Nesfield Lodge is a friendly and familiar home located close to Leeds, that is setting standards across the Orchard group.

The home has seen its staff recognised in internal awards and is one of the pioneering homes that are part of the HenPower hen-keeping programme.

HenPower is an inspiring project linking older people with hens to combat social isolation and it is supported by older people’s charity Equal Arts. Combining hen keeping with hen-related arts activities, there has been a positive impact from the hens’ presence, giving additional focus and activity to many of the residents in the home.

The home has en-suite rooms, all decorated to high standards, with modern furnishings and fittings. A bright, communal lounge gives direct access to the garden, while a quiet reminiscence room, decorated in a 1940s theme, allows for more contemplative time.

There is a strong relationship with local schools and community groups, ensuring the residents are as active and engaged as possible, with an activity coordinator in the home who leads a varied and daily changing programme of events and one to one activity.

The staff are all very friendly and obviously my mother is very happy with the care she receives. She likes the music sessions and loves singing along with the other residents. The food is good quality and coffee, tea and biscuits are supplied regularly.

Always a lovely welcome from all members of staff. Any queries or concerns are swiftly dealt with. Mum always seems happy, clean and well cared for. Mum recently had a short stay in hospital and I was kept fully informed at all times day and night and can only extend my gratitude for this. Residents
are treated as family and this shines through at every visit. Would highly recommend Nesfield.
Reply from Nesfield Lodge, Home Manager at Nesfield Lodge Dementia Care HomeThank you Sandra for your kind words about Nesfield Lodge and the way that you see the home and how the staff are welcoming and attentive to keeping you informed. I will pass this on to all the staff in the home.

Where do I start - Our mam was put on a safeguarding ring due to neglect from this home. We've had 2 meetings with all professionals due to lies, neglect and the state of the place. Day 1 staff made it unpleasant for our mothers 1st day and family. Week 1 interim manager and deputy manager informed
family and social workers our mam had attacked someone. Turned out to be a lie.
Food - undercooked food after 12 weeks still not right and the manager had to take pictures from family on how to cook our mam's 'go to meal' as kitchen staff sent out shocking food.
The place was filthy and we recorded wiping her room out and I presented the filth at the 2nd meeting at the council offices.
Mam dressed in wrong clothes and then back to front/inside out - witnessed by intensive team.
Loads more and pictures/videos to back this up. After 12 weeks we got the dreaded call she had fallen and is now in hospital with a broken hip.
Avoid this place - the investigation is ongoing and papers involved.

I was recommended Nesfield Lodge by my father's social worker. I was in need of a week's respite from my 24/7 caring role and was advised that the home is particularly suited to dementia sufferers. I arranged a visit and found the staff to be very attentive and caring. They genuinely seemed to care
for their residents and my decision was swayed when one of the residents told me that she used to be a carer herself in the home and now lived there - definitely a great recommendation. The home even has a pet chicken in the garden. It is bright and welcoming but its main asset is its staff and management.

Throughout this difficult time during COVID-19 and not being able to see my mother I have been at ease knowing she is getting all the care she needs. They have done so much to keep the residents occupied and safe. I cannot thank them all enough for what must be very hard work and risking their own health
to care for everyone. The staff really deserve a lot of credit. Thank you.

My mum was at Nesfield Lodge for two and a half years and passed away on the 4th of March 2020. I am writing this last review to pay tribute to the outstanding staff who cared for Mum during her time at Nesfield Lodge.
I can honestly say that in Mum's time at Nesfield, I did not have a single fault
to find with the level of care and compassion shown to Mum and indeed to every resident. The staff at Nesfield treat residents with dignity, and as individuals and their care and happiness is a priority for each and every member of staff.
My mum was my whole world, and she deserved the best of everything - she found it at Nesfield Lodge. There are no words to express the level of gratitude I have for the amazing people who have become dear friends.

My husband went for respite for a couple of times since his diagnosis of dementia in February 2019. The place is clean and staff are so caring. He has been looked after so well, that the next time he goes for respite again, I don't have to worry about him. I would definitely recommend Nesfield Lodge.

After being forced to move my mother to a new care home, we chose Nesfield Lodge which we had seen the first time around but they had no space at that time. Mum's move there was smooth.
The staff were all friendly and kind and very supportive of both my mother, myself and my sister. This continued
throughout her time there and during and after her sad death. I can't thank them enough.

My mother has been a resident at Nesfield Lodge since 16th January 2018. I personally chose Nesfield after visits to other homes, as in my opinion, she was more suited to it, due to the overall, warm welcome, the initial appearance, friendly staff and local location.
I feel my mother is content in
Nesfield Lodge. It is, in abundance, happiness and inspiration.

My experience with Nesfield Lodge has been nothing less than exceptional! The care given to my sister for the past three years has been excellent. The sign outside the office which reads 'Our residents do not live in our place of work. We work in their home', well said!! My sister considers Nesfield
Lodge as home and she is treated likewise. From the head management down, the staff treat the residents as if they were family. I live 3 thousand miles away and I'm very happy my sister is where she is.

Dad was in Nesfield Lodge for over two years. We found staff lovely, caring and friendly. They work hard and care for all the residents to a high standard. Dad has dementia and can be challenging but the staff were always great with him. He always looked smart and clean and loved the garden and hens.
He would still be there now if he hadn't of fallen and broke his hip whilst in hospital. We would recommend Nesfield Lodge to anybody needing a care home.

The staff at Nesfield Lodge are caring, compassionate and proactive. They will insist on what is right and necessary for residents from community nursing teams and Gp's. Our relative was safe in their care. However, there were significant constraints when community services were required and when non-prescription
treatments were required as they were unavailable- need urgent review.
Reply from Kimberley Hardy, Care Home Manager at Nesfield Lodge Dementia Care HomeThank you for taking the time to leave a positive review for the care your father received. We are sympathetic to the challenges around care provision from community services and this has been raised further.

Whenever I visit the home I receive a friendly welcome from all staff - information given is required regarding residents, staff always helpful and treat all residents equally, unless resident isn't in the right mood. He is always well dressed and looking smart, clean clothes, sometimes wearing a tie,
laundry service is very good - items usually hung in the wardrobe. Food and variety of food really good. Help given again if required, not pushed or forced to eat of they don't want it. Dining and lounge area clean and comfortable - looking very smart after the decorating, individual rooms excellent.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.836)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.836) out of 10 for Nesfield Lodge Dementia Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.861 for Nesfield Lodge Dementia Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (202 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 231 Ratings = 4.861
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Nesfield Lodge Dementia Care Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
