There is never enough staff to deal with all the residents.

I don't know if he is getting enough to eat and help with his food (2 stone lost).

They never listen to my complaints about laundry, all his socks, pants and pyjamas go missing. When I see him he has other people's pants on.

He never looks clean and wholesome.

Reply from Rachel and Laura, Manager at The Magnolia Care Home
The home has been under new management since May, who are working very hard to rectify any concerns raised. Management has an open door policy and deals with all complaints promptly.

We have recently had our CQC report rating as 'Good' and staffing levels were all in line for service users needs....

I used to live next door to a lady who is residing at Magnolia Care Home, she has been staying there for a long time now and every time I visit the staff cannot do enough for me and my friend. I am always welcomed with a big smile from the administrator. I’m always asked how I am and if I would like a drink. My friend's room is decorated to her likes and she is able to put whatever she likes on the wall which the handyman does for her. My friend's health has improved immensely since staying at Magnolia. I would recommend this home to anyone.

My experience as the wife of resident (who has passed away) had been very positive. The staff from senior management to the carers were very friendly, caring towards my husband. They all treated him with dignity and compassion. Nothing was too much for them. They welcomed my family, friends and myself with great affection. I appreciated the efforts constantly trying to do their best for us and everyone.

My sister recently diagnosed with mixed dementia has been a resident for the past three months. She has been kept clean, fed and treated with respect by all the staff. Even the cook showed concern when she started refusing food. Her bedroom has always been immaculate and the whole building is clean with no odd smells. We are always made to feel welcome and have appreciated having cups of tea with sister.

My mum was in this care home for a year before she passed away and she was very happy here. I couldn't fault the care she got so when my dad needed to go into a home, I had no worries about him coming here too. I can't speak highly enough of the staff here, they genuinely care about your loved ones.

Can't fault the home in any way. My father loves this places and never wants for anything. The food is mainly homemade and wholesome.

I'd like to think that when I'm old that I could be in a lovely place like this.

My aunt has been a resident at Aberry House since 2005 and in that time have given my aunt excellent care. I have over the years spoken to the owner as a friend. Also I'm deputy for my aunt and the court of protection have met me there and have been delighted with her care.

The staff in general were very caring towards my father and to for the staff I would highly recommend Aberry house-a big thanks to those staff. However, I would be very wary about costs in particular £250 extra per week for an 'enhanced' (a bay window and approx 1m x 3m bigger) and also the NHS contribution not being taken off the bill initially. Although these were both sorted out and we didn't pay any extra, I find it disturbing at best that a relative not realising their rights may pay and also that an organisation whose purpose is to 'care' wouldn't recognise this themselves.

My mum was transferred to Aberry House from another place when sadly her condition needed nursing care to make her comfortable in the last few days of her life. I cannot express how wonderful we found the staff and carers of Aberry House from the beginning and the end. Our mum was treated with dignity and respect. Our family was welcomed and treated us very kindly with sincere offers of hospitality. Thank you it made out grieving so much easier.

My mother-in-law has been a resident at Aberry House for 7 years. For 4 years she has been bed bound, needing nursing care. At all times she has been cared for in a manner maintaining her dignity and in a caring, compassionate way. Her changing needs have been met and as relatives we are alerted to any problems immediately. The care staff, many of whom have been there for the 6 years of her residency, are to be highly recommended on their caring, professional attitude.

My mother has been at Aberry for nearly 5 years and our family have been very satisfied with the way she is looked after. On entering the premises, they are always clean and tidy with very rarely bad smells. The staff are always very friendly and answer any questions you may have. My mothers bedroom and bathroom are always clean with the bed made.

Staff are extremely friendly and caring. Management seems good but could possibly improve communication as to what the home offers i.e. help with hospital visits, how prescriptions are dealt with, televisions in rooms, activities etc. Also the costs were a little vague on admission. Communication from staff is excellent, I'm always made aware of any problems. Overall I am very happy with the care offered and am sure my dad is very well looked after.

The staff are caring and competent. My mother has been a resident for over 8 years. During this time she has had a number of problems which have all been dealt with well and care and consideration. I have no worries about leaving her at Aberry House. It is a safe and happy environment where the staff think about individual needs.
