We as a family think that Sydenham House is amazingly good. Each and every carer treat my mum with kindness, respect, thoughtfulness, and care. The premises are always clean, and during the winter months, lovely and warm compared to the outside temperature. The food is of excellent quality and mum always
enjoys her meals and desserts plus hot and cold drinks. The management are very friendly to us as well. We highly recommend Sydenham House for a loved one. Thank you to all.

I've worked in care for over 25 years. So I know what expectations I'm looking for. So I start by saying (wow) The manager of Sydenham House has gone above and beyond to make sure my mum as settled in well. eg personally talking to my every opportunity she can. I've witnessed on several occasions letting
my mum bring her own bed from her home and sitting chair- as she has memory loss having familiar objects around her helping to settle in. All staff eg from the cook, cleaner, laundry assistant, care staff. Activities coordinator all know my mum by her first and last name.
Reply from Sydenham House, Somerset Care at Sydenham HouseDear Bev, thank you for your kind words about Sydenham House, especially given your own professional experience. We love to do all we can to support our residents to feel at home, and to create an environment for them which feels familiar, comfortable and safe. It is our pleasure to care for your Mum, support her to join in with activities of her choosing, and to ensure that you feel informed and involved with her care.

So pleased mum was accepted by Sydenham House after an assessment. Mum is 93 years old and has vascular and Alzheimer's disease and had a stroke in the summer.
The staff have quickly got to know mum and her needs, they are very attentive and keep us updated. We are always greeted with a smile, nothing
is too much trouble.
Mum frequently says on visits how lovely everyone is, I love the big spacious living dining area.
Mum's room isn't that big and has no en-suite, but this doesn't bother mum and the toilet and other facilities are close by.
A big thank you Sydenham House for all your care and hard work

Mum has just become a resident at Sydenham House. It is immediately obvious from our first visit today this care home is very well managed.
The staff are very professional, friendly and attentive. The home is very well maintained, comfortable and bright. Mum has settled already, and feel sure mum will
continue to enjoy being at Sydenham House.
Thank you

Everyone is very helpful and polite, everybody from the top staff to the lower staff are quality. Very good getting my mum installed with your handymen. Food is good and drinks trolley round all the time. No problem with visitors and no restrictions. Good size room and light clean and tidy in the room.
Room, toilet, basin, room internal.
Washing of clothes is done daily and nicely.
No hesitation in recommending to anyone.

Sydnham House and all the staff have been amazing in supporting my grandad, from day visits to support his loneliness just after COVID to him becoming a full resident after a health deteriation. The process to grandad becoming a resident was extremely difficult and took a lot from me in regards to energy,
time and mental health but the manager was there for me every step of the way, she communicated with me regularly, supported me with the social services with grandad's best interests at the heart of everything she did. The manager and team continue to offer this dedication to myself and grandad. The care and love they have for him is such a beautiful thing to witness and makes me feel safe that he is receiving the best possible care daily. Grandad loves getting involved in all the activities especially bowls and singing and dancing along with the entertainment that is provided regularly. Music is such a magical thing for people with dementia and I have witnessed grandad come alive on these days.
Reply from Somerset Care, Somerset Care at Sydenham HouseThank you so much for sharing your incredible feedback for our Sydenham House respite and residential care home in Bridgwater. We strive to provide the tailored care and support which residents and their families need, to make the transition into care as smooth a possible. A lovely welcoming home, a place you can go and visit your loved one and feel at ease. The staff here do such a fantastic job, not just with the people they care for but also with the ones who are visiting. My mum has come on in leaps and bounds since being here, enjoying meal times with others, to
joining in with activities, things she wouldn't have done before. I can see a high difference in her now and its all thanks to them.

I've been visiting my aunty regularly for a year and always found the staff friendly and treat residents with 100% care and respect at all times, even in challenging times. Last week my aunty had a fall and an ambulance was called. On my arrival, my aunty was still on the floor and two staff were sat
with her. I stayed until the ambulance left with her and during that hour or two I was impressed with everything the team did from the staff to the manager (even the chef came and spoke to her). Well done team. Thank you.

My mum is now 93, and she has had a fantastic two-week stay at Sydenham House. She keeps saying how lovely, kind and considerate all the staff have been. She loved all the activities and the fantastic company that she has had over the last two weeks. She has already requested to go back at Christmas.

My aunt entered Sydenham House Bridgwater this year at the end of July. After a different care home in Bridgwater closed. The team at Sydenham House Bridgwater have gone above and beyond to help my aunt settle into her new room and her new life at Sydenham House. The team also help my aunt with her
doctors appointments and hospital appointments. My aunt is happy with her move and likes the team who are giving 110% good service everyday! I visit my aunt regularly and see all the staff regularly who are always pleased to see me. They are all very helpful when I need questions answered and anything else I need for my aunt. I am 100% happy that my aunt is in Sydenham House with the team which makes a big difference when you live over an hour away! Thank you for all you do, please keep up the good work moving forward!

Our relative has been in Sydenham House for a month now and loves it there. There are lots of activities including craft days. The staff we have met are very nice and always helpful. We really like the four-chair lounge areas where you can have your visit rather than in the resident's room or the main
communal lounge. We are so pleased that our relative is very happy there.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.748)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.748) out of 10 for Sydenham House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.923 for Sydenham House is calculated as follows: ( (146 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 155 Ratings = 4.923
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sydenham House is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 49 registered maximum number of service users is 9.8, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
