Overall Experience

Royal Court has wonderfully caring and empathetic staff for whom nothing seems too much trouble. Following her arrival at the beginning of 2025, my aunt quickly felt settled, and, although she cannot now communicate, she appears contented and comfortable. The quality of food is good, and the spacious accommodation is for the most part kept clean and fresh. I have found the management to be proactive in communicating with me if ever there is a decision to be taken about my aunt's medical or dental treatment. All in all, I believe Royal Court to be well managed and I would not want my aunt to be anywhere else.

Review from Frank C (Husband of Resident) published on 13 March 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My wife was at Royal Court from Sept'25 to Jan'26. Our experience was distressing and unacceptable. There were safeguarding failures with 2 assaults by another resident, and no effective action taken to prevent the 2nd. There were repeated failures in basic standards of care. Clothing and belongings went missing, leaving my wife improperly dressed. Housekeeping was often poor and maintenance issues not resolved. Personal care was neglected, with diet, medical, grooming and foot care issues. Communication was particularly difficult for a dementia resident. Many staff, especially Agency workers, didn't converse clearly in English. Overall, we experienced poor management, inadequate safeguarding, and a lack of professionalism. My wife has moved to a care home where standards are vastly better. I've rated 2-Stars because of mitigating points. Despite pressures, most staff were very kind, and the CEO also acknowledged the seriousness of my complaint with a significant refund of fees paid.

Reply from Kevin Snowball, Chief Executive at Royal Court Care Home
We are sorry to hear that you were not happy with some aspects of our care.

My mother arrived in Royal Court with her husband as respite care in the autumn of 2021. Although COVID restrictions were still in place, I was happy with what I saw of the spacious accommodation and care. We have experienced a few changes in staff and management, but overall, I am very happy with the care my mother is receiving. This is especially true now that she has moved into the Dragonfly Unit, where she is just settling in with a closer, more intimate care setting.

The staff are excellent at Royal Court however I am concerned that several really good members of staff from one particular unit in the home have left since new management took over. Also others have left in different areas and have been moved around so this is an unstabling factors for residents. Please bring back old management for both staff and residents.

We feel mum is looked after very well, she seems to enjoy her time at the home but does have her off days. On the whole we are very pleased with her care. The only points we feel could be improved is she often has other people's clothes on, even though she has plenty of her own (all named)!

A fantastic care home with lovely staff, great food and an excellent standard of care. Royal Court is clean and welcoming, my partner has Huntingdons Disease and goes here for respite care, they understand her needs and make her feel comfortable and safe. I can't recommend them highly enough

Thank you very much for such an amazing recommendation. We always make sure that our residents are in the centre of everything what we do. We treat them with respect, dignity and empathy and it doesn't matter if they are here for respite or permanent care. We always make sure, that they feel like in home and they always want to come back to us.

Royal Court admitted us at very short notice due to circumstances at another care home where we were booked in initially.
Food is good, facilities very good.

We have been assisted whenever needed e.g eye drops administrated as prescribed, we were made to feel very welcome, no request was too much.

Overall Experience

My 97-year-old mum took up residence in Royal Court just after Christmas 2023 and lived there till she died in March 2024. Although living independently before a number of falls and illnesses meant she no longer had the confidence to live alone, so moving into care was a huge and potentially distressing change. However, from the moment she arrived the team made her so welcome that within a couple of weeks she felt very much at home. We initially chose Royal Court because she was able to have a separate bedroom, bathroom and living room with kitchenette (and lots of windows) so she wouldn't feel she was moving into a 'home' so much as moving into a new flat, albeit with a team of wonderful people keeping their eyes on her 24/7. Of course, it is the people, not the bricks and mortar, that make the difference and I can't praise the team at Royal Court enough. They were, without exception, absolutely brilliant. Kind, caring and fun as well as professional and knowledgable.

