Located in Bere Alston in the beautiful Tamar Valley, West View is a peaceful care home with a lovely outlook. There are a selection of spacious rooms with ensuite wet rooms and smaller rooms some with ensuite and a few without. There is a passenger lift for ease of access to and from communal facilities.

West View is an accredited Butterfly Home reaching accreditation as excellent by Meaningful Care Matters. The home has two houses Robin House and Wren House which operate like extended family units where staff and residents live their lives together. Residents are engaged in meaningful daily activity from preparing vegetables to cooking, laying tables helping with laundry as well as have a lot of fun singing and dancing and being creative. As a family run home they offer a personal service. The home is highly recommended by all who have contact with them particularly for the friendliness and kindness of the wonderful staff team.

The team enjoy having fun and people certainly enjoy life here.

The care is skilful combining professionalism and genuine regard for residents and their families. They really do care: it's a warm and welcoming place sensitive to a range of needs. I would highly recommend West View.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
This lovely family-focussed home provided our friend with a wonderful respite break. In the short duration that she was there, her time was filled with trips out to Dartmoor and the Plymouth Hoe for ice creams and sight-seeing. She encountered birds of prey visiting the home and miniature ponies which
she absolutely loved. There was a variety of activities on offer although she was reluctant to engage in some staff encouraged participation. She was welcomed and fully included with other residents and nothing was too much trouble for their staff reassuring her in every aspect including the stair-lift which wasn’t so popular. Thank you so much for your excellent service.
Reply from Trevor Atkinson, Manager at West View Care HomeThank you for taking the trouble to review our care home. Thankfully only three rooms require access by a stairlift as we have a full wheelchair accessible passenger lift fitted for access to all our all first floor rooms. We are glad that your friend enjoyed her stay.

West View is a wonderful, caring, homely environment. They have taken my mum's needs, being blind, into account with everything they do. She enjoys many of the activities and her mental health has improved remarkably as she is kept well amused and stimulated. Her health needs are also very well met.

When entering West View care home please do not treat this as a hotel as there are other people to be considered. You will then receive excellent care, excellent food, loving care, warmth and be made very welcome by carers and staff.

Staff are caring and considerate but inclined to be overstretched, especially overnight. Residents are treated with friendly consideration and their requirements are met as far as is possible. Pleasant and comfortable atmosphere.
Reply from Trevor Atkinson, Owner at West View Care HomeThank you for your review, your opinion matters to us. We have two working night staff from 9.30pm to 7.30am and we record and monitor our response times. We respond to the most highly dependent residents as a priority, some of whom require two staff for assistance. Please let me know if you have any further issues. Tenants such as yourself have an emergency only response however, we will always aim to assist you should you request help at night. Trevor.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.588)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.588) out of 10 for West View Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.813 for West View Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (104 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 128 Ratings = 4.813
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for West View Care Home is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6, which has been reached with 11 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
