The Homestead Care Home provides specialised care for elderly people suffering from past and present mental illness. This purpose built facility provides round the clock care and has achieved the internationally recognised standard of ISO 9001:2008 and the nationally recognised standard Investors In People.

Accommodation at The Homestead is offered in 35 single rooms, 13 of which have en-suite facilities. Residents are welcome to bring personal possessions. Communal areas include three lounge areas and a dining room. A nutritious and varied menu is offered and special diets can be catered for upon request.

Mum came to the home in October 2025. She settled well and is well cared for. Staff keep me up to date whenever is necessary and it gives me great peace of mind that mum is safe and well cared for. Thank you to you all.

I am Doreen's blood sister and power of attorney.
Doreen is very happy, she enjoys her food and likes the carers very much. Homestead is a very happy place with lots of activities for residents.

Staff are caring and attentive.
Management approachable and understanding.
Personal care is well maintained, and support is given to the individual to maintain independence.
Activities - a new activity leader is in the pipeline - needs to be a priority for those clients who are more able.

Mom has been here for almost 12 months. She is very settled here, trusts and gets on well with the staff. She has come on lots in the Homestead, previous to her last home. Lots of lovely carers, fed well, looked after well. Any problems they are sorted ASAP. Lots of friendly chat. More activities are
needed and a bit of decorating, but overall a lovely home.

Right from my first visit, I was impressed, so kind and caring. All my questions were answered. I was given lots of reassurance, as it was so hard to make the decision for my father to go into a home. I can not recommend Homestead enough, every member of staff are so kind, caring to residents & visitors.
Everyone has time to chat with the residents, no matter how busy they are.

I visit my cousin Jill every week - twice a week, and always find her happy. The staff here are so very kind and friendly. Always ready to help to take measures to make Jill comfortable, and the food is very acceptable. We are never disappointed in the way she is being looked after.

My Mum has just died after spending 20 months in this care home. Homestead is clean and warm, the food excellent, and there are plenty of activities and entertainments to keep residents happy and occupied. But the main reason I would gladly recommend the care home to anyone who asked is the staff.
Nothing was too much trouble for them, and they treated her not just with respect, but with compassion and genuine affection. It is hard to leave a loved one in the hands of strangers, but in the case of Homestead the strangers quickly became friends, and Mum part of the family. They will have my heartfelt thanks for their care of my mother for the rest of my days.

Excellent experience with superb care from really caring staff.
Everyone was so helpful and accommodating our mom loved it there always something going on.
Alex came to our house to introduce himself and go through the induction process which put all our minds at rest.

We've been to the home visiting a friend , the staff are all lovely , very welcoming and helpful, it's very clean and warm for all the patients ,
Nothing was to much for any member of staff ,
Really would recommend this home to anyone ..

My mom has been in the home for approximately 5 weeks, she had a very difficult time settling in but the staff didn't give up on her and worked with mental health to get her on the correct medication. All the staff are amazing and nothing is too much trouble, we are always reminded to call at any time
to get an update on how she is. There are plenty of activities going on and she has even been taken out to get her nails done and have a bite to eat. I love the way Mom is allowed to roam free in the safety of the home and there's always plenty of staff to keep an eye on her and to interact with. I feel so lucky that Mom has a place in this home and is well looked after, I honestly can't thank them all enough.

Clean, plenty of activities, and good food. Residents always look clean, the place never smells of urine etc. The staff always pleasant. The staff are friendly.

Homestead has been nothing but fantastic with Mom since she started living there last year. January this year in particular, after a stay in hospital. Nothing is too much trouble to make her as comfortable as they possibly can.
You could see the difference in Mom as soon as she got back to Homestead
more relaxed and smiling at the carers, which just goes to show how at home she feels.
This and the lovely staff that always make us feel so welcome when we visit is such a huge relief knowing Mom is so well cared for and she is happy
Sadly our grandmother passed away at Christmas. We were concerned she might not be able to get to the funeral, but the fantastic staff at Homestead assured us that Mom would be there, and she was. Even had her hair and nails done too plus a member of staff for support. Nothing is too much for them. This alone, we will always be grateful for.

All the staff from the manager, carers, wellbeing, kitchen, cleaners to the gardener are always welcoming, friendly, caring and supportive both to my mom and our family.
Mom originally went for respite but we decided that she was so settled, happy and had every need catered for that she would become
a permanent resident.
The home is excellent, well-managed, and very informative.

The staff are kind and helpful and I have seen my mother put weight on (she wasn’t eating) and is always comfortable. I feel the home is well-run and is warm and welcoming. As a family member, I have been welcomed into the home as well.

Alex Matthews

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2025

Alex has been working in the care sector for over 14 years and has worked in both a care home setting and in the NHS mental health services. He has a wide range of knowledge across all sectors of person-centred care. Alex has always had the service users' needs at the heart of all he does and will continue to provide a high standard of care, ensuring the safety of our service users.


He started working at Homestead Care Home as a night senior back in 2022 and has progressed to Deputy Manager, leading to her becoming the Registered Home Manager.


Alex is passionate about creating a true “home from home” environment, where everyone feels comfortable, valued, and well looked after. Alex takes pride in leading a caring, compassionate team that always puts people first.


He says, "I feel it is a pleasure to be able to support those who are vulnerable and be a voice to speak up for these individuals who are unable to do so independently. I feel it is paramount to ensure person-centred care is delivered and give those individuals the best life possible."
