Staff were very patient and kind and always went out their way to have a laugh and a joke with my dad which he really enjoyed.
Not just the carers but other staff (cleaners, maintenance, activities coordinator) all took them time to make a fuss of him and make him feel at home.
The careworkers go above and beyond and gave us lots of support on the days leading up to his passing. The staff gave us lots of privacy, reassurance and showed us so much kindness. We thank you all for everything you did for Sean.
Heidi, thank you very much for your kind words. Both your mum and dad, are being missed by us all, as they were such a noticeable part of our community. Your mum's personality and interaction with the team were an integral part of her visits with your dad and us too. We will miss them.
I can honestly say that I have found the team at Riverdale to be the loveliest, kindest and down to earth people I have ever met. My Mum was transferred to Riverdale, not for dementia care, but for end of life care when she was dying from cancer. She was only at the home for a month but the staff ensured that month was the best it could possibly be for her and they also looked after me as well. Mum died peacefully, with me holding her hand, on the 22nd of November 2025. Thank you Riverdale for everything you have done, for putting your arms around my Mum and me and never letting go until the end. I couldn't have done it without you all.
Thank-you for your lovely kind words Angie. It was a privilege to look after your lovely mum, at this most important time in her life. Carol was witty and endearing to us all to the very end...we are glad you chose us too for these final steps in her journey. We make it our mission to provide as...
Brilliant care home, the people who work there are exceptional, nothing is to much trouble, it's like home from home, everyone is so kind and happy. The care company should be proud of the staff that work there.
I will also make sure I pass on your comments to the whole team so that they are aware of how we are supporting you as well as your wife, this recognition goes along way to making them feel valued and appreciated in their difficult roles.
Riverdale Care Home provides an excellent, professional, caring and joyful service at all times. The team clearly care about every resident and their family. The expertise, knowledge and understanding they show is flawless and impeccable. Every team member we have encountered have displayed the above qualities. Our relative is extremely happy at Riverdale and we are so pleased and delighted to have found a marvellous, first class care home. We can't express our gratitude and thanks enough to all the team. Thank you.
Thank-you very much for your kind words, they mean a great deal to the team who work hard to ensure all the people they care for are happy and receive the care they deserve. We hope you continue to feel this way about Riverdale when you visit your mum, and also continue to join in our activities and events with her.
If you are looking for a care home for your loved ones in Chesterfield I recommend Riverdale. I have been in other care homes Riverdale is the best one.
Thank you for your very kind words! We are striving very hard to make Riverdale the very best it can be for everyone who lives here and very much welcome the support from all families and friends. As a team we look forward to making more positive memories for you.
The new staff and new management team are great. The place is immaculately clean now and most importantly my Dad is well taken care of. The home manager will always make time for me if I have any queries.
There are always lots of activities for the residents and you are made to feel welcome by the staff when you visit your loved ones.
Thank you very much for your kind words. We have worked extremely hard as a whole new team to come together at Riverdale. Our open and friendly approach, as well as our ever growing activities programme, is focused on delivering a high standard of person centred care and we are very pleased to see...
Every time we visited we were also made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for any of the team members.
When mum passed away she was treated with dignity and was never left alone.
Riverdale truly felt as if it was mums own home and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone needing to find a care home for their loved one.
I was pleased to hear about their plans to introduce new activities and I met the new activities leader.
There has been a big improvement in my husband's care over the past 12 months owing to the positive changes the new management has driven forward.
All staff are amazing and give a good standard of care to all residents. Good recreation and activities are available. Recent improvement in good communication and involvement in care for relatives is fantastic. I can't thank everyone enough for the care of Mum, it puts my mind at ease that she is so well looked after and her best interests are taken care of when she is now unable to do these things for herself. Many, many thanks.
The home provides a holistic approach to the care they provide. There is always a friendly atmosphere with plenty of activities to join in with. The staff are lovely and very approachable. There is good communication between the management team and us and any problems or concerns are dealt with quickly and efficiently. It's always a pleasure to visit my grandma at Riverdale. We would highly recommend every aspect of life there.
Thank you for your most welcome review it is lovely to receive such a review.
All staff do their best.
In my experience, I feel Riverdale Care Home looked after my mum with great care.
The care my mother receives is excellent. The staff encourage all the residents to participate in the programme of activities. They appreciate the care she requires and treat all the residents with respect.
Thank you for taking the time to submit a review, it is a pleasure to support your mum.
Lovely caring staff and management are always there to listen and help and I am kept informed of any issues promptly. Mum's individual needs are catered for e.g. washing clothes in her own powder. The residents are entertained on a very regular basis by lovely activity coordinators. Birthdays and special occasions are celebrated and the residents are all made to feel special and at home. The home has recently been renovated inside making a clean, fresh and modern home for everyone to enjoy. Thank you everyone at Riverdale!
Thank you so much for your support. We will make sure that the relevant people are informed as your comments make a big difference to them.
The staff are caring and very friendly. The food always looks good.
The home is always clean and everyone is so pleasant and nothing ever seems too much.
Friendly staff and informative, although some more informative than others. The resident I was visiting has also said they are friendly and care for them well. Overall, pleased with the care home.
Dear Emma, thank you for your review. Please feel free to come and see me if you have any concerns or questions regarding your grandparent. Kind Regards, Lynn
Friendly caring staff who go the extra mile to try to make life as pleasant as possible under what are sometimes very trying circumstances.
Kind Regards, Lynn Elliott
Dad is very happy here and very well cared for. When we visit, he is always happy, clean and tidy. The food is excellent as are all the staff.
It was a pleasure looking after your dad and getting to know him. He will be sadly missed by all the staff and residents at Riverdale.
Going into Riverdale care home in January 2020 was the best thing that could have happened to Dad for his own health and safety. We never want our loved one to have to leave their families, but this decision, hard as it was, was definitely the right one. The staff are very caring and friendly, and they have the residents best interests at heart. Dad is looking so much better since being in Riverdale, and he is eating really well now. We couldn't ask for better care and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Riverdale care home. Thank you for keeping our loved one safe in a year that has been so horrendous.
Hi Diane, Thank you for your review. Your dad is a very friendly and entertaining, He always joins in with our activities and adds to the atmosphere of the events. It’s a pleasure to have your dad in our home. I will pass your kind comments to all the team. Kind Regards, Lynn Elliot.

Meet the Team (1)

Hi! My name is Denise West, and I'm the Home Manager at Riverdale Care Home in Chesterfield. I qualified as a registered nurse in 1990 and have worked in the independent care of the elderly sector ever since.
I've worked as a nurse on nights, working my way through the ranks to be a Home Manager, Regional Manager, Regional Director and even a Managing Director. Following some personal bereavement in 2016, I tried to step away from the sector and do something completely different, but got drawn back into the role of Home Manager via some consultancy work. I love this role as it gives me the opportunity to work with the residents and their families at a much more personal level, and gives me the opportunity to implement my dementia care skills, as this is where my heart lies.
