My mother in law was so happy during the 7 years of her stay at Dorset House. It was chosen because of its homely non-clinical feel. The staff are very caring and approachable and there is a range of activities provided for those who wish to participate and the recently decorated dining room, drawing room and morning room are comparable to a five-star hotel. Finally, dignity was always foremost in the minds of all the staff.

My brother's and I are so pleased that our mother is properly looked after in such a calm, tranquil atmosphere.

My wife has been at Dorset House for a couple of weeks now and has been enjoying her time there.

All staff fully understand her needs and behaviours, which is great to see.

She has also enjoyed all the activities which are put on daily.

Great support all round!

The manager and the staff at Dorset House are lovely and so caring. My grandad always looks smart and is happy when I go to see him. The meals look very appealing and he always says he enjoyed his lunch.
There is always something going on in the home.

Fantastic, thank you.

Friendly atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff. Dining room looks lovely, but don't know if patients are encouraged to use it more often. Also, I am not aware of any activities which may be offered. The room my friend is occupying looks out onto the garden, which is very nice, also having two windows which gives the feel of light and space. I am also not aware if any physio is offered.

As soon as I walked into Dorset House I felt that it was the right place for dad. It felt homely and non-institutional. I called in several times unannounced and on every occasion was met by helpful, friendly and caring staff.

Since moved dad in, we have always been treated with the utmost care and everyone has done their best to help make a difficult transition as un-stressful as possible. They have been understanding and sympathetic and have looked after dad as we would hope. Their caring attitude seems genuine, natural and in no way contrived.

My mother has been resident at Dorset House for over 4 years. She suffers from Alzheimers and has needed more attentive care as time has passed. I have found Dorset House to be an excellent example of a Care Home; the staff being always positive and, more importantly, available and responsive when called upon. Mother is warm, well fed, and happy.

My mom has been in Dorset House for over six years and I have never in all that time had to complain about anything. There is always a friendly face in reception, the care staff are very attentive to mom's needs at all times. I was recommended by a friend to Dorset House and I would happily recommend to others. When mom first came to live at Dorset House, she was embraced by the activities co-ordinator to join in all activities. I feel I can always approach any of the staff about any concerns I have about my mom and they are always willing to help if I have any concerns to support not just my mom but for me too.

The care Mother has received over the last 10 years has been caring and thorough. Since the change of ownership, I have noticed a change in the atmosphere within the home. The relaxed and happy nature of the home has diminished and the openness, friendliness of the staff seems somehow inhibited.

My father-in-law has been at Dorset House for over 2 years now and before him another relative. It has a different ethos to other care homes. It is still all about care and consideration and one does not have the sense that a balance sheet and shareholder profit lie behind every decision. That said, it is run very efficiently.

The staff are what makes Dorset House such a wonderful place. They are all so helpful, friendly, caring and compassionate. Nothing is too much trouble and they support the families of the residents well too. My father often tells me that he is glad that he moved here. He is very pleased with his room, which is a good size and has a lovely view over the well-kept gardens. It is filled with his own furniture, pictures and ornaments and feels like home to him. He often says how much he enjoys the meals too. The entertainments and activities provided for the residents are many and varied.

An excellent home. The residents are very well looked after by the very caring staff. The food is of an excellent quality and there is always plenty of choice and flexibility with eating arrangements. The rooms are kept very clean and residents are encouraged to personalise their own rooms. There is very good entertainment laid on for the residents and their families and a lot of thought goes into planning this. There are very comfortable public areas for the residents to sit if they want the company of others and beautiful gardens to walk or sit in when the weather allows.

Lisa Davis
Lisa DavisJob Title:Lifestyle CoordinatorJoined: 1999

Lisa has worked at Dorset House since 1999. She started her career straight out of school in a care focussed role and continued to work in this field as a Care Assistant and Auxiliary Nurse in other care settings for a number of years. She then took a break from care to work in catering up to starting at Dorset House. Her first role in the home was as Head Waitress alongside our Head Chef Marion. She now works as a Lifestyle Coordinator but prefers the term companion!

‘Inspiring Activities’ is one of our four main pillars at Rotherwood Healthcare and this is integral to Lisa’s role at Dorset House. It can be a very sensitive role, dealing with the resident's emotional, therapeutic and recreational needs, yet fulfilling at the same time. Lisa describes it as an honour and a privilege to help give our residents the quality of life they deserve, make their wishes come true and learn from them along the way.

In her free time, Lisa enjoys looking after her granddaughter, pottering around her garden, reading and baking to help her relax.

Mandy Stokes
Mandy StokesJob Title:Head HousekeeperJoined: 2005

Mandy is our head housekeeper. She has worked at Dorset House for over 15 years and is a key part of the team. Mandy and her staff always maintain the highest standards of tidiness and cleanliness for our residents at all times.

Marion JenkinsJob Title:Head ChefJoined: 2005

Marion started training as a chef at 16 years old and has enjoyed working in the profession ever since. She has devoted the past 15 years as Head Chef to cooking for our residents here at Dorset House.

Marion’s usual day in the kitchen involves cooking-up breakfast, lunches and suppers for up to 42 residents. On top of that, she comes up with different menu plans each week to keep mealtimes interesting for everyone. With mealtimes often being the highlight of the day for our residents Marion and her team at Dorset House have introduced theme days including an Italian day where she served up an impressive Italian themed three-course lunch.

Marion loves to get involved with residents' birthdays and ensures that special treats are made. She also oversees the making of celebration cakes – through the actual making of those cakes is left to her extremely talented second in command!

National holidays including St Patrick’s Day, Easter and, of course, Christmas offer yet another opportunity for Marion and her team to get creative and lay on a perfectly themed spread.

Marion loves to spend time with her family away from work and flick through the odd recipe book or two believing that you never know where inspiration may strike next!