This is my mother's second short stay at Royal Court and I cannot rate it highly enough. The process of moving into the home and then back out is very easy due to the excellent management, the management team are brilliant, the deputy manager is extremely personable and friendly, a real asset. All the staff at the home are courteous, friendly and knowledgeable about the residents in their care. The food looks extremely nice and the home itself is always exceptionally clean and tidy. The staff really do go out of their way to accommodate specific requests. This would be my number one choice if my mother ever needed permanent care.

I cannot speak highly enough of the help and support both my mother and the family have received, following the need for Mum to go into residential care (following a fall). Mum moved into Royal Court in January very confused and unsettled, following four months in hospital. The support, kindness and understanding shown was second to none, along with the medical care needed to support Mum on her recovery. This level of support has continued and Mum has settled in so well, enjoying her new surroundings, the activities (especially the trips outs), and care provided. As a family, we feel welcomed, that Mum is getting excellent care and that she is safe and happy. What more could you wish for a special member of your family? I wish to thank each and every member of staff for their care and kindness to Mum. I would highly recommend Royal Court Care Home.

Managers and staff welcomed my husband and the visiting family warmly. This continued throughout the stay. The apartment style accommodation was very homely. My husband and I felt heard and the staff adapted the care given as requested. Communication was acted on and appropriate. The managers were particularly supportive and helpful with this and also in assisting with working with statutory agencies. The domestic side of the home was great, clean and tidy with a range of foods on offer well prepared and presented. Visitors were offered refreshments at each visit and I was invited to join my husband for a shared meal which was very special.
We experienced further support from Royal Court staff over the discharge arrangements when things were facilitated to ensure the best timing possible to meet up with other professionals. Royal Court provided the use of a wheelchair accessible vehicle, driver and escort.

We would not hesitate to recommend Royal Court to someone in need of care.

I have been impressed with the gracious and careful care offered by the staff who are very willing to meet my care needs, which were not well described in referral documents. Carers have been friendly and attentive, willing to listen to my description of what feels comfortable and to gain a better understanding of how my stroke has affected my needs. The carers work well together and are very respectful, explaining what they are doing and explaining why, which sets a tone of care and respect that is very person-centered. I have felt fully involved in planning and decisions. The senior staff have worked respectfully to support arrangements for my transition home from my respite placement, which was part of a hospital discharge plan. I have been kept fully updated, communication with my professional support network has been very appropriate. The hospitality has been exceptional, very attentive to visitors, offering drinks and refreshments and supporting family members to join me for meals.

Royal Court has gone above and beyond for my mother. We needed emergency care for her after she was unable to be safe at home alone. They placed her in a superb apartment within two hours of contact.
Her care here is amazing! We haven't seen my mother this happy since my dad passed away.
Staff are always friendly and approachable for anything we ask. There is a lovely atmosphere here as soon as you walk through the door. Mum's personal and social care is fantastic.
The activities provided are so varied and fun. Mum knows she can take part in whatever she likes but doesn't feel pressured if she doesn't want to take part. Mum also enjoys the outings she is taken on.
Before Mum came here she had chosen to stop eating and drinking. Now she really enjoys her food. Mum looks so healthy!
We had a rare tricky situation involving her funding but the manager was so supportive and reassured us that Mum can stay here and they love having her.

We really appreciate everything all staff do here.

My relative is a very private person and the Butterfly Wing at Royal Court gives them the privacy and quiet that they need. They are very happy there and really benefit from being able to have their own things in the room. They enjoy the garden and also say that the food is very good.

When I visit, the staff are always very welcoming and kind. They always seem very attentive and sensitive to my relative's needs. The premises are clean and bright and the fact that there is safe access to the outdoor spaces is a real bonus.

My father has been happy to be at Royal Court. Having experienced another care home, albeit for a very short period, he has come to value where he is now and the obvious care that he receives. He enjoys the food, which is a significant bonus given that we were quite sure that he was probably not taking proper care of himself in that regard. He has often repeated that he is very glad to be where he now is, and the feelings of isolation that he had experienced whilst living as a widower have been mitigated by this new situation. He very much likes the staff and their friendliness, and even some of the agency staff he has come to enjoy and like for their kindness towards him.
