It's lovely to read that you feel the home is now 'pretty darn good' and, importantly, that your Dad has a laugh and chat with the care team. Kathy has been Registered Manager for a few years now - working her way up from Deputy Manager - but you're right - we did go through a period where we saw a quick turnover of managers. Whilst it's always frustrating to go through such periods we are always determined that we provide the necessary support to the home at the time to ensure standards are maintained and we keep on searching until we get the right managers (and care teams) in place. My wife is not the person I married over 60 years ago, prior to the last 2 and a half years she was the most caring and nice individual. I am right in saying that her manner has not been the same since from almost day one when she was upset because of the loss of dignity through being washed, etc., and the hoist was never to her liking, and because of this she has been bedbound for most of her time at the home. The staff are an excellent bunch, and they have done their utmost to make her stay ok. All I can say is that dementia is a horrible mind-changing illness.

I am very pleased with how my mum has been helped to settle, as she's prone to agitation. The workers are always pleasant and treat Mother well and she seems very happy. Management are effective and pleasant and I have time to discuss any issues and resolve them.

Everyone has made him very welcome and made the transition into a new environment very easy. All relevant and essential assessments have been made and his care is timely and appropriate. My mother had a serious stroke in may 2024 and was told she wasn't able to return home due to our current property not being suitable so my mother had to go to a care home. I asked to view a couple of care homes and when I asked to view Primrose House I was very optimistic as I've always had a bad experience with other care homes but primrose have been absolutely brilliant. When I came to view Primrose I was welcomed by the Manager she made me feel very welcome she showed me round the home, she showed me my mum's room she introduced me to all staff on shift I even got to see what sort of foods they serve in the care home and what the atmosphere is like during lunch time and I honestly couldn't be happier. She made me feel at ease with placing mum here and I don't regret my decision, she is amazing she adores all residents and really does have the home at heart. Nothing is never to much trouble the care staff are all amazing. Can't fault anyone. Thank you for everything you have done.

Our father is given everything you would hope for in a caring environment, the food is excellent and he thoroughly enjoys his meals, he is living in a bright clean home with a warm friendly atmosphere, and everyone is so welcoming. Placing a loved one in a care home comes with many mixed emotions but having seen how well he has settled and the level of care he is being delivered makes the experience so much easier. Since my mum became a resident at Primrose House she has settled in really well. The staff are really friendly, they always have time to talk to her and also to let me know how she’s been. She’s enjoyed joining in with the activities, especially singing and has even felt comfortable enough to go on...
The only negative thing I can say is that sometimes they are a little short staffed, usually this is with staff not turning up for work but everyone pulls together to make sure the residents are happy.

Good afternoon. Thank you for taking the time to write and publish this really lovely and kind 5/5 star review of your experience with our Care Team and Care Home at Primrose House in Westward Ho! North Devon. It's really lovely to read how well your mum has settled in, how friendly the care team are, how much your mum enjoys joining in with activities, and how lovely her room is. I note the comment with regards to staffing. We have several contracts in place with care agencies whom we can call to arrange cover, that being said, they can't always cover at short notice. We ask that our care team members call in and give us as much notice as possible before the start of their shift if they are not going to be able to work their shift (and we take action where people do not do this). It's really important to us (and everybody) that all of our shifts are run with the correct amount of carers on duty. Thank you again for this really kind feedback. Nathan.

We note what you say about agency staff - we have experienced some challenges with recruitment in North Devon but are making really good progress on that front - we do have agency contracts in place as back up and, as you note, we try to always use the same agency team members where possible. We are really fortunate with the team we have at Primrose House, not least in that they all embrace the importance of activities, both bespoke and communal (in fact, it's clear they all really enjoy them themselves). On the specific occasion, it was a celebration of her 100th birthday and I represented an old long long-standing friend of the residence. They had known each other very well for over 60 years and worked together in education. The staff and management went to great lengths to make the afternoon celebration pleasurable and memorable.
