My mum has been a resident of Riverdale since March this year, just before the first lockdown. In all of this time, I haven't been able to visit inside, so can't comment on some of the ratings. It has been a relief to me how well my mum has settled, and it is thanks to the management and staff. When
I speak to her, she always sats how well she is treated, and often tells me how good the food it. Thank you for everything you do. I will be so happy when we can visit properly, hopefully soon.

The staff are all very hard working and treat all the residents with care and kindness. Due to covid, I cannot visits as often as I would like to, but hopefully, this will improve. The home is spacious, clean and a calm place to live in and visit, and I am always made welcome with a cup of tea. I know
I could not have chosen a better care home for my brother.

My mum has been a resident in Riverdale for just over a year now as she has Alzheimer's. I was very apprehensive about her going into a care home and wondered how or if she would settle. However, although she has her "ups and downs" she has settled as well as she possibly could and is as comfortable
with the staff as she is her own family. All the staff treat her with kindness and care. They also seem a very stable and supportive team with a good manager who keeps family informed of any concerns. This review has been given during covid 19 and when I last spoke to the manager there were no cases in the home and the staff were pulling together and coping well. I am so thankful to all the staff at Riverdale for their hard work, under what must be very difficult circumstances, and the care they give to my mum and all the residents, with skill, kindness and good humour.

It was necessary to move my ageing parents into a care home in May 2019 due to their increasing inability to care for themselves. I visited several care homes in the Chesterfield area including Riverdale. I was impressed with the welcome that I received during my visit, the friendliness of the staff
and the positive and relaxed atmosphere in the care home. One of the main requirements that my parents had was for them to be together and Riverdale was able to provide two single rooms next to each other which was ideal. I have never regretted selecting Riverdale because my parents have been well cared for and well-fed in a safe environment by a friendly but professional team who genuinely care about their residents. Sadly my father passed away in October and the Riverdale team have been extremely supportive to my mother, my brother and myself during this painful period. Thank you for everything that you have done for my parents and continue to do for my mother.

Whenever I go and visit my grandma I found the staff very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very clean and have a pleasant smell. Grandmas room is always very clean and tidy. The only complaint I would have is that sometimes clothes and slippers go missing or grandma is wearing wrong clothes.

Very nice treatment, the food and the way the staff deal and treat patients, also the way they have fun and laughter with the patients they try their best to get them laughing as well as making sure that they settle down to try and get to sleep in the evenings.

My sister has only been here for a few hours and been told, even though she's not got dementia or treatment for it, the staff are going to treat her as if she's got dementia, she's only here for respite and the bedding isn't clean, I've taken photos. The shelf is too high in the toilet area and above
a so-called disabled toilet seat yet she's in a wheelchair and the safety leaves much to be desired. Will be reporting to CQC as I'm disgusted.

My Mum came into Riverdale 1st April for one month's respite care. When it was time to bring her home Mum wanted to stay longer, her choice. She has made friends and looks really well. Mum was getting depressed and now she is a lot more talkative and happier. Staff at Riverdale can't do enough for Mum,
really caring.

I cannot praise Riverdale Care Home enough for how they looked after my mum during the last few months of her life. All the staff are caring and kind with a genuine interest in the welfare of all of their residents. They are very good at keeping relatives of residents informed on all aspects of ongoings
in the care home.
My mother moved into Riverdale after previously being a resident at another care home and I can honestly say that Riverdale is a cut above the rest with regards to all aspects of care. Moving a relative into a care facility can be a very stressful, hard and upsetting experience but all the staff at Riverdale did everything they could to make my mum's move as smooth and easy as possible. During my mum's final days the care home the staff could have not done anymore to help my mum and myself, they genuinely felt like they were part of our family. The staff bent over backwards for us and I honestly cannot thank them enough, I couldn't have got through this without them.

My mother-in-law has now settled in well and is enjoying the activities especially the ones that include singing. I have accompanied her on a couple of the coach trips which have been a safe way of getting out and about and a great way to spend time with her. We have been to the shopping centre and
have been well supported by home and the driver.

Riverdale provides a very good care for residents by locally based staff.
Mum has been at the home over 7 years and despite changes in ownership and management she has been well cared for.

Brilliant, fantastic, my aunt is very well cared for and I am so happy with the care and everything.
The staff are now working together and it's a happy home.
Just a very small niggle, is sometimes it's difficult to get through in the phone.

My aunt, a sometimes difficult and complex lady was treated with extreme kindness and care. When she was ill, the staff were remarkable to my aunt and also to myself.

Job Title: Home Manager

Hi! My name is Denise West, and I'm the Home Manager at Riverdale Care Home in Chesterfield. I qualified as a registered nurse in 1990 and have worked in the independent care of the elderly sector ever since.


I've worked as a nurse on nights, working my way through the ranks to be a Home Manager, Regional Manager, Regional Director and even a Managing Director. Following some personal bereavement in 2016, I tried to step away from the sector and do something completely different, but got drawn back into the role of Home Manager via some consultancy work. I love this role as it gives me the opportunity to work with the residents and their families at a much more personal level, and gives me the opportunity to implement my dementia care skills, as this is where my heart lies.
