9.3 Group Review Score (the average from all locations with a review score)
  • Care Homes Owned by Orchard Care Homes
Since 1984, Orchard Care Homes have provided award-winning purpose-built care accommodation, allowing older people to enjoy the very best. Those who felt isolated in their own home gain companionship; those who were struggling to cope alone receive 24-hour help and support; and others who may have felt like they were a burden can find themselves much more independent.

The group look to go beyond the ‘National Standards for Care Homes for Older People’ caring about every detail of residents’ lives including health, diet, exercise, hobbies and social activities. Their aim is to ensure that all residents continue enjoying life, receiving the very highest standard of care. The company has recently achieved the prestigious Investors in People Award in recognition of excellent staff training.

Orchard can help you choose a care home for yourself or a relative, and they also provide important information for those looking to work in care. They are delighted to accept both local authority and private funded residents.

If you are looking for a care home in Northern England why not visit one of their care homes yourself and see what they offer? Please call them to arrange a time that’s convenient for you.

Thornton Hall & Lodge Care Home

Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5
My grandad was a resident in this care home until he fell and had a bleed to the brain due to imcompetent care staff. Not enough staff and even less staff at weekends. All his belongings and personal items went missing even tho they were labelled. We moved him to a nice home in southport but he later
died due to his fall at thornton hall. Manager was very rude. Do not recommend .
Reply from Michelle Duvall, Regional Operations Manager at Thornton Hall & Lodge Care HomeThank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we value your feedback and assure you that we take this very seriously. The safety, comfort and wellbeing of all residents here at Thornton Hall and Lodge is of paramount importance to us. I can honestly say that I have found the team at Riverdale to be the loveliest, kindest and down to earth people I have ever met. My Mum was transferred to Riverdale, not for dementia care, but for end of life care when she was dying from cancer. She was only at the home for a month but the staff ensured
that month was the best it could possibly be for her and they also looked after me as well. Mum died peacefully, with me holding her hand, on the 22nd of November 2025. Thank you Riverdale for everything you have done, for putting your arms around my Mum and me and never letting go until the end. I couldn't have done it without you all.
Reply from Michelle Rose, Manager at Riverdale Care HomeThank-you for your lovely kind words Angie. It was a privilege to look after your lovely mum, at this most important time in her life. Carol was witty and endearing to us all to the very end...we are glad you chose us too for these final steps in her journey. We make it our mission to provide as much care and attention to families at this difficult time, to ensure you have as little stress as possible. We hope you are keeping well yourself, and send our deepest condolences to you and your extended family once again.

Middleton Park Lodge Nursing Home

Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
Our mother was in the care of Middleton Park Lodge Home for approximately a year. Even though it took Mum some time to settle in, which was upsetting at times, the staff were very patient and understanding of her needs and how she felt. It was very obvious to myself and my siblings that eventually
she trusted the staff and had her particular favourites. Despite the staff being very busy at times with other residents, they still found the time to spend time with Mum when she was anxious. Often allowing her to spend time in the nurses' office to 'help' them. I'd go so far to say Mum was loved by many of the nurses/carers and that was shown in her final days where Mum was shown care and dignity until she left us. We were shown the same respect and kindness in the final hours of her life and nothing was too much to enable us to stay by her bedside 24/7.
Reply from Suzanne Mckie, Peripatetic Manager at Middleton Park Lodge Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to share your review of Middleton Park Lodge. It was an honour to provide the care and support your mum needed during her final year. We deeply appreciate your trust in our team and remain committed to supporting families with compassion and dignity.

The nursing and palliative care given to my mum in the last days of her life was absolutely astounding.
My wife worked on the MacMillan ward for 10 years and said the care and compassion given to my mum, myself and our family at the most difficult time of our lives by the staff at Castleford Lodge
was second to none.
No amount of words can express the gratitude and love we feel for the team. They work so hard and always provided a high level of care . We are forever indebted to you. Thank you .

It's been over a year now for mother. I like the friendliness of the staff, really nice. Mother has started to integrate, after some hiccups. But overall, a really good experience. It helps that I'm confident in her care and carers. Thank you all.

My mother has vascular dementia and I can honestly say I have not had any concerns with regard her care at Lofthouse Grange and Lodge. The carer staff are very attentive and seem to be aware of each of the residents failings. There are also two dedicated entertainment staff who keep the residents occupied
with various activities and they also seem to bring in outside entertainers and have singalongs with the residents who all enjoy this.
Reply from Krzysztof Bialczyk, Home Manager at Lofthouse Grange & Lodge Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share your kind words about the care your mother receives at Lofthouse Grange and Lodge. We are delighted to hear that you have had no concerns and that our carer staff have been attentive and aware of each resident's individual needs.
We are also pleased that you value the work of our dedicated activities team. Providing meaningful engagement, entertainment, and opportunities for social interaction is an important part of supporting our residents' wellbeing, and it is wonderful to know that your mother enjoys the singalongs and visiting entertainers.
