Mum is receiving excellent care at Gittisham Hill House. The staff popping in when walking by her room just to say hi. She has her hair done once a fortnight which cheers her up. She loves her weekly baths. The food always looks good and varied, she tells us how wonderful it is.

My mum has been with you now for about 4 months and throughout has been treated really well. She is blind and deaf but still has her marbles. Unfortunately not able to walk. I visit at least twice a week and find her relaxed & contented each time the staff are wonderful & so caring. Many go above &
beyond. The food is marvellous & mum says she hasn't had a bad meal. She regrets not being able to eat more. Her medical needs are addressed really well. For her 100th birthday we had a lovely party in great surroundings. What more could we ask. I am so happy she was placed with you, I have peace of mind, I think she feels at home.

My mum was a resident at Gittisham for 22 months. The care, kindness & respectfulness of all the staff was exceptional. They all became her extended family and nothing was too much trouble. I was always made to feel very welcome & included in all decisions regarding her care. My heartfelt thanks go
to everyone.

My relative strongly resisted moving into the care home and having to stay there. There was no other option as it was in her best interest and for her safety. Many of the carers 'won her over' and she soon realised she was in a safe place. She was always treated with care & dignity & despite some negative
outbursts on my aunt's behalf, it never affected her treatment. Thank you.

The care and kindness shown to my stepfather in his last few weeks was fantastic. He was safe, secure, well looked after and took pleasure is many things. The 24 hour access policy and communication with staff was very good and we felt happy knowing how good the staff were. We were always welcomed into
the home and felt very at ease.

My mum was admitted after a fall, to rest and recover for 6 weeks. From my first contact with Gittisham Hill House Care Home, they could not be more welcoming, helpful and kind. The care staff are wonderful and treat Mum with such care and gentleness. I would recommend anyone with care needs to stay
here!

I just wanted to leave a note to say that I am so pleased my mum is staying at Gittisham. I do not have extensive experience with care homes, though based on what experience I have this is a great one. My mum is more settled than she was previously, I can see the staff take care in ensuring no one is
isolated, there is always something going on and there are always plenty of staff available. I never have an issue visiting my mum and it's such a relief knowing she is well cared for.

Dad is very content at Gittisham. He loves the staff, and they love him. They are all, without exception, kind and caring, encouraging and supportive. There is a wide range of activities available, to which he is encouraged. Having recently purchased a minibus, trips out are also available. Alternatively,
quiet time is available if desired, with one-to-one chats with members of staff.
The food is wonderful, with a choice, and plenty of it. Dad's room is very comfortable with lots of his own belongings and pictures on the wall. The resident's garden is being re-landscaped, which is where he loves to sit in warm weather. The residents are also encouraged to choose and look after plants.

My mum was a resident at Gittisham Hill House Care Home for nearly 12 months.
During that time Mum was treated with dignity and was very well looked after by the kind and caring staff. Whenever we visited Mum she appeared settled and content which was a huge comfort to my brother and me.
We shall
always be grateful to the manager and staff for making Mum's last 12 months the very best that they could be. We will also never forget the kindness and compassion shown to us upon Mum's passing. It made a difficult time a little easier to bear.

Wonderful care of my mum as she died. Highly professional, very caring and gave huge comfort to my mum and us as a family. Lovely personable manner when attending to Mum's hygiene/moving her, was always clear and direct in any communication and always spoke directly to Mum on entering her room, which
I really appreciated. Just a wonderful place - a massive thank you.

My mother has been a resident at Gittisham Hill House for more than six years. I cannot truly express in words how wonderful her care has been in all that time. The manager and staff have all gone above and beyond to ensure my mother who has dementia has been safe, so happy and cared for. My wife and
I live in South Africa so it is more important than ever that we have peace of mind knowing she is so well cared for. I have no brothers or sisters so her well-being is my responsibility and I could not have asked for more from the wonderful home. My mother is now 100 years old and nearing the end of her life but I know she is comfortable and still being cared for.
Now and throughout the last six years, the management and staff have always kept us informed of my mother's condition and any problems that have arisen.
For this, I say a very very big thank you.
If anyone is looking for a wonderful caring home in the Honiton area you need to look no further.

My husband has been a resident of Gittisham Hill House for a year now. The house has a home's decor and atmosphere, though feels rather shug for the amount t of residents. The staff are friendly and caring, and the care my husband's receiving is exceptional. Residents have good entertainment, activities,
quiz, crafts, etc. However, some physical activities and time outdoors for fresh air would be beneficial as well. The management and care have improved dramatically since the new manager and the new team has come in mid-year. I must thank the manager and the staff for the support I personally get as well. I am included in my husband's care, and visits are accommodated well in current difficult circumstances. Yes, I would recommend Gittisham Hill House.

The care my mother received has been exceptional. The staff were so respectful to her in life and in death, it was a truly great comfort to me knowing how well she was looked after - especially during Covid times when visiting was limited. It was clear that they loved her and vice versa. My mother had
anxiety and they supported her so well with this. During the end of life, the care was amazing, so supportive to my mum but also to my sister and I. I would highly recommend this home.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.538)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.538) out of 10 for Gittisham Hill House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.638 for Gittisham Hill House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (68 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.638
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Gittisham Hill House Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
