with the service. I note the point raised about the front door - and I have indeed experienced that myself whilst visiting Dove Tree. The care team do, of course, have to prioritise residents care and they may all be busy. Nonetheless, I will mention this again to Mary and Sarah. Also noted the 3 stars for cleanliness - we're only ever happy with5 stars for cleanliness - I will ask Mary and Sarah to look into this - and please - if ever you are at Dove Tree and have any concerns - please do let Mary and / or Sarah know - they can then be dealt with straight away. Thank you again for this feedback. Kindest regards, Nathan.

The staff at The Manor have been wonderful at caring for my mother and supporting my father as she has declinded with dementia. Their love, care and attention have been exceptional, providing a lovely home for my mum and finding ways to bring you to her life through their hugs, smiles and through music.
Thank you.
