Visiting

  • Visitors are asked to call at least 30 minutes before arriving to let staff know when they plan to visit. This helps ensure the resident they are visiting is available and not away on a trip, with other visitors, or at an appointment.

They should be aware that visits can no longer take place in communal lounge areas. This change is to protect residents’ privacy and to keep walkways clear throughout the day. All visits must take place either in the resident’s bedroom or in alternative areas such as the dining room (outside of meal times) or the tea room.

Visitors are encouraged to understand that the home is busy, so calling ahead, avoiding visit times during lunch, and keeping visits to appropriate rooms helps the home run smoothly. They are welcome to book lunch with the home or take their relative out any day of the week.

Upon arrival, visitors must sign in using the iPad in the foyer, providing accurate details of who they are visiting. This information is essential so staff can locate them quickly in the event of a fire. Visitors must also sign out when leaving.

Parking

  • Parking can be found in the Main Front Car Park (6 spaces) or round the Rear Entrance (staff are able to guide you to this). You may also park on Bell Lane, please however do not park on bends/corners where 'No Parking' signs are clearly stated.

My cousin entered Brook House for full 24-hour care in 2012. I had no idea how it might turn out given that she had recently fallen and broken her hip. I should not have worried. For the next 7 years, the staff at the care home looked after her as if she were one of the family. I could not have asked
for more. I had always worried about having to seek the best way of ensuring that she had a good quality of life to look forward to despite her dementia. At every level, she was well catered for. The most satisfying element of her time at Brook House was that the dedicated and committed members of staff (mostly long-serving) unfailingly ensured that she had something to look forward to each day. Even when she became unwell.
I can't thank too much the carers who, for a number of years, became her new extended family and made her smile and laugh so much.
Thank you, again, Brook House for everything you did for her.

My aunt passed away in December 2019; having spent the last three years of her life at Brook House. In every respect, I firmly believe that it would have been hard to find a better care home for her. She was not diagnosed as a dementia sufferer, and she chose Brook House over the many others that we
looked at. It had a homely feel. Having visited her just about every day, I feel that I am in a position to truthfully assess the care she received, the accommodation and related facilities, the food and access to professional medical individuals. My aunt never suffered fools gladly, and every staff member that I came into contact with, all treated her with dignity and respect. She had some favourites of course and enjoyed a laugh. Whenever there were any medical issues or emergencies, I was always contacted and kept informed. Although she latterly ate like a sparrow, she often told people 'on the outside' that the food provided was excellent and her room was first-class.

My family and I would not hesitate to recommend Brook House. The management and staff could not be more accommodating, and frequently went out of their way to go above and beyond our expectations. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and my mum loved being there throughout her stay.

When my mother arrived at Brook House aged 98 she was a confused old woman who had given up- she felt she had lived long enough. The love and care of the staff reawakened her interest in life. She began to take an interest in food visits and activities. UTI’s were promptly treated and her confusion
diminished.
She felt loved and cared for and was rarely without a smile. She enjoyed her independence within the home and if she came to grief being adventurous with her walker she was skilfully patched up to go on her merry way again. She died aged 101 enjoying life, safe, loved and well cared for.
I never had a worry about her care. Her adventures were celebrated. Her love of the occasional Prosecco at 10 in the morning or being taken to the park in a wheelchair only to get up and go on the swings!
My heartfelt thanks to everyone at Brook House for the kisses, caresses and the small kindnesses that gave my mother a good end to her life when she died surrounded by your love and care.

My mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 5 years ago. She remained at home for as long and as safely possible. She moved into Brook House 20 months ago. The manager and staff made her welcome and took the time to find out all about the lady that she used to be. She was cared for by the minimum of staff,
to ensure she bonded with and recognised her carers as friends. My father was warmly welcomed every day when he visited and was offered a free lunch every time. The care mum received was second to none and as she deteriorated the family was comforted in a kind, caring and compassionate way.
Sadly mum passed away while in their care. The staff cared for her in her last few days with such love that I cannot begin to thank them. I can honestly say if anyone needs to place a loved one with dementia in residential care, Brook House may not be the smartest but it provides the best care I have ever seen.
I and the whole family would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

My mother lived at Brook house for 7 years, her dementia steadily progressed until she sadly passed away in April this year. I cannot thank the Manager and her team enough for the excellent care and love they gave my mum. The kindness and support they gave to the family in mums final days was tremendous.
She
is a amazing manager, she is so dedicated and I was so reassured that mum was being well cared for at all times.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.913)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.913) out of 10 for Brook House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.938 for Brook House is calculated as follows: ( (213 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 227 Ratings = 4.938
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Brook House is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
