110% world class all round. Highest recommendation, just amazing, all the staff are caring, lovely, go beyond the call of duty. I really can't praise them enough with the care they gave my mother from the moment she arrived to the moment she left. Very professional and a deep understanding of peoples

I am a resident at Cross Park House and will be for quite a bit longer. I have been here for nearly 12 months. I did have a chance of moving but I like the staff and get looked after very well. The rooms are a bit small but are warm & cosy. Friends who come to see me always get offered a cuppa tea or
coffee. They say how nice & friendly the staff & management are.
Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at Cross Park House Care HomeGood afternoon Pamela. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this review of your experience living at Cross Park. It's lovely to read that you are happy at Cross Park House and would not want to leave as you get looked after very well and like the staff. Yes, Cross Park is a converted domestic house so rooms are not built to modern size and shape but, as you say, they are more 'cosy' and homely as a result. It's lovely to read that your friends and family who visit are always well looked after and say how nice and friendly the staff and management are. I note the lower score for activities - whilst the team have been doing their best to compensate we have been without a dedicated activities coordinator for about 6 weeks now - we are actively recruiting and eager to see a full and engaging activities calendar re-established at Cross Park. Thank you again for your kind words, Nathan.

After looking at several homes in the area; the manager and her staff at Cross Park gave us the warmest, friendliest welcome, the atmosphere was like home from home. The environment was clean, lovely decor and facilities very good. The excellent staff so kind and caring, the food was good with the chef
checking daily on choice. My mother had two weeks respite care and as a family we felt confident leaving her with the wonderful team. We will certainly make further stays and highly recommend Cross Park to others.

Overall, we are pleased with the care & support given to my mother. The staff could not do more or be friendlier to family & friends. The new manager has been excellent, but we are saddened & concerned she is leaving already. In the year my mother has been here, there have been 3 deputy managers, 2
managers and other staff changes. The residents & their families need continuity & familiar faces. Also, the promised mini-bus shopping trips/excursions have never happened, which is a great shame.
Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at Cross Park House Care HomeThank you for this feedback - it's great that you are pleased with the care and support that our team at Cross Park have given to your mum. Yes, it is a shame that she is leaving - she is moving to our St. Petrocs Care Home in Bodmin as it is closer to her home. Shas really enjoyed working at Cross Park and is taking an active role in helping us to recruit her replacement - we expect to be offering the position soon to another exceptional candidate. Team members do come and go - our goal (and we're pretty good at it) is to ensure that quality of care remains consistently high - no matter who is delivering it. Whilst we do have a full activities schedule at Cross Park - and an excellent activities co-ordinator - you are, of course, correct, we've not been able to put on any trips in the mini-bus for some time. We have struggled to find a driver for the bus. This is something that we are aware of and do wish to resolve. Kindest regards.

My mum has been here 12 months now, since a change in management, I've seen a big change. The home is cleaner, staff are happier, and less stressed.
The manager is always in the building now. Very welcoming and very approachable. All the staff work very hard.
Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at Cross Park House Care HomeThank you for this really positive review of your experience with our Care Team and Care Home at Cross Park in Brixham. It's really nice to read that you've seen some recent improvements in the home - we have recently welcomed a new manager, along with some other changes in the team, and, I agree, there is a notable change in atmosphere in the home - I'm confident that care provision has always been to a really high standard but we do now have a happier and more settled care team - working far better as a team together. It's also helped that we have brought the managers office back into the heart of the home - we had tried an external more professional office room but the downside was that it took the manager outside the home more than we would have liked. It's lovely to read that we're back on track:) Kindest regards.

Cross Park House is spacious and beautifully decorated for different occasions. I appreciate the coffee the staff give me when I visit. It is not too formal. My 4 grandchildren arrived without warning just when Christmas lunch was being served. We all sat in my husband's room and helped him eat it which
he loved. Individual birthdays are remembered. The staff do a reliable and difficult job caring for people who are physically or mentally ill - who are not always polite. Very tiring. Care homes and their staff are not appreciated or helped by the government. They should be.

My father arrived at Crossparks on January 25th from the hospital. He was very difficult behaviour-wise towards the carers. I felt very upset and worried about the staff and my dad, he has a history of being difficult. However, the staff were so good with Dad and so caring and thoughtful towards me
and my husband. We can't praise them enough! Dad is now settled and happy.

My dad went into Cross Park for one month of respite care and has been welcomed to stay longer if he needs it. The home itself is lovely and the staff are really helpful to me and my brother. Caring is very good, nothing is too much trouble and they accommodate all our needs and requests. All of the
residents looked really happy and Dad settled in with ease. I'd recommend Cross Park and hope that should we continue to need them, Dad will stay!

When deciding on a care home for my nan in March 2022, I viewed some more modern homes. However, at Cross Park, it was clear that they encouraged residents into the common areas and to engage in a range of activities. The garden and dining room are lovely. As it is my nan prefers to remain in her room
and is very set in her ways but many of the staff engage with her from the cleaners to the laundry lady. She is always clean and tidy and the staff try to encourage her to drink more. I know she is well looked after and cared for which gives me peace of mind. Her room looks out onto the road where I live so it's an added bonus that she is so close. I am welcomed whenever I visit and the staff have been kind to me and my nan as we've been dealing with my dad's ill health and his subsequent passing. Thanks for taking good care of my nan.

Very happy with the service provided. Though staff are overworked and underpaid as are most homes in the UK.
Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at Cross Park House Care HomeHello Linda. Thank you for this feedback. It's lovely to know that you are happy with the service provided. I note your comments with regard to the care team being overworked and underpaid. This is a very broad statement. We do not believe that our care teams are overworked. We recruit to ensure that we employ enough people to enable our care team members to work their contracted hours - and they can request more if more are available. If there are gaps on the rota we have a number of contracts with agency staff providers who can provide fully qualified and vetted cover at short notice (or planned in advance) as needed. With regards the the issue of rates of pay. We certainly try to remain competitive in this regard, ensuring that we are amongst at least the top 25% of employers in our areas (Devon and Cornwall). To be able to pay more we would need to charge more for the care provided. It's a difficult balance to achieve. Kindest regards.

Mum had recently broken her wrist, just over a year ago, and was suffering a UTI on first becoming a resident, which complicated transition to the home. I feel the staff could have been just a little more alert to the needs of a new arrival, but I understand the difficulties.
Once the staff got to
know Mum, care has been absolutely first class. How they do it, I don't know. Mum is always clean and bright. Social Services commented on the quality of her skin to me, which says a lot. Mum interacts well with them even with her limited ability.
The manager and assistant are professional, competent and approachable; they clearly know each resident on a personal basis. Open meetings are held with residents and relatives to discuss events, happenings and any concerns. The home is well run and clean.
The décor of the property is dated, but not sufficient to detract from care.
Mum likes her food and it is very good. Mum was once the best cook in Devon, so that's high praise indeed!

General care and patience of the staff remains excellent, despite a turnover of staff. In three and a half years of Mum residing in Cross Park House Care Home, still never heard anything where the staff deal with residents that is not respectful/dignified.
I can appreciate that it is difficult for
residents' "group outings" in Torbay (cold weather or 'tourist' issues) but I know Mum (and a few others) would benefit from trips out, more time in the gardens - i.e. a break from 'routine'.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.313)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.313) out of 10 for Cross Park House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.563 for Cross Park House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (81 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.563
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cross Park House Care Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 23 registered maximum number of service users is 4.6, which has been reached with 10 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
