I just wanted to share my positive experience whilst visiting my lovely nan at Cross Park House Care Home. I accompanied my grandad and the first thing that struck me was how welcoming the staff were. The staff have built up a great rapport with my grandad whilst he visits my nan, this has been very
reassuring for him, as I can't imagine how difficult it must be for him to trust strangers to care for the love of his life. Nan seems really settled, calm and comfortable. The standard of personal care is high, from coordinating her outfits to styling her hair. The home itself is light and clean, sitting with Nan in the lounge felt like we were relaxing at home, not at all clinical. The carers came around with a tea trolley and a good selection of biscuits, we didn't feel like we were in the way at all. I am looking forward to visiting in the warmer weather so we can enjoy the garden together.
Reply from Sylvia Menighed, Registered Manager at Cross Park House Care HomeThank you so much for your lovely review about Cross Park House and the staff, I will be sure to pass on your lovely feedback. It is a pleasure to look after your nan.

Cross Park is a fabulous home, and the staff are amazing and so friendly; they look after my mum so well; she is so happy there. It is so hard when a family member goes into a home, but I have no worries when I leave because I know she is being looked after so well, well done, everyone and thank you
for my coffee.

My mother is a new resident at Cross Park, she has Dementia and this is the first time in 75 years she has lived apart from her husband. Due to my father's old age (91) and a serious heart condition, his most recent admittance to emergency care in the hospital was a wake-up call and realisation he could
no longer care for her at home. Historical memories and awful stories of 'Residential Care' filled my dad with dread. I took him to visit Cross Park as it was on our short list due to close proximity to his home and therefore regular visits. The manager had taken personal time out to ensure she showed my dad around while constantly reassuring him. The moment he was shown a pretty light and airy room I noticed a change in his demeanour and realised he liked what he saw. Gentle support for my dad has been as important as the specialist care, my mum, is now receiving. Dad has been able to share meals on his visits including Christmas Day. Cross Park staff thank you so much.
Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at Cross Park House Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to leave this really positive and detailed review of your experience with our care team and care home at Cross Park House in Brixham. Your story is a really heart-warming one and one that we come across all too often - that being that society's perception of residential care is so different from reality. I often talk to residents (and family members) who say 'if we knew it was like this we would have come in much sooner'. It's lovely to read how settled your mum is at Cross Park and how your dad is able to spend quality time with her. We have a fantastic team at Cross Park and I know they will all do as much as they can to ensure that your mum is happy and well cared for. Thank you again for this feedback, I know that the manager and her team will really appreciate it. Kindest regards.

Familiar first-name greetings from Cross Park House staff members always start off my visit to an elderly friend (resident here now for several years). During my visit, her general mien and positive responses during our meetings/chit-chat confirm the excellence of the care she receives. And supporting
this, I see the occasional toing and froing between staff members and other residents.
I always leave, knowing she couldn't have better care.

Although my mum did not have long at Cross Park House Care Home, she was extremely well looked after.
The staff are very caring and tried extremely hard to get my mum to eat and drink.
It was not easy to visit during Covid but the systems in place are good and I was confident all precautions were
being taken.
Daily activities are provided to allow the occupants to mix and socialise.

My father recently entered Cross Park House Care Home as his care needs had escalated dramatically during the Covid crisis. Within a very few days, the caring and friendly staff at Cross Park brought about a great improvement in his physical and mental well-being. Everyone is very kind and friendly
and my father has passed through this big life change very smoothly. He is very settled and has nothing but praise for the home and his carers. The family are very thankful for everything that they do for Dad.
Reply from Sylvia Menighed, Manager at Cross Park House Care HomeThank you for your kind words. I will pass this positive feedback to our staff and I assure you and the rest of the family that we aim to ensure your Father has a high standard of care and meet all his requirements physically and emotionally.

As always, the care my mum receives has been excellent throughout her stay and I am always kept informed of everything. My mum has a good rapport with all the staff and is very happy. I must say during this pandemic everyone has been kept safe and it was lovely when the "pod" was finished and visiting
could start again, knowing it was safe for all to do so and this worked wonders for my mum seeing her family again.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.313)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.313) out of 10 for Cross Park House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.563 for Cross Park House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (81 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.563
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cross Park House Care Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 23 registered maximum number of service users is 4.6, which has been reached with 10 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
