Overall Experience

My mother-in-law was a resident at Watford House for the last four years. During that time the care she received was excellent, the staff were always welcoming when we visited, she was always clean and well-dressed and we always felt happy that she was comfortable. The home itself is clean and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Watford House is an excellent care home.

I have been very happy with the care my friend has received. Although he was reluctant at first, the staff were caring and friendly, and he soon felt at home. On many of my visits, there were activities going on, and he joined in happily. The staff always made me and my family welcome.

My mum has been at Watford House since November 2019. During this time I have had no problems with the care she has received. All the staff have always been very helpful and been welcoming when both my dad and I have visited. Mum always seems very happy and content when we visit.
The communication has been good with prompt phone calls to me when Mum has been poorly and if I have had questions these have been dealt with in a timely manner via phone conversation or email.

The above leads me to believe my mum is getting the correct care and attention that she needs at Watford House. I also appreciate the efforts that the management and staff have put into the service and care over the last two years in keeping Watford House and residents as safe as possible during Covid-19 restrictions.

Thank you for your lovely comments. I must say that I don't believe that there is a dry eye in the house when your mum and dad have a visit, they are both a pleasure to know!

The staff are amazing. They look after my dad so well. It has been unfortunate that his time here has been in Covid. They have been marvellous at letting family visit and take out the residents when it was safe to do so. I know my dad would love the staff to organise more outings in the summer (Covid allowing). He really enjoyed his trip to Buxton last year.

Reply from Carinna Mycock, Manager at Watford House

Thank you, our plan is to have many more trips out in the summer months and to be able to invite you and your families in for some great celebrations.

Very happy with Nana's care. She seems very happy here. I am very impressed with all the staff and how they make this home warm and welcoming. Best Covid-19 precautions I have seen in a care home.

We have been pleased with overall care and the staff are really caring and have a great deal of empathy towards residents. The only issue is that clothing gets lost and mixed up and other personal items too. We understand that this happens in many other care homes too. We are very happy with the standard of care given.

Reply from Carinna Mycock, Manager at Watford House

Thank you for this lovely review, we do endeavour to solve the laundry issue with a more robust system very soon.

We come to visit every week and Dad always looks lovely, clean and well presented. His room is always clean and tidy, staff are always friendly and welcoming. We have no problems booking in to see Dad and can take him out when we want to. Dad always talks about everyone and seems to enjoy taking part in the activities.

During my working life, I have had cause to visit many nursing homes. Some I wouldn't recommend and have given me cause for concern. As soon as you enter Watford House, you can feel the staff are dedicated to their profession. Love and care are in abundance, making the residents feeling loved.

Very good care home with excellent staff. Would like to have access to a room when visiting my wife instead of her bedroom. The secure garden area is good, but the plants and flower areas are rather tired! Overall, a happy care home.

Reply from Carinna Mycock, Manager at Watford House

Thank you, Noel, for your review. We fully intend to open the home up to visiting in the communal areas as soon as it is safe to do so and the Covid-19 guidance allows us. The Gardens are currently in the process of rejuvenation, and we have a new gardener with big plans for the spring, which I do hope that you will enjoy.

Review from Wendy P (Sister of Resident) published on 14 October 2021 Submitted via Postal Card

I believe that you can judge the quality of the management of an establishment or organisation by the behaviour of its staff. Having spent many hours sitting with my sister in the lounges, it is clear that there is a healthy and pleasant interface between all members of staff, and this extends to their relationship with the residents. This gives me great comfort in placing my sister's care in their hands. It also appears to extend to their attitude towards relatives, which makes visiting a pleasure.

My father became a resident in July last year, the staff have been fantastic and done their utmost to enable visits and keep him safe during this difficult time. We can now visit in a special room with a glass divider and can also keep in touch by video call. The staff are so friendly and I cannot praise them enough for the amazing job they do.
