The home is very homely and friendly. The night staff are excellent, day staff varies, some are excellent and some not so. Not encouraged to go outside, shame as lovely garden here. No parasols and some small tables would be lovely.
After a few years of my 91-year-old father trying to remain living independently he finally, and sadly, conceded that he could no longer cope living at home. After a fair bit of research, we settled on Larks Leas. And thank goodness we did. It's been a wonderful, reassuring experience for what could have a been traumatic life-changing event. Dad settled in instantly. The staff are so brilliant, caring and friendly, all of them. Dad literally has a new lease of life. Everywhere is clean, the garden is gorgeous. As a family, we are kept fully updated and always made to feel welcome. As a nurse of 40+ years, I'm so comforted knowing I can take off my nurse's hat and just concentrate on being my dad's daughter.
From day one my father was made to feel wanted and settled in immediately. This was an interesting time, Covid plans were put in place by the Larks Leas team. A pod was planned and built to enable face-to-face contact, so important for my father, brilliant.
Every little detail to help my father feel at home; an extra gravy (thick) boat at lunch, his own bottle of Worcestershire Sauce with his name on ready for his cooked breakfast. Mending his trousers et cetera.
For me, my phone calls, emails responded straight away. Phone calls if he was not well with the latest information.
My father was 97 when he passed away. I passionately believe we had him longer due to the care and organisation given by the whole Larks Leas team.
Thank you so much.
Absolutely excellent care. All the staff are very kind and obliging. Marvellous food. Fantastic range of activities provided. I am also involved heavily with taking part and helping to organise events in the home. This is very important to me.
Larks Leas has a lovely homely atmosphere created by lovely staff and I would thoroughly recommend it.
I moved my mother from London during the pandemic, where she was living alone and isolated, suffering from poor social services care and in a traumatic state, to be in better care and just down the road to me. She was 94 years old. Lark Leas provided her with exceptional care, not easy because of her age and the fact that she was practically blind and very deaf. Although my mother had falls and suffered through age from frequent UTIs, and could become disorientated and difficult to handle, they remained caring and supportive towards her at all times. She died on Christmas day last year, but I think that the year and a half that she stayed at Lark Leas gave her the peace, security and care that she needed before her passing. I highly recommend Lark Leas as perhaps the best care home in Blandford and would not hesitate in recommending it to others.
Larks Leas Rest Home has always struck me as a respected retirement home. As a former resident, I can attest to the outstanding reputation. What I like the most is the carefree lifestyle. All of these once-overwhelming responsibilities are no longer a source of concern for me. I'm enjoying my stay; it seems like home here. Unfortunately, I had to shift with my brother to a new home.
I found everyone very friendly and I felt that he was treated with great care and much kindness. The Manager always knew what was going on and manages the home in an efficient but friendly manner.
Unfortunately, dad became had a spell in hospital and then deteriorated. He was treated with such kindness in his last few days.
Larks Leas was recommended to us and it was a fine choice.
Very helpful and caring staff who took excellent care of mum. The food was excellent and the staff worked hard to get mum involved in the daily activities. Unfortunately, mum's condition deteriorated and she had to move to a home specialising in dementia care. Larks Leas Rest Home helped make the transfer as stress free as possible.
Both my parents lived at Larks Leas for two/three years. The care provided was very good and I felt confident that they were being well looked after. The food was good and well prepared/presented which is very important. The carers were always professional, patient, kind, friendly, welcoming, and approachable. Given the hours they work and the nature of the tasks they perform, they must be truly very special people. The atmosphere was homely and I felt the home benefitted from being a smaller operation than many others. The management was efficient and the manager and her staff responded promptly to requests and suggestions. I formed the impression that the home was well supported by the owners. Things that needed upgrading and replacing were attended to without delay. Unlike some other, privately owned residential homes where money is spent on the rooms the public use/see at Larks Leas the furniture and fittings in residents' rooms were of a good standard and well maintained.
