My mother was in care at Hylands for almost two years until she passed in October. The staff were fabulous throughout. Always caring, patient, kind and respectful. Nothing was too much trouble and I had a huge amount of admiration for how they treated the residents and how well they knew them. The
staff were the same throughout her stay so we got to know them well, and there was a real personal touch; it felt like a family. I had not appreciated the care and attention that is an attendant part of end-of-life care, but the staff then were incredible. We were very blessed that mum was in such good hands. Linda H

Mum has been a resident @ Hylands House for about 10 weeks , the team work together to provide a good standard of care for mum , which at times must be challenging.
We are always met with kindness and consideration from the manager & her team.
It has been a relief to find a home that is close by
for dad to visit , a caring home that gives us a sense of relief, knowing mum is cared for . That we can visit easily.
The home has a good relationship with the GP practice , / District Nursing team and have been very efficient in managing any health issues. Which again provides us with confidence in the care mum receives.

The staff are always welcoming and friendly. I feel Mum is well looked after. The only criticism I have is that I find visiting hours a little restrictive. I work full time and have a 45minute drive to get there so I can only visit at weekends and then I have to negotiate their meal times. Other than
that I am quite happy with everything else.

The management and staff were very friendly and helpful.
My stepmother was always dressed nicely, with added jewellery and lipstick.
Food was always available and looked tasty.
Hylands House is not the smartest looking care home, no cinemas or bars, but the care is excellent.

My mother was at Hylands House Care Home for about 8 months before she passed away in December.
I chose Hylands House as it had been personally recommended by friends who have had family as residents.
My mother was always very well taken care of and everyone was extremely kind.
One of the great
things about Hylands House is that its a very small intimate environment. The carers really got to know my Mother, and were very good at remembering personal details. This was especially important as she had dementia and the familiarity of the same carers each day was so important for her. My father visiting my mother nearly everyday, and the team were very kind and supportive to him too.

Since my mum has been in Hyland House, she has never looked so well, she recently got hearing aids which has really helped and now joins in conversations and her outlook is much brighter and eating well. Mum had a sore on her leg and this was looked at straight away and treated. Nothing is too much
for the carers, all the staff are so friendly and helpful, management included, best move for Mum.

Hylands House continue to provide the very best I care for my mother, she is now bed-bound and has been for months yet she is always clean, cared for and only ever has the fragrance of freshly laundered linen. Her time with us is coming to a close, but Hylands have done everything to ensure we have
had extra time to be with her and for her to be treated with care and dignity. I think their care has been exceptional.

I have been a resident at Hylands House for the last 6 months. Although I'm not a typical resident, my every need has been met.
The biggest plus points of this home are the staff and environment.
My health has improved to the extent that I am now able to move out and start my next challenge towards
living independently.
If you need a care home personally or for your loved one, please look no further.

I have been highly satisfied with the care that Hylands House has provided to my brother. When I first went to view Hylands House I felt then that the staff were genuinely caring, skilled, and kind. And now that my brother has been with Hylands House for 6 months I know that my first impressions and
judgement on the carers was not wrong. The care has been excellent and the staff are superb. My brother's room has a delightful view over the garden with the flowers, birds, and rabbits keeping him entertained.

My Mother has been treated with respect, care and consideration, as have I.
I cannot really comment on all parts of the care home as my Mom is bedridden. I do walk through the lounge area and it is always bright and welcoming. The gardens are lovely. If anyone has been in to sing or visit the home,
the staff always make sure my Mom receives a visit too.
I feel content knowing my Mom is happy and very well cared for.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.795) out of 10 for Hylands House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.895 for Hylands House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (164 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 181 Ratings = 4.895
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hylands House Care Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 21 registered maximum number of service users is 4.2, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
