Our experience of Thornfield has been very good indeed: it is efficiently managed and administered, and staff ratio are good. Above all, the staff are very caring and interact cheerfully with residents, and with. Activities are provided, and residents stimulated. The home is clean and colourful. We are happy that my wife is comfortable and well looked after. Visitors are made very welcome.

My brother and I have always found our aunt, Diana, to be happy and settled at Thornfield. Today, she seemed well cared for and the staff were lovely with her and with us during our visit. We are very grateful for the excellent home she is in and the dedication and patience of the staff. Long may this continue. We will be back to see her soon.

Dad has lived at Thornfield for two years now. He is well cared for and we feel when we raise concerns they are dealt with quickly. Dad seems happy. We would like more updates on how he is. We take our mother to see him as often a possible. She is very frail and finds it exhausting. He is often sleeping when we arrive. We are working with the current manager to try and arrange for dad to be awake when we visit. We are very happy with dad's care and believe he is happy and contented.

Thank you for your feedback! We are concentrating on embedding new systems to promote further communication with families around their loved ones care and health. Please don't ever hesitate to call during the interim, if you'd like to have an update on how your Dad is doing. Thank you again!

Thornfield has a staff of excellent carers who have had a challenging year since the change of management and additional tasks. They have ensured residents are the focus of their care and attention, even when staff issues have occured: they deserve praise. I hope the arrival of a permanent manager and full time assistance will ensure a stable future. Thornfield has a wonderful 'front of house' 'welcomer', who deer very much more than 'reception'. My family really appreciates Thornfield's 'open door' policy and hope it continues.

Reply from Tabitha Donovan, Manager at Thornfield Care Home

Thank you, your comments are really valued and have been shared with the team. We will always have an open door policy at Thornfield. It is the families home as much as it is our residents, and is a safe space for all.

Review from Lynne S (Sister of Resident) published on 19 September 2025 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

I went to Thornfield to visit my sister as it was her birthday. I was invited to stay for lunch (which was delicious!), and staff organised a separate table where I could sit with my sister + her carer which was very thoughtful. Later, the staff came out with a large birthday cake + got everyone clapping + singing happy birthday, such a kind gesture. All the staff were gentle, kind and smiling, keeping an eye out for anyone who might need a helping hand, I was v impressed.

From my first enquiry to settling my mum into Thornfields, the staff have been amazing. Helping me identify a suitable room, decorating in colours that are soothing and rearranging furniture to suit. I cannot put into words what Thornfields mean to my family and myself.

I have found all staff very helpful; the food looks and smells lovely, and the rooms are a bit spartan and could be done with a little colour. We can always get my husband a drink if he wants one - and they always talk to him, even office staff make a point to talk to him, he has been in Thornfield for 5 years in April and is not the easiest person. But they have managed to get him out of his room, as he was always in it even at meal times. I'm very happy as he seems to be as happy as he can be.

My husband requires 24 hour care after having a stroke. When he arrived the staff and management helped us both to adjust to the new situation. They have ensured that he has received all the correct medication and mobility aids available to him. The care staff are always polite and respectful. The food is generous, tasty and presented well. Thank you Thornfield for making a very difficult situation manageable.

I am pleased with the care mum gets and all the staff are so kind to her. Not so pleased with laundry. Jumpers cardigans ruined as put into hot water or dryer, knickers and tights never returned to room.

My dad has had two recent spells at Thornfield following hospital stays. The staff and management are excellent and we were very pleased with Dad's care. They make great effort with activities for residents and have regular entertainment too. The food seemed very good. Also, they are keen to help with future care advice when dad gets home which is most appreciated. Many thanks to all.

Overall Experience
My husband has dementia and he was going to stay for 2 weeks respite. The first day he got out by walking out the front door, but they got him back, the third day eventually phone answered 8pm, asked to talk with him and was told call back they were out looking for him, luckily GPS on his phone so I could give directions. I informed direction he was going, to pack his stuff I was on my way to collect him.

I arrived and they had him back, he had been gone, lost and scared for approximately an hour, dressed in the day before clothing and pyjamas on top. The first words he said to me were “am I in trouble”. I was so distraught at the condition of him and how ill he looked, he was meant to be on 10-minute observation but they did not miss him. He walked through the front door which was faulty, saw the gates were locked went back to reception got a chair and climbed over promptly falling and damaging his ribs. The CQC report is garbage. Staff changed again. Do not use this home if you love the person.

Reply from Amy Bennett, Compliance Officer at Thornfield Care Home

The company takes all legitimate feedback and any justified concerns raised seriously. At the time of the event, a thorough investigation was carried out, working closely with our regulatory bodies as part of our registration requirements. During this process, all information was provided to CQC,...

Mum entered Thornfield following an extended hospital stay. Her health quickly deteriorated from pre-existing complex health issues making her bedridden and leading to the necessity of end-of-life care. Her room was quickly adapted to suit her personal needs and enable her to look out the window and the staff spent as much time as possible with her. She ended her life there with outstanding care, comfort and dignity. Every caller and visitor was treated with the greatest courtesy and kindness making this difficult time as easy as possible. We cannot compliment all of the staff enough, from support, through care to senior management. Mum left Thornfield with the individual goodbye of all staff there and her family will always remember the warmth she and they experienced.
