I am happy with the care that I receive here, the staff are very friendly we have a laugh everyday. I enjoy the activities that are on in the dining room, arts/crafts classes, singing with the guitar player and mixing with all the other residents. I feel at home here. I love my room it has a lovely view, the gardens are lovely to sit in and I enjoy seeing my family + friends

Overall Experience

After another 12 months of staff and management shortages, I'm very happy to say the home has finally settled into a happy, welcoming home. The new stand in manager (hoping Stone Haven recognise the difference she's made so that she stays permanently) has improved standards dramatically making it a home with lovely finishing touches. Day trips have started regularly and entertainers come frequently. The manager is very approachable and sorts things promptly. A new senior has joined who has brought the place to life. The whole atmosphere of the place now is different. The whole team now seems to be a lot happier and communicating with the residents but still working very hard under pressure with staff shortages. Bit of a negative when it's a regular thing having agency staff, even though they are lovely, as it's not good for residents regarding familiarity.
I would like to see a refurbishment on the toilets and outside space so it can be used more in the summer.

Please keep this up.

My 102 year old Mum has been at the Lilacs for several years. In that time she has been shown care and compassion at a high level. Her family have also been shown great kindness.

Mum has a pleasant ground floor room with a dual aspect of the garden. She is not able to benefit from the activities but I am really impressed at the variety of activities and entertainment put on for the residents. The garden is pleasant but could be even better with a little time and money spent on it. I also feel that cleanliness is a bit of an issue. Having said that it is very reassuring to know that Mum is being well cared for and I don't need to worry. Thank you to all the hard working carers.

My wife has vascular dementia and went from stage 5 to 6 in May 2024 when her attention span deteriorated and I could not leave her alone. I knew after six months I was unable to give her the necessary care and she entered Cross Park November 2024.

I visit for a couple of hours four times a week and talk to the carers about her condition, because the doctors at Compass will not speak to me for confidentiality reasons, even though we have been married nearly 45 years.
The carers have been wonderful and I'll include the agency staff, such as Ocean, who know Jean well and we do have some moments that you have to laugh or you would cry. Over the last 18 months I have got to know the staff and other residents well and chat to them.
She has since moved, last May from stage 6-7 and is mainly in her room. I like to give her evening meal and it allows the carers to feed someone else.

I would recommend Cross Park house to any family with someone suffering from dementia.

She can be difficult and doesn't want to mix or join in but the carers always ask her if she wants to, even knowing that she will decline. We live about 70 miles away and the home always updates us on mums progress and how she is. If ever she has a fall or needs anything medical, then the carers will contact us to let us know.

Since my auntie has been in The Lilacs she has settled in well and seems happy. I have found on visiting that the way the staff care is really quite touching and certainly have no complaints. I find The Lilacs to be a very friendly and welcoming home to everyone who visits and lives there. My mother has resided at The Lilacs for over two years now and she has done so well. To lose your partner of over 60 years is devastating but all the staff have helped her through her loss. Mum has had a few falls, the most recent one resulting in a lot of blood. The staff were amazing while mum was being taken care of by the paramedics.

The staff work extremely hard throughout the day and take great care of residents, sometimes under great pressure. They deal brilliantly and efficiently with all situations, even though it is obvious that they are short staffed.

The staff are a credit to the company but there is a need for more staff to ensure that the home continues to be of high quality.

I have to be honest I didn't want my mother to go into a home but I am now so grateful for The Lilacs as I know she is well looked after and very happy.

My Mum has Alzheimer's and as a family we were searching for a suitable care home that was appropriate for her condition. We found Cross Park early 2026. Since day 1 we have found the environment friendly welcoming and caring. We understand that Alzheimer's can cause difficulties for all concerned. In the time my Mum has been there we have been greatly impressed with the attitude and professionalism of all. Every visit we note how caring and understanding the staff are.

My mum has occasionally had visitors from the Midlands where she previously lived. Every visitor has noted that Mum appears calm and settled and have commented on the helpfulness of all the staff. Please keep up the good work Helen and congratulate the staff for a great review.

The care taken with him during his rapid decline with vascular dementia. The whole team were always very helpful with anything we asked for. The home has plenty of room with the lounge and the big conservatory which meant he could walk around and sit in any chair of lounge or conservatory he liked. They were never crowed. He enjoyed taking part in the actives that had been arranged. His room was where he could see the lounge and all the comings and goings along the corridor which he liked. He enjoyed his food mostly in his room preferring the sweets rather than the main course as he always had a sweet tooth. It meant a lot to us to know he was safe at Chollacott. Thank you

My 99 yr old mum has been in Chollacott House Drake Unit for nearly 2yrs now. She settled in very well from the beginning and has been looked after with great care and attention by all the staff. They are so kind and attentive and treat the residents with care and respect. Nothing is to much trouble despite the fact they have so much work to do each day. The entertainment available is very good and inclusive to all, should they want to be involved and encourages all residents to take part if they are able. The day room is light airy & well decorated especially at xmas & other special dates. Well done to all Staff + Management at chollacott House!
