All the staff looked after my mother with great care and affection. We have not seen my mother since Lockdown in March, we didn’t come when visiting was allowed because, with the restrictions as we thought it would be too traumatic both for my mother and for us. She has dementia and struggles to...
All the staff looked after my mother with great care and affection. We have not seen my mother since Lockdown in March, we didn’t come when visiting was allowed because, with the restrictions as we thought it would be too traumatic both for my mother and for us. She has dementia and struggles to recognise us as her family. So we are very grateful for the staff and depend on them to keep her comfortable. We have regular updates and look forward to a better time when we can come to visit and just sit and hold her hand. Until then we put our trust in your dedicated staff.

Pet therapy in care homes can increase social interaction not just with the animals but also between other residents. It gives residents something to look forward to, comment on and discuss together in a way that often helps to break down barriers.
Interacting with pet animals can unlock hidden memories of cats, dogs and other creatures that may have been part of the lives of elderly residents in the past. Even when these former encounters can’t be put into words, their joy can often be seen in participants’ faces.
