The Parkland House team work so hard to provide the highest possible standard of care and they are thrilled to be recognised for their work by the CQC, and to be rated ‘outstanding’ in four areas: – caring, responsive, effective and well-led (June 2019).

Parkland House is located close to the city centre on the western outskirts of Exeter. Parkland supports 52 individuals, many of whom live with dementia. The home boasts beautiful lounges with a terrace overlooking the landscaped garden. The gardens feature easy access paths, a greenhouse, raised beds and sensory features throughout.

The staff at the home assist residents with a variety of different activities including massage, gardening, knitting and trips out into the local community to the seaside and local garden centre. The home (outside of the pandemic) also receives regular visits from entertainers, the local donkey sanctuary, and local church groups.

The home has also been accredited by 'the Eden alternative' - a philosophy that ensures that those living in a home do not face loneliness, boredom or sense of helplessness.

It was the hardest decision of my life to put my mother into care. However, choosing Parkland House turned out to be my best decision. The warmth, kindness and care shown to residents and visitors alike, from our very first visit, was second to none. The efforts made to include everyone in activities
and special occasions was brilliant. I have lovely memories of Mum singing along on music day and shaking her maracas! As Mum slowly declined, and eventually slept peacefully away, I could never fault their attention to detail.

Parkland House carers were always friendly. Was impressed that the carers knew immediately who I was by name and who I had come to visit. Mum was safe and well cared for which put my mind so much at rest and I could visit Mum as her daughter and not her carer (which I had been for years before she came
to live at Parklands). The home always smelt nice on entering, was welcome and warm. I would recommend Parkland Home to anyone who has to make the difficult decision to place their relative in a care home.

Mum became unable to look after herself just before Christmas and we were so grateful that Parkland House was able to find a place for her at very short notice. She had previously been a resident at Parkland House but with excellent care had recovered enough to be able to go home for 12 months. The
kind and caring staff made her so welcome and she has settled very well. Although this has been a difficult time for our mum and the family we have every confidence in the staff and manager at Parkland House and it's great relief to us to know that she is being so well looked after.

It was an awful day in November 2017 when my dad had to go into a home with his dementia. The help we got from Parkland House made us both feel as if people did care! The management and staff could not do enough to help us through a difficult time. His room was perfect and had access to a wonderful
garden. We can't thank everyone enough as this has allowed us to bring dad home for a period of quality time with his family before it's too late.

A very well appointed care home with excellent facilities and a great weekly calendar of events that all residents can enjoy. It also serves meals and snacks of a high standard that appeal to even the hardest to please! Perhaps most importantly though the team were so very welcoming to dad. Friendly
and caring in their approach at all times and I felt very confident in entrusting him to their very safe hands.
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Parkland House to others as the quality of care that I observed was always of the highest quality.

My wife moved into Parklands in October 2015 with Alzheimer's which continues to get worse.
The staff continue to adjust their care to suit her current situation.
It has a calm and content atmosphere and the maximum is done to make the house feel like 'home'.

Our mother was a resident at Parkland for eight years. We have never been able to fault the care, love and consideration they showed her, especially in the last week of her life. She passed away peacefully in their care.
Excellent food, hygiene and general ambience. Kind friendly staff always.
We
were so happy with our choice for her.
Beautiful gardens and lovely light airy rooms and communal facilities.

The staff and carers treated my mother with great tenderness and warmth. For them, it is more than a job, it is a real concern for the well-being of the residents. Recent improvements to the common areas and gardens have created a very nice space for the residents and really without going over the top.
The care at Parklands House is as good as it gets and all the staff are to be commended.

The home was in my view excellent in every way. My mother was treated with dignity at all times by caring and committed staff. Her room was always clean and fresh as was mum herself. The activities were plentiful and greatly enjoyed by all the residents. I could not have asked for more from them - every
query or concern was dealt with on contact. A big thanks to all at 'Parkland House' Exeter, that gave my mother a last few happy years. 'It's just like home here' - So what more can be said to that?

Embarking on a career in the care sector has been one of the most rewarding and transformative experiences of my life. I am proud of what I have achieved in the last 32 years, starting from the beginning as a care assistant to becoming a registered manager. This journey has been filled with numerous challenges, learning opportunities, and the profound joy of making a difference in the lives of individuals with learning disabilities and individuals in elderly care.


One of the most rewarding aspects of my role as a registered manager is the opportunity to mentor and support other care assistants. I strive to create a culture of continuous learning and professional development, encouraging my team to pursue their own career aspirations within the care sector. Witnessing their growth and success brings me immense pride and satisfaction.
To those considering a career in the care sector, I offer this advice: approach your work with compassion, dedication, and an open heart. The rewards of making a positive impact on the lives of others are immeasurable. Be willing to learn, adapt, and collaborate with others. Your journey in the care sector can be as fulfilling and transformative as mine has been.


When not at work, I enjoy spending quality time with my family, enjoying days out and watching my 2 beautiful grandchildren, who are 2 and 4 years of age grow and develop.