Initially, my mum went into Larks Leas temporarily whilst her house was repaired after a water leak, but then she realised that life there for a 94 year old was much preferable to the struggles that she was having at home, so she stayed for the best part of 5 years until she recently peacefully passed away. She was very happy there and, I too was much happier in the knowledge that she was being well looked after, both day and night. I live nearly 100 miles away so, whilst I visited as often as I could, I also relied upon telephone calls with my mum and the staff in order to keep in touch, together with emails, particularly during the various recent lockdowns: at all times, I was kept well informed about any changes to procedures in the home and visiting arrangements. I believe that the professionalism, especially during the pandemic; and care shown to my mum by the staff has been second to none: I came to regard the team there as an extension of my family.
I am so glad we found Larks Leas and can't praise the home enough for the excellent care both my mother and later, my father received. The staff are kind and welcoming, despite the restrictions caused by COVID, and even when under intense pressure. My father was reassured by the care he saw my mother receive, and then felt safe and comfortable, when he eventually moved in, treating Larks Leas as his home. I live over 200 miles away from Larks Leas, but staff always found time to listen and explain things, over the phone and by email, so that I could continue to support my father. They fitted me in for visits, provided regular updates, took on board any suggestions me or my father made and addressed our numerous questions and concerns in a friendly, informative, and professional way. There are more expensive care homes nearby, but for my family, Larks Leas is the best.
My mother has spent almost 4 years at Larks Leas where she has been very well cared for by the very kind staff. In her final days, I had been very comforted to see the loving, affectionate care given to Mum by the team who clearly care greatly for their residents and they went above and beyond in their care of Mum. It was a source of great reassurance to me, to know that Mum was so well cared for.
It has been a pleasure supporting your lovely mum. Thank you for your lovely review.
Larks Leas provides a very homely environment where residents are cared for to a very high standard by very kind and hard-working staff. The rooms are very comfortable and the home is spotless. The way they have managed this pandemic, with no cases of infection, is a credit to the home. My father-in-law spoke very highly of Larks Leas, in fact, he used to say this is the best rest home in the country.
Mum settled in quickly, and I was able to visit as many times a week as I wanted. During the lockdown, the staff made sure we 'skyped' regularly, and we now have a purpose-built perspex pod for visiting which is brilliant!
Before Covid, I always joked that Mum had a better social life than me. There were visits to the Quay for fish and chips, trips to the airfield or a local garden centre for tea and cakes, bingo, coffee at a shop or a local café, not to mention a visiting hairdresser, podiatrist, keep fit lady, petting dogs/owls/llamas, musicians, visits by the local nursery children, flower arranging, and cooking to name a few of the activities.
Thank you all at Larks Leas for looking after Mum so well.
Thank you for your lovely review. I think we are all looking forward to beating Covid!
Amazing team - special team - lovely establishment.
My father lived at Larks Leas for over 18 months prior to his death in June. On arrival he was immediately made to feel most welcome and part of one big happy family. All the staff, from the manager down to the cleaner, always treated Dad with the utmost respect and the loving care they provided was second to none. Everyone was very accommodating and friendly with nothing being too much trouble. The food was always excellent with multiple choices for each meal. I knew Dad was in very capable and caring hands especially during his final days and I cannot praise Larks Leas highly enough.
Thank you for this lovely review. We were privileged to have your lovely mum in the home.
My mother stayed for three weeks respite care and we can only sing the praises of the staff at Larks Leas - everyone is so friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and the staff went the extra mile to make my mother's stay as comfortable as possible. Thank you to everyone at Larks Leas.
Mum died in January 2019 after 11 days of end of life care. The manager and all staff were exceptional in their care for her. Also supportive to me.
The home was always approachable, informative and caring.
I feel very comfortable talking to any member of staff, from management to carers, all are helpful. The home has a lovely feel about it. The food smells good and looks good, mum eats it all. It's just very welcoming, I'm happy with mums care.
