So glad Mum is in Thornfield - it is a lovely place with lots of activities and very professional and helpful staff. I would recommend it to anyone with a family member with Dementia. They have kept us informed and updated all through a difficult time with covid.

Overall, the care is reassuringly good and the staff are very kind. My concern is that for two years we have been asking for someone to find our relative's glasses and hearing aids. We keep asking and never really get a definitive answer. She went in with them and can hardly have lost them outside the
home as it's been in lockdown. Feedback has been poor.
Reply from Samantha Relff-Arnold, Registered Manager at Thornfield Care HomeThank you for taking the time to bring your experience to our attention. As a company, we would like to assure you we take all feedback seriously. We strive to provide an outstanding quality of care and improve our service user's experience wherever possible. I'm sorry to hear that you have not had the feedback Thornfield prides itself on. As the manager, I would encourage you to speak again with my senior staff who are always happy to support loved ones with any concerns you may have. I do understand that not getting the answers you need can be very frustrating. Alternatively, you are welcome to come to the office and speak with the management team. I would like to resolve this issue quickly for you so please don't hesitate in contacting the team. Sam Kelf - thornfield@cannoncarehomes.co.uk - Registered Manager.

Thornfield Care Home is an absolutely fantastic home for people living with dementia.
I struggled for two years to find somewhere that could meet my mum’s needs. She has complex dementia and anxiety and very much needed one to one attention. We tried two care homes as well as care at home but my mum
could not settle anywhere. We were just told that we had to accept that’s how my mum would always be.
We also visited numerous homes before having Thornfield recommended to us.
The warmth and compassion from all the carers and the ratio of staff to residents really sets Thornfield apart from any other care home I have seen. They have got everything right and it shows in the contentment of the residents and happiness of the staff.
The home is also incredibly well run. I could not recommend Thornfield highly enough!

My father has now been a resident at Thornfield for seven months. We are very pleased with the care he is receiving. All the staff are very welcoming and friendly whilst remaining professional. They are happy to answer any questions that we have and always phone to let us know any updates on Dad's care
and wellbeing. Thornfield is always kept clean and tidy despite the best efforts of some of the residents! There are lots of activities for residents to take part in. The staff always go the extra mile for special occasions. We are looking forward to seeing the jubilee celebrations.

Overall quite positive, but find there is sometimes a miscommunication between staff members, with some knowing things that have happened/are happening and others not knowing anything and having to ask around. The home seems to be clean and tidy, and staff are happy to help and sort out any issues that
arise.

My mother has Altzheimers and has begun to "wander" as well as forget where she is and has forgotten most of her relatives. I find her a challenge! But the staff are amazingly patient, give her hugs and affection, tease and cajole her into doing what needs to be done. Some things are difficult - things
go missing from time to time, as other residents may forget what is "theirs", that kind of thing, - but this is part and parcel of a Care Home specialising in dementia. A phone call with staff, or a chat about a worry, always results in resolving matters, nothing is too much or too little trouble for the staff. Activities are creative, outings are frequent, for those who can manage the minibus, staff are kind and gentle with all residents. As always in these situations - by definition, emotionally stressful for relatives - good communication with staff is essential (and a two-way process) and I have found this to be excellent.

There are some really caring staff members here but they are let down by poor management and an overly zealous accounts team. My father was placed there by the hospital. The personal carers were considerate but I often had to ask for drinks to be provided in the room and push to get a GP in to see him.
I felt I had to take the initiative in getting the additional pain relief and suitable food for him rather than there being any proactive plan. On one occasion he was found naked by a scheduled visitor and in a state of distress - we are still not sure how this could have been allowed to happen.
When he passed away the accounts team insisted on invoking a clause to claim an extra week's cost which seems callous and penny-pinching at a very sensitive time.

My husband stayed for 10 days for respite. He has dementia and I worried he might not be happy out of his routine, but he thoroughly enjoyed his stay and wants to go back again. The staff were excellent and entertained him, he enjoyed his food and his trips out in the minibus. I would definitely recommend
this Care Home.

My wife has dementia and cannot stand, so has to be hoisted. She has been in this home for 5-years 4-months, and the care has been excellent. She has not liked being there - she wants to come home. However, by how she regards it as home, as she no longer remembers.

When building completed the facilities will be excellent. The staff team cared deeply for Mum as a resident, and Dad who visited 7 days a week being given all his meals and cared for as well as Mum. All the family visiting were welcomed into the home on a daily basis. Due to building works for an extension
the one communal area downstairs was a little noisy, but staff were coping admirably and all residents were given care

Being married for 68 years my husband is 90 years old and me 88 years I was very upset not to be able to look after him myself any longer, but once I met all the staff at Thornfield Care Home and getting to know how caring and kind they all are I soon realised I had done the right thing. Nothing was
too much trouble for them, the whole place is so welcoming and I am very lucky I only live a few miles away so I can visit every day if I want to. They make me very welcome.
There is a lot of work going on outside to expand the building and I feel sure this will improve even more. My husband is blind and also suffers from vascular dementia.

Mum and Dad were admitted to Thornfield Care Home for respite following several hospital admissions. I cannot begin to express how amazing the staff have been during their time there. I feel that they could not have been better placed and I love the fact I am updated with anything I need to be. Unfortunately,
my father had a stroke during this period and the staff went above and beyond to help us all through this very difficult period. A credit to the Cannon Group could not be happier that my parents were so well supported.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.395)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.395) out of 10 for Thornfield Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.495 for Thornfield Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (137 Excellents x 5) + (40 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 194 Ratings = 4.495
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Thornfield Care Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
