The Parkland House team work so hard to provide the highest possible standard of care and they are thrilled to be recognised for their work by the CQC, and to be rated ‘outstanding’ in four areas: – caring, responsive, effective and well-led (June 2019).

Parkland House is located close to the city centre on the western outskirts of Exeter. Parkland supports 52 individuals, many of whom live with dementia. The home boasts beautiful lounges with a terrace overlooking the landscaped garden. The gardens feature easy access paths, a greenhouse, raised beds and sensory features throughout.

The staff at the home assist residents with a variety of different activities including massage, gardening, knitting and trips out into the local community to the seaside and local garden centre. The home (outside of the pandemic) also receives regular visits from entertainers, the local donkey sanctuary, and local church groups.

The home has also been accredited by 'the Eden alternative' - a philosophy that ensures that those living in a home do not face loneliness, boredom or sense of helplessness.

We can't thank the team at Parklands enough for the care they gave to our Mum.
We were always made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Unfortunately our Mum has now passed away but during her last few days and weeks, we felt the love and support they gave us and it made the whole

It's with a grateful heart that I write this review for Parkland House, where my mum recently stayed. Finding the right care home is never easy, but from the moment we stepped through the doors, we were at ease.
The staff at Parkland House are truly exceptional. They treated my mum with such kindness,
respect, and genuine warmth.
The environment at Parkland House is bright, clean, and welcoming. The rooms are comfortable and well-maintained, and the communal areas are lovely.
What truly stood out was the personalised care my mum received. The staff took the time to understand her individual needs and preferences, and they were always responsive to any concerns we had. They communicated with us regularly, keeping us informed and involved in her care.
Knowing my mum was in such capable and compassionate hands gave me immense peace of mind. Parkland House provided a safe and supportive environment where she could thrive. I can't thank the team enough for the wonderful care they provided.

My brother and I had to find a home for our stepfather during Covid and we knew Parklands through some colleagues who only had good things to say. The team, management and care workers have been very supportive during the 3 years of our stepfathers stay but unfortunately we have now had to move him
to a nursing facility to match his developing needs. During this time we have always been made to feel welcome and felt that our stepfathers needs were well looked after and was treated well and with dignity whilst adjusting the care given as necessary in a great and timely way. We would recommend Parklands highly to anyone looking for dementia residential care and take this opportunity to thank the team for the great work.

Until the beginning of March, when she sadly passed away, our mum was a resident at Parkland House. She was only there for a short period of time, but from the first day to the last she was wonderfully looked after. My sisters and I first met the Parkland House manager in the hospital when she came
to assess Mum to see if she would be able to stay at the care home. From that moment onwards we were confident that Mum would be well looked after; it was like a weight had been lifted from our shoulders. The manager was so caring and gentle with Mum that day and every day afterwards. All of the staff at Parkland House are amazing. They made Mum feel safe and special and that nothing was too much to ask for whatever the time of day or night. They treated Mum with compassion and respect as well as love. They phoned with updates about Mum's health, as well as chatting with us during our frequent visits. I can only thank all of the staff for everything they did for Mum, as well as to us as a family.

We are always greeted by the staff with a warm welcome, all of whom have a willingness to help at any moment needed. The staff really look after and care for the residents and treat them with compassion and great respect. The activities are always thoughtful and different.

My nan came here after being unable to cope after returning home from hospital having had 2 strokes, the room she was given was lovely overlooking a small piece of garden, the staff are amazing so kind and caring, nothing is too much trouble, staff are always readily available to help a resident or
just to simply sit and chat. They were very thoughtful in pairing my nan with another resident who they thought she would get on with and they have built a wonderful friendship, couldn’t ask for a nicer bunch of people to be looking out for my nan, nothing is too much trouble.

