A shower unit would be nice.
Activities poor - largely due to the other residents who wish to sit and watch TV all day.

My mother is currently a resident at Victoria Gardens and I have recently visited from my home in Canada. I find that my mother is very content and feels safe and secure at Victoria Gardens. The staff are wonderful with residents and families. The staff are professional, compassionate, caring and approachable.
The staff take care to treat each resident as individuals, taking into account their specific needs, requests and personalities. I feel confident that my mother is receiving the best care.

Mother-in-law came in for 6 weeks respite care, whilst I had to go in for major surgery.
6 weeks earlier, she had been in hospital for a UTI and had come home, weak, disorientated, disengaged and substantial weight loss. At 92, this was quite serious.

Over the 6 week stay at the home, excellent

care, support and interaction with wonderful staff has seen her gain weight, become active and interested in life through the many activities and very happy.
She has asked to come back for further periods of respite in the future.
Well done and a big thank you to management and staff at Victoria Gardens.

The home is lovely and warm, the staff are friendly and helpful. They have entertainment and joke with the residents. It's more like a hotel than a home. The ensuite bedroom is clean as is the rest of the home. Uncle feels safe, secure and contented.

My sister moved in in November 2016 for 2 weeks respite care and has not moved out. They know her and her personality. They treat her as a person in her own right but notice immediately if she seems to be down and care for her. The district matrons call every day not only to see my sister but the staff
will say if they notice a change. Nothing is too much trouble- whether it's a kind word- a cup of tea - or a need to inform the matrons of a change in her health.

My Aunt has been resident in Victoria Gardens since November 2016 and my Mother-in-Law since December 2016. Both ladies initially went in for respite care and then made the decision to stop permanently. They both feel happy and safe in the warm and homely environment and continue to receive first class
care delivered with kindness, compassion and good humour. All the staff employed in the home appear to have the best interests of residents at heart and go out of their way to make them as comfortable and settled as possible. Staff have taken the time to find out what activities my relatives would enjoy and my Mother-in-Law now regularly plays Dominoes with the Activities Coordinator who is also supporting my Aunt, an ex-Librarian, to help set up a Library for residents. The care home manager is accessible and responsive and takes the time to talk to residents and their relatives. She leads by example and it is obvious that her priority is to provide the best care possible for her residents.

My father was a guest at Victoria Gardens for respite care while my mother was in hospital. He was made to feel welcome and treated as an individual by staff.
Staff were supportive with the challenges and issues that arose during his stay.
Victoria Gardens would again be my first choice for care
in the future.

Having looked at a number of care homes in the last few weeks I was beginning to doubt that there would be somewhere that I would be happy to leave my mum. Pulling onto the car park, my hopes were raised, the home and garden looked lovely. The welcome I received was warm and friendly as was the home.
It was clean, tidy and with none of the smells that were present in the homes I'd viewed. All the staff, from management to handyman are welcoming and friendly. Moved my mum in, within 24 hours of visiting and I believe that I have moved my mum somewhere that is a home in more than just its name.

This care home is understaffed due to high residency. The care home could do with a new uplift. Activity lady is hardly seen, more trips need to be arranged and the manager could learn how to smile.

My father has been in this home for 3 and a half years. He requires a lot of help and attention and the staff look after him very well. He enjoys the food very much.
The home is gradually being upgraded has a very comfortable lounge and dining room. Dad's bedroom could do with a bit of an update.
I
don't find the laundry very good. Dad's clothes look very crumpled sometimes.
The activities are varied and enjoyed by all the residents.

I can directly compare the home and care given to my nan in her home with the same that my friend receives here. The accommodation is far superior here, the staff are caring, friendly and treat their residents as people, not as objects and the level of care and support is second to none.

If only

Victoria Gardens had been open before my nan passed away.

My mother has been a resident for 2 months. She has dementia and needed more support than we could give her. All the team have been great. Mother has settled really quickly and is already in better mental and physical health. She says she is treated like a queen.
I myself have found the team very
friendly and helpful. Any questions or concerns I have raised has been fully answered and the team are happy to discuss any problems. I find the atmosphere relaxed and homelike. The open door policy allows me to visit when my shift work permits and Mum and I can still go out to the theatre, etc., as we wish.
I highly recommend this home.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.845)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.845) out of 10 for Victoria Gardens Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.756 for Victoria Gardens Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (35 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 45 Ratings = 4.756
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.089 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Victoria Gardens Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 5.6 = 0.714
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
