While my husband has been in this home we have been delighted at his treatment. All the staff have been very friendly and caring. He has a lovely bedroom, he is looking forward to all his food and we hear he is eating everything he is given. Everywhere is scrupulously clean.

My father settled very quickly into the home due to the helpfulness and kindness of the staff. He particularly enjoys his food and so is looking forward to every meal especially the 5 star dessert! There are many activities going on throughout the day and staff passing him giving him a few minutes time
to have some conversation. The visual stimuli are fantastic- a view into the past and something for relatives to talk about with the resident. The care is just fantastic they truly are caring "angels!"

My husband goes to Thornfield 2 days a week and stays 2 nights a month when they have a room. He is very happy there which makes it much easier for me to relax in my respite time. Everyone is very kind and attentive and makes my husband very welcome.

After having been told all my life by my Mother that she would come back and haunt me if I ever put her into a home, the time came when I no longer had a choice. After researching and visiting over 12 care homes in our area I was at the end of my tether and nearing a nervous breakdown. I really thought
I was never going to find a care home suitable for my Mother. I almost gave up until I happened upon a list where the name Thornfield in Seaton popped up. Seaton is a place we love and the town where my dogs veterinary surgery is. Jonah (that's my dog) was due his annual jab, I had nothing to lose, so care home number 13 (unlucky for some) but Soooo lucky for my mother and myself was my next care home to see. I promptly made an appointment and arrived the very next day to be greeted by the sounds of Elvis Presley and the most wonderful lady who instantly made myself and my husband feel at ease. We were only 2 minutes in to our visit and I new this was the Perfect Place and new home for my Mother.
Consequently she has been in Thornfield for 8 months and is as happy as a clam.
I cannot put into words how wonderful the Staff are, in all aspects from the cleaners to the cooks from the care staff to the management are tremendous. The residents, the whole atmosphere in Thornfield is truly magnificent I feel blessed that my Mother will see out her time in Thornfield and quote "If my Mammy cannot be in her own home this is the home she would choose to be in".

Outstanding home.
Very caring staff that meet all the challenges that dementia brings, there's never a dull moment.
I really do feel that there are no negative points towards this particular home, my mother in law, a resident for eight months, seems to be very happy.
A safe, secure environment is
what she needs nowadays and we, as a family, unfortunately could no longer offer that safety.
No matter how heartbreaking the decision was, having to admit to ourselves, that we couldn't continue to give the quality of life that she deserves, we have absolutely no regrets about placing her in Thornfield.
All the staff have a very friendly, professional attitude towards family members when visiting, but more importantly they have the same attitude towards the residents they are caring for.
If you are reading this review, it no doubt means that you are considering a place for a loved one.
I can only say, from our own experience that Thornfield was the correct choice for us, but once again, more importantly, it was the best choice for her. She is safe, she is happy, and in her own delicate mind, she is home.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.395)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.395) out of 10 for Thornfield Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.495 for Thornfield Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (137 Excellents x 5) + (40 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 194 Ratings = 4.495
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Thornfield Care Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
