This is a very good care home. It is community owned so you will never see the owners Bentley in the carpark. No care home is cheap but at least the fees are going into the home. They are an extremely friendly and engaging team at Vaughan Lee House. They give you great confidence that your parent is
well cared for.

My mother lived at Vaughan Lee House for a little under twelve months. She was not in the best of health and was quite confused at times, but at all times she was treated by all who work there with warmth, patience and understanding. The staff encouraged her to join in meals in the dining room and a
variety of activities. We had great peace of mind knowing she was so well looked after. We had no worries about her care.

Vaughan Lee cared for my mother for the inside of one day a week. She had different company to normal, was entertained, exercised, fed well and cared for admirably. This happened for about two years - in this time there was one small, practical problem, and once noticed Vaughan Lee addressed the issue
and it wasn't an issue again. Great care and a happy mother!

We are pleased to recommend Vaughan Lee after over a year of caring for our 93 year old mother in law. The management and staff are always efficient, friendly and caring, and the home is constantly being updated and modernised in structure and decor and furniture, and there is always a pleasant family
atmosphere apparent, together with a sense of fun and humour. Thank you.

I was really impressed by Vaughan Lee House. It is clean, fresh-smelling, bright. The staff, from the Manager down, are helpful and cared well for my uncle, despite the fact that he could be grumpy and abrupt.
I believe that the Home cared for my uncle and looked after him well. They kept in touch
with me (I live miles away), including telling me that he was fading fast; this enabled us to visit him before he died.
On his deathbed (3-4am) at least 2 staff were with him. It was a real comfort to know that he didn't die alone.
I would recommend Vaughan Lee House to anyone looking for an excellent care home.

I have always found the staff extremely polite and helpful, nothing is too much trouble.
They treat all the residents with professional calm and respect. Whenever my mother-in-law is unwell she always receives all the attention that she needs even if a member of staff has to stay with her all night.

My mother has been in this care home since January 2018. During this time she has had episodes of being unwell and one short stay in the hospital. The staff have been very responsive at these times providing extra care and support when needed. All staff are caring and professional however the younger
staff are particularly outstanding in their cheerfulness and positivity.

Excellent, staff could not be more helpful and friendly. My father is very happy, settled quickly and I can relax for the first time in several years knowing he is in a safe environment, which just happens to be right on my doorstep.
Vaughan Lee has exceeded all my expectations and I hope my father
will choose to stay permanently, having initially gone in for respite only.

I attend Vaughan Lee House twice a week. I have my lunch here both days and have a bath on Thursday.
I find the facilities excellent - the staff are thoughtful, friendly and very helpful.
The lunchtime food is very tasty, hot and enjoyable. Tea and coffee are always available. I really enjoy coming
here and have made several friends of the residents.

My mum was very reluctant to move to a care home, but after in and out of hospital for three months home care was not enough. She came to Vaughan Lee House for respite after a long stay in hospital she will now stay as she cannot praise the staff enough for the care she receives. I myself am very pleased
with how friendly and caring the home is.

My father had lost interest in life, in general, had no interests or hobbies. Since being at Vaughan Lee House he is a different person- happy- enjoys taking part in activities and talking to the other residents and visitors. My son got married in July and as my father has difficulty walking didn't
think it possible for him to attend. Kindly one of the care assistants organised to bring him to the church service, which was lovely for him and the family. I was extremely grateful as it enabled dad to be part of my son's special day.

I visited two residents of Vaughan Lee House today and both commented on how well they were being looked after. They have both been there a few weeks now and are very thankful for everything that's being done for them, speaking highly of all the staff. My own experience is that I have found the staff
friendly and helpful on each time I've visited.

My husband has dementia and visits for day care (3 days). He is greeted warmly by staff. He likes joining in the activities and enjoys his lunch, particularly on Fridays, fish and chip day.
The staff are very helpful, his mobility is poor and they make sure his catheter bag is emptied at each visit
and treat him with dignity in all aspects of care.
Many local people visiting stop and chat to him. The room he sits in is bright and airy, with panorama views over Ilminster.

My 95 year old mother moved to Vaughan Lee House almost 4 years ago and during this time the level of care and attention she has received has been good. On the occasions she has not been very well the staff have alerted the doctor/emergency services straight away. I have always been able to talk to
the staff about my mother and am reassured by their caring attitude. I chose Vaughan Lee House because of its very good reputation and the fact it is a long standing charity that serves the local community very well.

My mother is 93 years old and had lived in her sheltered bungalow for over 20 years more than ten on her own. After several falls and broken limbs and numerous visits to hospital mum agreed she no longer felt safe at home. I contacted the manager at Vaughan Lee House who was very helpful and was told
there was a vacant room, so within a week mum had moved into her new home on a months trial, within 48 hours mum was very happy and said she would like to stay. Mum has been made to feel very welcome, she says everyone is so friendly and has very good care. We can't thank the staff enough for all they have done. I give Vaughan Lee 10/10.

Vaughan Lee Residential Home has an excellent local reputation. The building is well designed and the communal areas are open plan. This is a big advantage for the residents and staff, as those residents who want company can mix and sit together in an area where they can watch the comings and goings
without being isolated in just one large room with a door that staff could just pass by. And the carers have good visibility of the residents. The staff at Vaughan Lee appear to be happy in their work. They regularly sit and talk to the residents, play games, and sometimes paint their nails. All the residents look clean and well dressed and the food is excellent.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.652)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.652) out of 10 for Vaughan Lee House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.952 for Vaughan Lee House is calculated as follows: ( (80 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.952
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Vaughan Lee House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
