Nesfield Lodge is a friendly and familiar home located close to Leeds, that is setting standards across the Orchard group.

The home has seen its staff recognised in internal awards and is one of the pioneering homes that are part of the HenPower hen-keeping programme.

HenPower is an inspiring project linking older people with hens to combat social isolation and it is supported by older people’s charity Equal Arts. Combining hen keeping with hen-related arts activities, there has been a positive impact from the hens’ presence, giving additional focus and activity to many of the residents in the home.

The home has en-suite rooms, all decorated to high standards, with modern furnishings and fittings. A bright, communal lounge gives direct access to the garden, while a quiet reminiscence room, decorated in a 1940s theme, allows for more contemplative time.

There is a strong relationship with local schools and community groups, ensuring the residents are as active and engaged as possible, with an activity coordinator in the home who leads a varied and daily changing programme of events and one to one activity.

The home is well run and cares well for its residents. I would have liked staff to introduce themseves in passing on the first day but have already mentioned this. They are very attentive, responding to changing needs and the vagaries of dementia with kindness and good humour.

Since my mum has moved in to her new home at Nesfield Lodge I can see she has thrived. She took time to settle but this can be normal for someone with alzheimers. The staff are exceptional and I never worry about her because I know she is on good hands.
The activities that are organised are fun and
engaging and I love seeing this on their Facebook page.
When I visit mum I always leave with a smile on my face.

I would like to give a big shoutout to staff involved in making my family's visit to my mum today to celebrate her 90th birthday such a lovely experience. To totally rearrange my mums room so all 7 of us plus mum could sit together so as to spend some of this precious time in comfort with her was wonderful.
Also the addition of the happy birthday posters and the tea and biscuits offered to us all during our visit was again a lovely touch .

Thank you

I visited my mother-in-law today at Nesfield Lodge and joined in the karaoke afternoon. She arrived on Wednesday, so this was a first for both of us. It was a truly joyful experience. Watching the staff engage with the residents was wonderful. Watching the residents engage with the music and sing was
very touching. Every member of staff I spoke to was very kind and made me feel welcome and very confident about her being there.
The staff singing on the karaoke were really good and made a fantastic afternoon's entertainment. Well done team.

My friend has been a resident here for a few months and I generally visit him weekly for a couple of hours.
No matter what day or time I arrive, I can get parked and receive a very warm welcome with offer of any help.
His room is private, comfortable and spacious.
He compliments the food and looks
well nourished with a healthy look.
He is always dressed well and very clean, and most importantly he is happy.
There is lots of entertainment on offer and fun things taking place.
Everyone is well seen to and have all they need.
The place is spotless, fresh smelling and good atmosphere.
As for all the staff - brilliant! friendly, available, attentive, professional and very helpful !! Nothing is ever too much.
It's run like clockwork and everyone is busy in a silent, seamless, stressless way - things just get done with little noise and disruption.
I hope I receive this level of care if and whenever I may need it.
Thanks for looking after my friend and all the others!!

Whilst visiting Mum today, I noticed all the Olympic stuff around the home, and I just have to say how wonderful the staff are and how inclusive they are with everything going on in the world. I know the manager is only with us temporarily, but she has been a brilliant asset to the home, and I wish
she could stay permanently.

My mum has been at Nesfield Lodge since 2017 and, although she is declining, is still well looked after by the staff. I would like to add that the manager has been a fantastic addition to the home and has been a brilliant manager with other staff in full support of her. It will be a great shame when
the manager's time at Nesfield comes to an end in August. I wish her luck for the future - Orchard - make sure you don't lose her, she is a great asset. The home is looking a little bit 'tired' but there does appear to be some sprucing up going on.

My husband enjoyed his time in the home.

Thank you Nesfield for caring for him and making him feel so cared for and welcome.

Staff always helpful. A job that is not easy sometimes but the staff do incredibly well. A relaxed atmosphere and very welcoming. A range of activities is provided by the staff. Staff try to cater for residents' needs in somewhat difficult circumstances sometimes. Helping people with dementia is not
easy. Everything they do for my mum is very much appreciated.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.836)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.836) out of 10 for Nesfield Lodge Dementia Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.861 for Nesfield Lodge Dementia Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (202 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 231 Ratings = 4.861
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Nesfield Lodge Dementia Care Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
