Bluebell House Care Home

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I have been visiting a resident for almost a year. He is very happy here and exceptionally looked after. All the staff are warm and welcoming and very attentive, and management is fantastic and always ready to listen should a concern arise. We were very apprehensive about putting him in a home, but
I knew that he would be safe in Bluebells as I worked with Kathy a few years back, so I knew I could trust her management and her staff. Overall, Bluebells is beyond expectations due to Kathy. Thank you all at Bluebells.

Bluebell House Care Home

from E H (Daughter of Resident) published on 3 December 2025

Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5
I question the recent communal room changes as this has caused distress to my mother. Was it necessary for this change to be made? Who does it benefit? The new view is lovely so why are the chairs facing the opposite way? There appears to be sufficient seating for the residents but not visitors.
I don't think being offered a wheelchair to sit on is appropriate. Nor is it fair to expect residents to leave the lounge and go to their room when a visitor comes to see them. Where is the inclusivity, socialisation etc.?
On a positive note the care staff show that they have got to know the people they look after, including my mother, which I find very reassuring, plus they have got to know us as well. The laundry service and food is very good and the home is tidy.
Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at Bluebell House Care HomeGood afternoon EH. Thank you for taking the time to leave this review of your experience with our Care Team and Care Home at Bluebell House in Westward Ho! The Care Team have, at their choice, recently changed the way in which communal areas are used - this was done with prior discussion with residents and the care team. Feedback to date has been very positive. That being said, it is of concern that you feel that this has caused distress to your mum. Speaking to the Care Home Manager I am advised that your mum is now taking part in more communal activities, is interacting with more residents and is displaying no signs of distress or confusion. Noting what you say about visitor seating - we always see it as a positive when communal areas are busy with residents happy to leave their rooms and join in socially. Sometimes this will mean that there is limited seating space but we are fortunate to have a number of lounge areas that can be used. Kindest regards, Nathan.

Bluebell has a homely feeling about it. Feel that I can speak to the manager when needed. Activities offered for anyone wanting to join in. I am not sure re the new layout with Activities upstairs as no seating for visitors but I am sure this can be rectified. I do not think the food is as good as it
used to be, sometimes it looks like it's been prepared in a hurry and thrown on a plate.
Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at Bluebell House Care HomeGood morning AB. Thank you for this generally positive feedback relating to your experience with our Care Team and Care Home at Bluebell House in Westward Ho! It's great to read that you feel Bluebell House has a homely feel, that the manager is always available and that good activities are offered. The Care Team have, indeed, recently changed the layout of communal areas, and this has generally been really well received - do please talk to the manager about your concerns regarding visitor seating. I'm really sad to read about your experience with the food. I know our food provision across all of our homes is excellent. The problem appears to be related to how the food is being plated up / presented. This is a really important aspect of any meal and our teams have had training in this - it looks like we may need to retrain / monitor this a bit more at Bluebell House. Please do discuss any concerns with the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager. Kindest regards, Nathan.

I have been visiting my very elderly and frail mother in The Lilacs for 3 years now. The most important things to me are that she is cared for and safe. She is undoubtedly both of those things. I cannot speak highly enough about the staff. Patient, caring, hard-working and all with a much-needed sense
of humour. I have to travel a considerable distance to visit, and they look after their visitors, too. I always receive a very warm welcome.

The staff and manager were excellent and cared for my wife exactly as I would expect. Thank you.
Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at WoodhayesHello John P. Thank you for taking the time to leave this really positive review of your experience with our Nursing Team and Nursing Home at Woodhayes in Exeter. It's really lovely to read that our Manager and Nursing Team were excellent and that your wife was cared for as you would expect. I note the slightly lower scores for rooms, facilities and cleanliness. With regards to rooms and facilities, this may be owing to the fact that Woodhayes is a joining of three (rather grand) terrace houses in the St. Leanards area of Exeter. Whilst not a new build with a cinema room etc it is a lovely, homely and characterful building where we seek to, as far as is possible, create a home-from-home atmosphere. The score of 3 for cleaning - that's not good enough - my apologies for that - I will be discussing this with the Registered Manager. Again, thank you for this feedback, kindest regards, Nathan.

