My mother has been a resident at Southfield House since Oct 2023. On the whole, I feel she has received satisfactory care and support during her time there. Most of the staff show compassion, sincere care and concern, patience and understanding. I have observed this during my visits.
Occasionally I
feel concerned that Mum's dignity is not always considered e.g. at 97, I don't like to see the hairstyles they give her as if she were a child! Also, laundry items seem to go astray until I chase them up! These issues are frustrating to a relative. It's a part of the whole picture so it needs mentioning.
Reply from Anna Jennings, On Behalf of The Team at Southfield HouseThank you for taking the time to write your review. We are sorry for your less than exceptional experience, that is below the standard of care we strive to give. Staff have resolved these issues with immediate effect, and we encourage any further feedback you may have.

All the staff are so kind and very helpful. Always approachable. They contact you if anything is wrong. Keeping informed if they are ill or need to go to hospital.
They are well looked after which is a blessing to know that they are safe too.

My dad has been here since October, I first came in early November as I didn't know he was here. Staff are always pleasant, welcoming and helpful. My dad's a different person since being in here, he is more settled, happier and starting to mix with others, which I have never seen before. I hope he gets
to stay here permanently. Thank you so much for making him happy and settled.

Visiting Southfield House, I always feel welcomed by the staff, who are devoted to their work, and caring to all the residents. I also notice the happiness in the resident, who has settled in his room, enjoying the food, which is so rewarding and appreciated. The weekly activities are a credit to the
organisers and would recommend Southfield House to everyone.

I continue to be pleased with the care and affection my father receives, he has been happy living at the home for around 18 months now.
When my mother passed away whilst living at the home last year, he, myself and the rest of his family were treated with care and compassion, that meant a lot to all
of us.
All of the staff strive to make the home a family home.
Thank you.

My aunt has dementia and needs full-time care. Due to her age and frailty, she needs more support than any family member can give.
The care she receives from Southfield House is wonderful. Her needs are always met in a dignified manner by the caring staff. Her room is well-decorated and clean. There
is a good social and activity calendar for the enjoyment of residents and their families.
The manager or senior carer are always available for a chat.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Southfield House to anyone.

We chose this care home for my mum because the staff were very friendly and welcoming from the time I knocked on the door and asked if I could have a look around. The home itself has a homely feel and is a lovely environment to live in. The standard of care is excellent and the staff take the time to
get to know all of the residents and their likes and dislikes. We are always made to feel welcome when we visit mum and they know all of us by name.

As a family, including my mum, we cannot praise the staff highly enough as they are always happy and nothing is too much trouble. When our daughter got married, a staff member accompanied mum to the wedding, which was very kind of her and meant so much to us as a family.

Mum enjoys lots of different activities which take place in the home, such as visiting musicians and performers together with regular craft and baking sessions. We are confident that mum is getting the best of care whilst living at Southfield House.

Staff are very friendly and caring. Feel like one of the family and make us very welcome. Quick to inform and keep us up to day with health and well-being. Know parent well - all staff. Phone calls and emails are answered. Room is comfortable, though not big, not outlook. Don't always hear about activities,
but can see things happen and nice to have photos. No worries.

My Mum went to this care home following a recuperative period in another home. The previous experience was not great. So, we approached this looking for somewhere small where Mum would count and somewhere that was a home and not an institution, and for anyone who has been to both, there is a vast
difference. This home is managed and staffed, by people who really do care about the residents. People who happily interact with all residents, always with a small, despite the pressures they sometimes endure. They treat them with care, and with great compassion. Since being with this great bunch of people, despite her condition deteriorating, Mum has flourished. She has company as and when it suits her. She is always gloating over the great meal she has just had and feels part of a world that cares, which is a very rare gift at 80. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this care home to anyone looking to place a parent in care, never an easy decision, but in our case, the best one.

In April 2020, my 101-year-old uncle was very fortunate to be given a room at Southfield House after spending nine weeks in hospital. The admission process was completely smooth, in spite of the restrictions in place at that time because of the pandemic. For the next 21-months, he thrived there under
the wonderful care and kindness of all the staff and carers. His health improved, he enjoyed the meals, was happy and felt safe and secure. Regular visits by a friend were permitted following all the Covid rules. Any questions I had regarding his care were always dealt with by phone and email in a courteous and helpful manner and, living many miles away, I received regular updates from all the staff. He passed away very peacefully this week at the age of 103, and the care and the kindness were given to him were outstanding to the end. I give my grateful thanks to everyone concerned and a 100% recommendation.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.565)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.565) out of 10 for Southfield House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.790 for Southfield House is calculated as follows: ( (119 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 143 Ratings = 4.79
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Southfield House is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4, which has been reached with 11 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Louise

Louise Needham

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2016

My name is Louise, and I am the Home Manager at Southfield House. I began working at Southfield House in April 2016, and I have been in multiple job roles during my time here at Southfield House and have worked my way up the ranks to become the Home Manager, but I have enjoyed each role I have performed here.

Before starting here at Southfield House, I worked within the Childcare sector, and then I worked in the community with elderly care.

I first became interested in pursuing a career in care when my mother looked after my Nan when she became unable to care for herself. I witnessed my mother care for my Nan until my Nan came to the end of her life. This inspired me to ensure that other individuals received the same loving care that my Nan did.

I enjoy working for OSJCT. There is always an opportunity to further your career; the Executives ensure that our residents receive the best care and that all staff are listened to. OSJCT believe in person-centred care, which is so important, and they also ensure that all employees are paid above the national minimum wage.

I love my job, working alongside fantastic people, and being part of our residents’ lives. To put a smile on someone’s face is the most rewarding thing you can do.

Lucy

Lucy Thorpe

Job Title: Activities Coordinator Joined: 2022

My name is Lucy, and I'm the Activities Coordinator at Southfield House, Spalding.

My previous career was as a paediatric nurse in the NHS. I left to bring up my children, and when the youngest started school, I wanted to return to a caring role, but in my local area, Southfield House was my first choice, as I had heard many lovely things about the home.

I have worked my way up at Southfield from a bank carer to a senior carer and night carer. During the pandemic, I left for a short time and returned to the NHS to deliver vaccines to vulnerable patients as a community nurse. I returned to the home after the pandemic as an activities coordinator in 2022, because the Trust is very welcoming, supportive and as a charity, the Trust reinvests to provide the best care for residents.

Furthermore, I was enthusiastic about the activities coordinator role, and the skills and experience I already have in caring to transfer to the role. I take my role as activities coordinator seriously as I am always striving to promote meaningful activities that are stimulating, fun and supportive for the residents.

There are so many ways to engage residents in these activities as everyone has different interests and abilities, no day is ever the same, and I am enjoying finding more ways for us to celebrate life together in our home community, and to connect with the wider community like recently taking part in Spalding flower parade which brought back so many lovely memories and was so much fun too.
