The Firs Residential Care Home

The Firs care home is a registered 30 bedded residential home for people with dementia. The home is situated on a main bus route, only five minutes walk from the centre of Calne, a quiet market town. The Firs provides a safe, secure, friendly and nurturing environment for service users. The age group of service users range from 50 and over.

Accommodation is provided in a single room with facilities of television, telephone point, electric profile bed and En-suite

The home provides two supportive living flats for respite or convalescent care. This accommodation is designed for short stay, if family or personal carers are on holiday or for convalescence to improve fitness, mobility and general health with emphasis to regain their independence and return home as soon as possible. Each flat consists of a lounge with kitchenette a bathroom and a bedroom allowing independence with the benefit of 24 hour care and support including all facilities within the care home.

In addition, service users also have a good choice of communal areas to enjoy including three lounges, dining room, large conservatory, and a large enclosed courtyard. There are plenty of secured garden for service users.

Regular visits are made to the home by an experienced hair stylist and chiropodist. The home has a dedicated activities co-ordinator.

The philosophy is to promote quality through person centred care. This is achieved with prompts and encouragements and by respecting the service user’s personal choice, rights, dignity, privacy and independence all within a safe, secure, happy and nurturing environment

Carers also aim to recognise each service users’ emotional, psychological, physical and spiritual needs and actively encourages friends and family to visit service users.