There is not much to say I find the home excellent I gave lower results on management because there isn't a manager in place at the moment. Only temporary at the moment. The food is a bit repetitive and there is much waste but overall the staff are friendly and caring. The staff are friendly and caring
and the cleanliness is fantastic. Keep up the great work.
Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at The Lilacs Residential HomeGood morning Bryan. Thank you for this kind and positive feedback relating to your experience with our Care Team and Care Home at The Lilacs in Exeter. Noting your comments about Management - The Lilacs is currently being ably supported by Emma, our Deputy Manager, along with regular on-site support from members of our Support office Team and other Managers within the group. We are currently actively recruiting a new manager and hope to be able to formally communicate a name and start date within a week or two. I'm surprised about your observation about the food on offer - I know the range is extensive and the quality excellent. If your wife would like to discuss food choices please, if she is able to do so, encourage her to speak to Emma. If she is not able then please could you discuss your concerns with Emma on your wife's behalf. I'm confident there will be a number of options that she will like. I'm concerned that there is a lot of waste - we will investigate this also. Nathan.

My Mum was referred to Bluebell House after recurrent hospital stays as her Alzheimer's Disease worsened, as It became increasingly difficult to manage her care needs at home by my 88 year old Dad, even with our support. Although It was upsetting for us to start with, accepting that her needs were too
challenging for my Dad to cope with, my Mum has settled in. She has a nice cozy room, and is taken care of by very caring members of staff. The food is hearty home cooked food..all the usual favourites! Fish and chips on a Friday! Always a pudding too. The staff make my Dad and I very welcome, we are always offered a hot drink or a cake too. We have made an effort to get to know everyone too. Mum always looks well presented, and has her nails done too! (Thank you!) I wanted to also mention Georgie who is in charge of activities, who is so kind and encouraging with my Mum, as are all the staff. They are very friendly and kind which is so important, and work very hard.
Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at Bluebell House Care HomeGood afternoon Samantha. It's lovely to read how you and your Dad are always made to feel so welcome when you visit (as you most certainly will be!) - thank you for highlighting the amazing work that Georgie does. We have a great care team at Bluebell House and are very proud of all that they do. Your review will give a very reassuring insight into 'life in a care home' to people who may be at an earlier stage in the journey, just starting to consider the option and experiencing the natural worries and concerns that come with such a significant life change. After looking at several homes in the area; the manager and her staff at Cross Park gave us the warmest, friendliest welcome, the atmosphere was like home from home. The environment was clean, lovely decor and facilities very good. The excellent staff so kind and caring, the food was good with the chef
checking daily on choice. My mother had two weeks respite care and as a family we felt confident leaving her with the wonderful team. We will certainly make further stays and highly recommend Cross Park to others.

Woodhayes

Dad lived at Woodhayes for almost two years before his death earlier this year, before an incident that necessitated nursing care. Dad has been independent so it was difficult for him to accept the change in circumstances from the beginning and throughout his stay. Dad was happy there he enjoyed the
company, activities, garden and food. The staff kept me informed of all changes in dads care and were always available by phone as I lived 80 miles away. This was much appreciated. I felt confident Dad received excellent care. I would highly recommend Woodhayes Care Home.
Reply from Nathan Stone, Director. at WoodhayesFirstly, please may I offer my condolences for the sad loss of your Dad earlier this year. It is really nice to read that your Dad was happy during his almost 2 years at Woodhayes and enjoyed the company, activities, garden and food. It's also lovely to read that you were kept informed by our care team and that you were confident that Dad received excellent care. Thank you for your recommendation of Woodhayes. We have an excellent team there, and they will be really happy to read your kind words. Kindest regards

Comfortable, caring home. Very kind, pleasant staff. They make us feel welcome and are attentive without being intrusive. Mum especially appreciates the outdoor space and is often there with her "regulars". We couldn't have wished for a better place for mum.
