Since my aunt arrived at Dorset House, I have been happy with her care. It has changed my opinion on care homes since she has been here.

I was very impressed with Dorset House when we came to review it on behalf of the lady who would be living there our opinion was excellent! The lady moved in a month ago and is very happy and totally satisfied. She has been a bit apprehensive about coming into care but now is so pleased to be at Dorset House everything is excellent.

Delighted with the care my mum is receiving - the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Mum has Alzheimer's but is obviously happy and being stimulated by the many activities. During lockdown, I have been able to visit mum in the lovely summer house in well-kept grounds - and today I could visit mum in the wonderfully relaxing indoor room.

My father has been a resident of Dorset House since July 2020. This was mid-Covid when we feared we would not have contact with him for some time. The staff have been compassionate, caring and professional throughout, keeping us informed about Dad's needs and progress. He has started to settle and this is without a doubt due to the commitment and hard work of all staff.

I cannot thank the staff enough for the love and care shown to my mum during her two years and three months as a resident at Dorset House. Mum had never wanted to spend her last days in a residential care home but when the need arose, we could not have found a better one. As soon as she had settled into her surroundings she loved the staff and the attention that they gave. The care and love that she received was exceptional. I was always made to feel very welcome too! From my experience, I would not hesitate to recommend Dorset House.

We moved mum to Dorset House a year ago having become increasingly dissatisfied with the care she was receiving at her previous care home. We were immediately struck by the polar differences between the two establishments. The former is an institution where her individual tasks and personality were not accommodated, and Dorest House which is more homely and where she is treated by all with warmth and dignity. Since covid 19 visiting restrictions preventing us from seeing mum. It is very comforting to know that she is happy and being cared for, the staff are very good at keeping you in touch.

Dorset House, what a fabulous facility. From management staff to carers, cleaners, caterers, and maintenance. All the staff are helpful, attentive and accommodating. The cleanliness and general tidiness of the facility is excellent - clean, bright, fresh and welcoming. The person I care for loves Dorset House from the staff, food atmosphere and all the in house facilities. She doesn't want to be or would wish to be anywhere else. I wouldn't extremely recommend, I would definitely recommend.

Lovely staff, great care.
Have wonderful memories of my aunt and her partner in the garden holding hands last summer.
Activities are great, a cellist plays in residents rooms if they wish. The music touches everyone.
Very thoughtful presents for residents; for my aunt, photo of her partner at Easter holding a lamb.

Thank you all at Dorset House.

Dorset House offers excellent care, kindness and compassion. They cared for my mother during her stay and were of great comfort to myself and at the end of her life. The setting is of a good standard, nice clean room. A lovely garden and most of all excellent care.

I cannot speak highly enough with regards to the care and love my father received during his time at Dorset House.

I also want to mention the excellent attention to detail within the home. The caring staff were always happy to help and provide second to none care and assistance. I have reserved my place for when I need to enter a care/nursing home, I was that impressed. Love to all.

Mum lived happily at Dorset House for over 5 years. Over the years she noticed several improvements, particularly in terms of the catering and the decor/environment which she was very comfortable with. Mum received excellent personal care from very attentive staff and she had good relationships with all the team who she trusted and valued.

Lisa Davis
Lisa DavisJob Title:Lifestyle CoordinatorJoined: 1999

Lisa has worked at Dorset House since 1999. She started her career straight out of school in a care focussed role and continued to work in this field as a Care Assistant and Auxiliary Nurse in other care settings for a number of years. She then took a break from care to work in catering up to starting at Dorset House. Her first role in the home was as Head Waitress alongside our Head Chef Marion. She now works as a Lifestyle Coordinator but prefers the term companion!

‘Inspiring Activities’ is one of our four main pillars at Rotherwood Healthcare and this is integral to Lisa’s role at Dorset House. It can be a very sensitive role, dealing with the resident's emotional, therapeutic and recreational needs, yet fulfilling at the same time. Lisa describes it as an honour and a privilege to help give our residents the quality of life they deserve, make their wishes come true and learn from them along the way.

In her free time, Lisa enjoys looking after her granddaughter, pottering around her garden, reading and baking to help her relax.

Mandy Stokes

Marion’s usual day in the kitchen involves cooking-up breakfast, lunches and suppers for up to 42 residents. On top of that, she comes up with different menu plans each week to keep mealtimes interesting for everyone. With mealtimes often being the highlight of the day for our residents Marion and her team at Dorset House have introduced theme days including an Italian day where she served up an impressive Italian themed three-course lunch.

Marion loves to get involved with residents' birthdays and ensures that special treats are made. She also oversees the making of celebration cakes – through the actual making of those cakes is left to her extremely talented second in command!

National holidays including St Patrick’s Day, Easter and, of course, Christmas offer yet another opportunity for Marion and her team to get creative and lay on a perfectly themed spread.

Marion loves to spend time with her family away from work and flick through the odd recipe book or two believing that you never know where inspiration may strike next!
