My mother has just spent 2 weeks at Hylands House Care for respite. My mother was well cared for and I can tell she was relaxed and happy whilst in their care. The staff have been very helpful friendly and approachable throughout the whole process.

My mum was a resident at Hylands House Care for a few months, during that time she was cared for in a kind and compassionate way, which also extended to our family. The staff were always approachable and willing to discuss any issues that arose. I always felt my mum was being well cared for and have
no doubts that Hylands, being a small care home was the best place for her.

Both my mother and mother in law reside at Hylands House and we highly rate the individual attention to their personal care and welfare. Being a small number of residents means the care is constant and personal to each resident

My friend has been at Hylands House for some time now and the care she has received has been outstanding. The care staff have been amazing and my friend's condition has improved dramatically. When I visit my friend she always looks spotless and well dressed. My friend is always wearing her jewellery
which was always so important to her. The manager at Hylands House is very professional and the way she has managed the covid-19 epidemic and to our amazement has managed to keep the residents and staff safe during this difficult time. Our heartfelt thanks go to the staff at Hylands House.

Following a week in hospital my aunt was admitted to Hylands House initially for assessment to ascertain the level of care required. It was decided that she required 24-hour care and therefore it was recommended that I should accept the place offered at Hylands House. I am extremely satisfied with the
care she has received during the 9 months there. Prior to this she was having limited hours of care at her home and after settling down at Hylands, having the company of other residents and a good standard of care from staff is good for her and have noticed that she now looks much better. I am only able to visit her approximately once a month due to living 150 miles away, but when we visit, we have always been warmly welcomed by all staff. They always keep me updated with any issues that may have arisen. I am also invited to have a telephone review with the manager on a regular basis, which is good for me due to the distance involved. Thank you all for your kindness.

From my very first contact with the manager and the team at Hylands House Care, I was impressed with the level of service, professionalism and positivity. When my Mum arrived at Hylands House she received the best possible care and the team did everything they could to welcome my Mum and make her comfortable.
They also swiftly and efficiently took over the various medical tasks associated with my Mum moving to Hylands from outside Warwickshire. We were kept fully informed of Mum's condition and status in a positive but realistic manner and I feel the team went out of their way to help. Unfortunately, my Mum's stay in Hylands was a short one, but I am sure she would have been happy and comfortable there and well looked after. On behalf of my brothers and sisters I would fully recommend Hylands House and the manager and her team.

The last 6 months have been rather turbulent with Covid and one thing and another. Dad became a resident at Hylands House back in March, he was recovering from Covid. All of the Hylands' family have made Dad feel like part of the family, they have given Dad a quality of life I thought may not be possible
again, his well being and health due to their loving care and attention is constantly improving, thank you to all of you.

Our family is very pleased with the high level of care provided at Hylands. Mum is happy and content and could not be in a better place. The staff and management work hard yet are always upbeat and treat residents with great dignity. I am unable to rate activities at the moment as due to Covid restrictions
this year, families have been unable to take part. Prior to this, there was always a good programme of activities.
It is commendable that Hylands went into lockdown early in 2020, and with careful management and staff vigilance, there have been no Covid deaths.
Thank you to everyone for all that you do.

The communication I’ve had from staff has been outstanding and been wonderful at facilitating contact between my father and I due to the Covid 19 restrictions. I hope soon I will be able to visit and give a more detailed opinion when I can visit my father in the care setting. It’s difficult to give
any opinion on standards without seeing the home.

It has been a difficult year but Mum's carers and other members of staff have kept me up to date with her progress by email and photos. All staff are very quick to get back to me whenever I've made a request. I feel we are working as a team for the best interests of Mum, who has severe dementia, with
all the additional mental health difficulty this brings. I'm very pleased she's in a small home with staff who are well known to her and to me. And that these kindnesses are done as a matter of course.

We had to make a difficult decision for mum to go into a care home recently, but the staff at Hylands House have made her transition so much easier.
The care manager was so welcoming from our first meeting and has provided reassurance, advice and genuine care since then.
The staff are kind, friendly
and caring and I’m sure this is why mum has settled in so well. The communication is excellent and they go out of their way to make sure we are reassured during this difficult time of lockdown. I would like to thank all of the staff for their kindness and for looking after mum. I hope she continues to feel at home there.

Hylands House has provided great care and with the restrictions of covid 19 has coped very well with this. The level of communication is of a high standard and I am always kept well up to date on any changes and/or needs of my family member. Although it would be nice if the gardens were opened up for
visits within government guidelines on social distancing.
Reply from Shelley Sheasby, Manager at Hylands House Care HomeDear Pauline, thank you so much for your feedback. We have now opened up the garden and are doing visits whilst maintaining social distancing guidelines. Please call the office to book in a visiting time.

My father was assessed for his suitability for becoming a resident at Hylands House in mid-March 2020. He had Alzheimer's, we were told that Hylands House was an appropriate home for him. We were assured he could stay until the end of his days and that some places would not offer this, but they did.
After only 2 months, we got a call to say that he needed to move as it was an unsuitable home for him! We had to move him in the midst of the Coronavirus lockdown, an extremely traumatic event for us and obviously for him. Three weeks later he died in June 2020. I am furious that Hylands House did not guide us appropriately, we were green to his needs. Their comment on his departure was, he needed a nursing home, not a care home, his health at this stage had not deteriorated, but his Alzheimer's did affect his behaviour as is common. Why did they take him post assessment?
Reply from Michelle Sheasby, Home Manager at Hylands House Care HomeWe are sorry for your loss and offer our sincere condolences. At Hylands House we do promote our small care home for individuals to spend the rest of their days with us, however, in some circumstances, this is not in the individual’s best interests. This is mainly due to the needs and behaviours increasing to a level which cannot be met in a residential dementia care home setting. We do not take any decision lightly to move a resident on to another care home and this is only initiated after other avenues of support have been sought, such as working with the multi-disciplinary team. In this circumstance as you are aware, we made every effort for your father to stay with us at Hylands House and his GP was also involved with his care. Unfortunately, even with this added support, due to behaviours of concern the decision was made that we could no longer meet the needs of your father and it was in his best interests to be moved to a suitable care home where he would receive the level of care.

When I enter the home once a week to see my best friend, I'm always made very welcome, staff always seem happy. They always have time for a chat about how my friend is and things in general. They keep the place very clean and tidy and all the residents seem happy too. My friend tells me she is very
happy to be there and she looks well cared for.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.722)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.722) out of 10 for Hylands House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.722 for Hylands House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (171 Excellents x 5) + (49 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 227 Ratings = 4.722
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hylands House Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 21 registered maximum number of service users is 4.2, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
