Comfortable, caring home. Very kind, pleasant staff. They make us feel welcome and are attentive without being intrusive. Mum especially appreciates the outdoor space and is often there with her "regulars". We couldn't have wished for a better place for mum.

Good afternoon George R. Thank you for taking the time to leave this positive review of your experience with our Care Team and Care Home at Dove Tree House in Exeter. It's really nice to read that your mother is very happy and that our care team are all very pleasant. I hear what you say about the time for the front door to be answered - I've had this experience on a number of occasions when visiting our care homes - as you say - our care teams are focussed 100% on the care of our residents - on occasions this will indeed mean that the front door cannot be answered straight away - please do bear with our care teams on this matter - they will greet to warmly when able to do so:) Kindest regards

I recently visited my mum with my brother last week and thought how lovely it was to see all the artwork displayed a round her day room that the residents had been involved with.
It was a sea theme. We could see how much time and effort have been put into these wonderful creations.
We also visited
on Bluebell house family day.
And it was lovely to hear the residence choir singing.
We could see a lot of hard work had gone into this wonderful day.

Thank you for taking the time to publish this review of our Care Team and Care Home at The Manor in Exminster. It's really nice to read that you feel our Care Team are 'very good' and 'always ready to help'. I note that you have rated three items as only 3-Stars. We are keen to always be 5 star and perhaps on occasion 4 - but never 3 or less:) Please could I ask that you talk to the Care Home Manager, Dawn, with any concerns with regards to cleanliness and the room. Value for money is always going to be a very subjective issue - knowing the costs involved in care provision I am confident that we (and the vast majority of good care homes in the country) provide exceptional value for money. The issue may be more that care provision costs a lot of money - we all agree with that - but in terms of value for money I don't think many other products come close:) Kindest regards

We placed Dad at Bluebell after a diagnosis of Alzheimer's and he needed 24 hour care after various hospital stays for falls and illnesses, and he has been there a year now. Despite his decline he seems very content there and has a lovely room with fantastic sea views. The staff are wonderful & I can't
praise them all enough! They gently encourage him to engage in activities and he is very much cared for in a kind and empathic way. He has made some friends & says he is looked after well (he thinks he is staying at a hotel!) he really enjoys the activities and loves the food!
After feeling so guilty at placing him we soon realised he was in the best place for him to be well taken care of, and we highly recommend Bluebell if you are in the same position as we were.
Thank you to all the Carers, management, cleaners and other staff there who are helping make dads final years the best they can be.

Good afternoon AL. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this review. It's really lovely to read about your Dad's journey at Bluebell House - that he seems very content and that he has made friends. Thank you for highlighting the amazing work of our care team - all of them - front of house and back. And thank for for detailing your own experience - the guilt that many people feel towards having their loved ones move into a residential care setting - and the subsequent realisation that in almost all cases it is the best option to enable loved ones to be well cared for and supported to live as full and active a life as they can. Kindest regards, Nathan.

For the third year running Bluebell House held its family day last Saturday 28th June. What a great event! The range of activities, events and entertainment on the day were exceptional and the day was so enjoyed by the residents and their families and friends. The hard work both in the preparation

Thank you Bluebell for an amazing day yesterday. A very well organised event which everyone enjoyed. In particular I would like to thank the Activities Manager and the team for working with Mum over the past few months to give her the confidence to sing a solo song. A truly special moment. Singing

Mum has been at Bluebell House for three years this September, and in that time the care has always been extremely good. The staff show endless patience and care, even when mum is being uncooperative. There are plenty of opporttunities for her to participate in numerous activities, some of which mum
enjoys! Mum's dementia is advancing but she is obviously happy and settled, and I am always grateful for the care and support that everyone at Bluebell House gives to mum and to me.

Overall, we are pleased with the care & support given to my mother. The staff could not do more or be friendlier to family & friends. The new manager has been excellent, but we are saddened & concerned she is leaving already. In the year my mother has been here, there have been 3 deputy managers, 2
managers and other staff changes. The residents & their families need continuity & familiar faces. Also, the promised mini-bus shopping trips/excursions have never happened, which is a great shame.

Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at Cross Park House Care Home

Thank you for this feedback - it's great that you are pleased with the care and support that our team at Cross Park have given to your mum. Yes, it is a shame that she is leaving - she is moving to our St. Petrocs Care Home in Bodmin as it is closer to her home. Shas really enjoyed working at Cross Park and is taking an active role in helping us to recruit her replacement - we expect to be offering the position soon to another exceptional candidate. Team members do come and go - our goal (and we're pretty good at it) is to ensure that quality of care remains consistently high - no matter who is delivering it. Whilst we do have a full activities schedule at Cross Park - and an excellent activities co-ordinator - you are, of course, correct, we've not been able to put on any trips in the mini-bus for some time. We have struggled to find a driver for the bus. This is something that we are aware of and do wish to resolve. Kindest regards.

My mum has been here 12 months now, since a change in management, I've seen a big change. The home is cleaner, staff are happier, and less stressed.
The manager is always in the building now. Very welcoming and very approachable. All the staff work very hard.

Thank you for this really positive review of your experience with our Care Team and Care Home at Cross Park in Brixham. It's really nice to read that you've seen some recent improvements in the home - we have recently welcomed a new manager, along with some other changes in the team, and, I agree, there is a notable change in atmosphere in the home - I'm confident that care provision has always been to a really high standard but we do now have a happier and more settled care team - working far better as a team together. It's also helped that we have brought the managers office back into the heart of the home - we had tried an external more professional office room but the downside was that it took the manager outside the home more than we would have liked. It's lovely to read that we're back on track:) Kindest regards.

Very disappointed. My husband didn't like the hot food so only had a sandwich and yogurt twice a day plus some crisps and snacks. Consequently he has lost weight. The garden was lovely but what spoilt it were full ashtrays and flower pots full of cigarette buts. Some of the staff were helpful and nice
but when my daughter, son in law and grandchildren visited they immediately got scanned without any explanation. Obviously the children were confused at to what was happening. We thought this was very rude and unnecessary. I collected my husband the evening before I was due to as he had been very agitated and had been shouting, he felt like he was in a prison. When we left no one said goodbye and I felt we left under a cloud, quite uncomfortable. My husbands bedroom smelt of urine when we arrived and was worse on one of my visits. Overall very disappointed.

Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at The Lilacs Residential Home

Good morning MB. It is, of course, very disappointing to receive anything other than a glowing review. We are very sorry that you have felt the need to write it. I have spoken to the Care Home Manager and reviewed records etc. Whilst I only have 1000 characters here and am conscious of the need for discretion and dignity - I am able to reply as follows. Your husband was very happy at The Lilacs until the day he left. He ate well and regularly enjoyed the excellent hot food that we provide. We check all visitors temperature upon arrival as a high temperature is a clear indicator of illness - the UK has had a quad-demic of respiratory illness this year. It's difficult to address the smell of urine other than to say that the room did not smell of urine - but there may be times when there was a smell of urine present - and these are dealt with quickly. Our care team spent much time helping your husband and caring for him. Your review is a very unfair reflection of their dedication.

Dove Tree House

from R F (Daughter of Resident) published on 29 May 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Dad was referred to Dove Tree House by the NHS for rehabilitation following discharge from hospital. On leaving hospital he had compromised mobility and visual defects along side his Parkinson's disease and required regular physiotherapy to help him get back on his feet again.
All the staff were friendly,
compassionate and caring. They made necessary adjustments to be able to support Dad during his recovery period. As relatives, we always felt very welcome to visit and the staff soon recognised us. The home was always clean and tidy and had a happy atmosphere. Staff wear clear name badges so it is easy to identify them and their role within the home. Phone calls were answered in a friendly and efficient manner.
Dad enjoyed his period of care at Dove Tree House reporting that he enjoyed the food, he participated in many activities and enjoyed social time with the other residents .
We are grateful to Dove Tree House for providing such excellent supportive care for Dad this spring.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write and leave this comprehensive and uplifting review of your experience, and more importantly, your dad's experience, whilst living at Dove Tree House in Exeter. These reviews are such an important source of information for prospective residents and their family members who may be researching residential social care for the first time and in very stressful circumstances. Reviews such as yours will go a long way to put peoples minds at rest and appreciate how beneficial good residential care can be - not only to the resident themselves who will be the direct recipient of that care - but also to their family and friends who can rest assured that their loved one is being well cared for. It's really lovely to read that your dad enjoyed the food, the activities and the social time with other residents. Thank you for highlighting the vital role that our care teams play in such high quality care provision. Kindest regards
