What can I say, my wife is quite happy there since she came to Barrowhill Hall initially for respite care in October 2016. It's nice to see her settled. The staff are so very nice. Best care home I've ever been in. She needs better activities for her Parkinson's Disease.

My Husband came to Barrowhill Hall initially for respite care in October 2016. It was then agreed that he will reside there on a permanent basis. Everyone at Barrowhill has contributed to a very smooth and positive transition to residential care. My Husband was made to feel very safe and secure. He feels very much at home and is very happy there.

The staff have been extremely professional in their approach to his care. He is treated with great care and compassion.

Very friendly staff throughout, from cleaners to carers. Always spoken to as soon as I walk in. The best home we saw when choosing a place for dad. Good atmosphere and staff caring. To achieve excellence there needs to be a little more care, in ensuring male patients are shaved and residents always have hearing aids in etc in.

What can I say, my Brother-in-Law is happy there, it's nice to see him settled. Barrowhill Hall staff are so very nice. Best care home I've ever been in, but it should be for the price he has to pay.

My mother had been a a resident at Barrowhill Hall for the past three years before she sadly passed away in February. The staff are so caring, patient, understanding and gave my mother 100% care and attention. She was treated with dignity at all times and the support for our family was also fabulous. We wouldn't have wished for her to spend her last years and days anywhere else but Barrowhill Hall. We thank all the staff for the wonderful care she received.

Overall Experience

As mum has not been there long from what I have seen I am very impressed. I used to be a dementia nurse in charge of 24 residents in nights with 1 carer and this home is a lot lot better than the one I used to work with. As it was a struggle in mornings to get residents up for day staff, we always did our best (100%+). The staff and management at Barrowhill Hall are wonderful. Always happy to help, very friendly and as I live in Crewe Cheshire I can only get down once a fortnight as I am still at work.

“It's hard to describe a typical day at Barrowhill for me as every single day is different, you have to react to what is going on. But generally, I attend the morning meeting with all the heads of department, produce daily reports to Head Office and it’s my job to do the induction training for new staff.

“My favourite part of Barrowhill has to be the views. They really are spectacular, especially the walk down to Churnet Lodge from the main building. The view simply takes your breath away, it has to be seen to be believed!

“I hope that when families visit their loved ones they leave Barrowhill knowing that their relatives are being well cared for and they are happy and safe.

“I’ve worked here for just over 6 months now. Before that, I worked at Aggregate industries for more than 38 years.

After I took redundancy I realised I needed a change and I felt it would be nice to work in a different field and the people here make it a much more interesting place to work.

“Outside of work I love Football, I love going to watch Derby County FC and I'm the secretary of Mayfield FC!

“I’m from Mayfield where I still live with my husband. We’re lucky as all of our close family live nearby. Perhaps it’s because I come from Derbyshire and not Staffordshire that I don't like oatcakes!”