Generally the care that Mum receives and the care home itself, I have rated Good/Excellent. The carers do a wonderful job in caring for Mum with great empathy and compassion. I have however scored down the management on this occasion, as I sent an email on the 1st March querying the recent proposed
uplift to the charges, which I've still not received a reply by the 18th, when the fees are due for payment on the 26th of the month.

Mum was only a resident for a short time - December - February - as we sadly lost her on 1st March 2024. From the moment we met the manager of Parklands (in the hospital, on a particularly traumatic day for Mum who hated hospitals), we knew that Parklands would be the perfect fit. The staff are truly
exceptional - she loved them all and they loved her too. The care, empathy and friendship she received made us all so happy. Mum was calm, content and support by them all. My family and I cannot thank them all enough. You made her final days the best they could be. Thank you.

From the start Parkland made the transition to the home very easy for my mum and for us. From the manager down through all the staff, we have received great kindness, cheerfulness and great care. Staff exhibit infinite patience and compassion.
Two senior members of staff went out of their way to help
me when my mum had a bit of a crisis. They talked to her gently and kindly. They approached her concerns head-on but in a gentle way and with great skill. I felt reassured she was in good hands. The atmosphere is always welcoming and relaxed even when staff are hard-pressed. Staff seem a very cohesive, well-led unit. Thanks.

The first time I met the manager and looked around Parkland House, I knew I had found the right place for my dad. The manager was so friendly and kind and observing her talking to staff and residents as we went around, gave me confidence that Dad would be well cared for. It's a difficult decision putting
a parent in a care home, ie handing over their care to strangers and as Dad had already been in a home where he was extremely unhappy and hadn't been well cared for, it was important to get this move right. Dad was so much happier at Parkland House and the staff were absolutely fabulous with him! Although he had dementia and things got confused, he still had his sense of humour and loved to have banter with the staff. I will always be grateful for the wonderful care Dad had at Parkland House and that care was led by a terrific manager and was seen in every member of staff that I met.

Mum has been in Parkland House now for just over a year after experiencing many difficulties living at home. In that year her general health and wellbeing has improved dramatically.
The care she receives at the home is wonderful and it is a great relief to me knowing Mum is so well cared for.

Dad was well looked after. His needs were met and his like of music appreciated. He always enjoyed his meals, his room was always clean, tidy and well cared for. The staff knew Dad and chatted to him when he walked around. They were always friendly and supportive when visiting.

Parkland looked after and cared for my wife, who had dementia, in a wonderful and caring way for six years.
Right up to the time when she passed away, their attention to her every need was fantastic.

My father had been at Parkland House for just over a year when he passed away very recently. He was always treated with dignity and care and the staff were calm and friendly. It was a huge relief to us as his family that Dad was being looked after so well. Even with certain Covid restrictions in place
for most of his stay, when we were allowed to visit we were always welcomed by warm and friendly staff. During his last days, they couldn't have done more for him and looked out for us too, in our fragile state. His room was always clean and tidy, he loved the food and enjoyed having people around to talk to. I'm going to miss visiting Parkland House. Choosing to put a parent into a care home is a very difficult and emotional decision. We could not look after Dad at home and we were very worried about making the move to residential care but Parkland House has been amazing and I would highly recommend this care home.

My uncle has settled in really well. I was worried after living on his own for so many years since his father died that he would struggle. The staff are very friendly and caring, they all know my uncle and think a lot of him. I’m pleased he is usually in the lounge when I come in and not on his own
in his room. His eyesight is very poor and I don’t think he realises the other residents have problems and doesn’t understand why they come into his room or want to touch him. It is sad he has had to go into a home, but overall I am very happy he is at Parkland and being looked after so well.

I am proud of what I have achieved in the last 32 years, starting from the beginning as a care assistant to becoming a registered manager. This journey has been filled with numerous challenges, learning opportunities, and the profound joy of making a difference in the lives of individuals with learning disabilities and individuals in elderly care.


One of the most rewarding aspects of my role as a registered manager is the opportunity to mentor and support other care assistants.
