Fletcher House has an excellent community reputation, thanks to a homely setting and the hard work of a care team who are dedicated to quality provision.

Significant investment has gone into making the most of the site, which has included extension and refurbishment with new en-suite bedrooms, private patio areas and landscaped gardens. There is a dedicated 'Petals' suite where dementia care is provided by highly trained specialist staff team.

The manager and care team maintain a focus on allowing individuals to lead an active, independent and fulfilling life, with regular outings and daily activities.

I came today to move my father-in-law to a new home with my wife. I was very disappointed with the support of the staff on duty except for one young carer who helped us to get my father-in-law to my car and helped to get him in the car. His meds were not ready and no one from the management team came
to see if we or the staff needed any support. It was very stressful for my wife, myself, my father-in-law and the carer, who I must say was very helpful and supportive. As someone who works in care I was very disappointed.

Dad is always treated with respect in the dementia friendly unit even though he can be verbally aggressive and noisy.
I have had concerns for staff wellbeing during the winter. There seem to be many changes and the regular need to use of agency staff.
I am pleased to see a slightly different approach
to activities.
Yesterday staff had anticipated in advance dad’s dissatisfaction with the parachute activity and had selected classical music on the TV and attractive slideshow of spring flowers in bloom.
Unfortunately, this didn’t stop dad from shouting and proclaiming the activity “childish” but they had tried!
It was great to see the beaming smile on the face of one of the ladies and good to recognise that the residents were exercising their arm muscles.
I was also impressed that one of the activity staff had located a vintage song (Mr Sandman) which an old lady had been singing a few days before.
A video had been downloaded with printed lyrics so residents could join in if they wished.

I have just returned from an excellent "Mad Hatters Tea party" at Fletcher House in which all the staff and residents have joined in a great celebration. Not only tea, cakes etc under the gazebo but music and signing. All the staff took part, which was a great effort from the entertainment team as always.
Waiting for the next one.

I have had connections with Fletcher House Wells, Somerset, for a long time and always been pleased with it. My father in law was very happy here during 2007-2011.
My brother is now currently a resident 2012-present. He does not take advantage of the activities and would probably be more content if
activities were not so voluntary, he would then be obliged to do them and mix better and time would not hang so heavily.

Staff are welcoming, friendly and obliging to visitors but residents always come first. The areas are always clean, bright and fresh feeling. The residents are well supported, cared for and treated with respect and patience. The food is excellent. The activities laid on are varied and well managed and
are excellent in maintaining residents interests, involvement and abilities. Overall the staff go beyond what is expected of them in regards to their pay and create a warm atmosphere that makes Fletcher House feel like home.

Prior to my Father residing at Fletcher House, we arrived one evening unannounced it was tea time and obviously very busy but we received a warm welcome and were shown around by a member of staff it was a very calm and happy atmosphere.I have visited a large number of residential and nursing homes during
my professional career and I am grateful that a place like Fletcher House exists. Dad was always treated with kindness, compassion and understanding. The staff had the ability to motivate him which had sometimes been difficult when he was at home.they had time for him. There are an extensive range of social activities something to suit everybody if they wish to join in. I could certainly recommend Fletcher House to anyone because of its high standard of care and its warm and friendly home from home atmosphere.

My grandmother (100 years old) came to Fletcher House from another care home which was not entirely suitable for her as she was unhappy there. At 100 yrs old despite having limited mobility (she walks slowly with a frame) she has excellent mental focus and enjoys company and interaction. I am both amazed
and overwhelmed by the wonderful team led by the activities lady who organise and supervise such a continual array of fantastic activities for the residents. My grandmother has enjoyed and taken part on as many as possible and this has been a huge factor making her feel settled, happy and part of this little community. There are regular weekly cookery and craft afternoons. A Chinese takeaway night which was a huge success and of course an amazing celebration lunch commemorating the Queens 90th birthday. Well done to the activities team, they put Fletcher House a cut above the rest.

Day Care first was very encouraging made a group of friends. Later happily stayed for Respite Care, enjoyed meals, company and social activities. Finally during long time stay care was excellent, standards high within a very relaxed and homely atmosphere in which friendships continued to grow. Privacy
was respected and time given generously when necessary. Activities and outings were very good providing plenty of fun. All in house Tea room once a week beautifully arranged and very appropriate was available for residents to entertain their guests, most enjoyable! well recommended. Final year a happy one.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.522)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.522) out of 10 for Fletcher House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.547 for Fletcher House is calculated as follows: ( (149 Excellents x 5) + (68 Goods x 4) + (18 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 236 Ratings = 4.547
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Fletcher House is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
