We would like to say a massive thank you for the care and support shown to our mother over the last two years at Southfield House. Through these difficult times, they looked after our mother with great care, especially through lockdown when we were unable to visit, we knew she was in safe hands. Our
mothers illness was quite testing at times but they cared for her like she was their own mother. Nothing was too much trouble. We always found the home extremely clean and the food was fabulous. The staff went above and beyond what was expected from them.

I have found all the members of staff I have talked to both on the phone and in-person to be very helpful and kind. The fact that Southfield House has remained Covid-19 free to date very reassuring and a credit to the manager and her dedicated team. On all the occasions when I have visited my mum I
have found her to be looking well and well cared for by the friendly staff in spite of these challenging 'Covid' times we are living with.

Our mother has been in Southfield House nearly 2yrs and suffers from Dementia. We can only ever speak very highly of all the staff who have tended her during this time. But whilst this awful virus has taken hold everywhere - Southfield House has maintained a clean bill of health. The staff went beyond
their normal roles and filled in for absent relatives by giving just that little bit more love and attention to all the residents. We're extremely pleased with the way this home is run and the staff which sets our mind at rest and is a pleasure to visit. Thank you.

Mum has now been here for nearly 4 years. I feel very lucky to have managed to get her a room here. Over the course of the years, I have found all staff to be caring and professional, mum is treated with dignity and genuine affection. The standard of food is excellent and cleanliness of rooms and public
spaces is very good.
No hesitation in recommending Southfield House.

This is a first-class care home. The staff are professional and caring. The place has just had new heating and decore. My mother has many needs and they were catered for. We moved her, only because we wanted her to be nearer to us. Thanks to all at Southfield House for their care over the last two years.

After a bad experience with my dad's nursing home, this is a joy.
The staff are fantastic, always smiling and when the patients ask for drinks, toilet etc, there is no 'when I get time' or 'after...', it's within minutes.
I really am impressed. Not sure about facilities or activities, I'm not that
involved.

This is the second visit I have made in the last 3 months and I was extremely impressed. Everyone we encountered was friendly, professional and caring towards residents. No one seemed to be hurrying resident sand toileting was done discretely. As a trained senior care giver, I was impressed. I wish
my Nan had been somewhere like this. One of the open lounges was being redecorated and this was being done cleanly and discretely.

My mother is cared for very well. She is kept clean and tidy and the staff take care of all her needs.
Over the tenure of her time at the home, the staff have adjusted her care as her dementia worsens. The staff are generally happy and considerate although at times they appear stretched.
Laundry could
be better. My mother's whites and lights have become yellowed and grey over time and not much attention is paid to spills and staining.

Lovely caring staff who all go that extra mile to help the residents. All very friendly and make sure all are catered for. My mother does not like to leave the home and doesn't relax until she is back in her usual chair. One member, in particular, came to a family wedding to accompany my mother on her
day off. My mother would not have been able to come it she did not offer her help. I can't praise the home enough. Really lovely place.

The staff and care during the day were excellent and we can't praise it enough. The night time care left a lot to be desired.

The help, assistance of all the staff during the day was kind, courteous and cooperative under difficult circumstances. The kitchen staff always helpful and his food was

enjoyed greatly.

We are very grateful for all their help.

Southfield House has been and continues to be the residential care home where my Mum lived until her recent death and where my Dad continues to live. The staff have always been caring and supportive to us all and in particular to Mum who had very special needs. I am really glad that we found Southfield
House when we did. They have been a Godsend to our family.

My uncle fell at the age of 95 and he decided that he was no longer safe at home. Following emergency respite care at a home in Boston, we moved him to one of our choices in his hometown. It was chosen as it was run by The Order of St John Care Trust (a charity as opposed to a commercial organisation)
and it proved a good choice. The downside is that the rooms are small and not en suite, but larger ones do become available. The standard of care is high and it is a bright and airy place set in nice grounds. The food is good and the staff are pleasant and efficient. Uncle, who is not always easy, loved it and would sing it's praises. He was not the sociable kind so did not participate in the activities of which there were many.

My mom went into Southfield House after a spell in hospital. At 90 years old she was very weak and lacked confidence that she could return home. After one week of wonderful care she was able to return home and is now doing very well. Every member of staff at Southfields treated her with the respect
she deserved and couldn't be nicer.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.565)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.565) out of 10 for Southfield House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.790 for Southfield House is calculated as follows: ( (119 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 143 Ratings = 4.79
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Southfield House is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4, which has been reached with 11 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Louise Needham

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2016

My name is Louise, and I am the Home Manager at Southfield House. I began working at Southfield House in April 2016, and I have been in multiple job roles during my time here at Southfield House and have worked my way up the ranks to become the Home Manager, but I have enjoyed each role I have performed here.

Before starting here at Southfield House, I worked within the Childcare sector, and then I worked in the community with elderly care.

I first became interested in pursuing a career in care when my mother looked after my Nan when she became unable to care for herself. I witnessed my mother care for my Nan until my Nan came to the end of her life. This inspired me to ensure that other individuals received the same loving care that my Nan did.

I enjoy working for OSJCT. There is always an opportunity to further your career; the Executives ensure that our residents receive the best care and that all staff are listened to. OSJCT believe in person-centred care, which is so important, and they also ensure that all employees are paid above the national minimum wage.

I love my job, working alongside fantastic people, and being part of our residents’ lives. To put a smile on someone’s face is the most rewarding thing you can do.

Lucy

Lucy Thorpe

Job Title: Activities Coordinator Joined: 2022

My name is Lucy, and I'm the Activities Coordinator at Southfield House, Spalding.

My previous career was as a paediatric nurse in the NHS. I left to bring up my children, and when the youngest started school, I wanted to return to a caring role, but in my local area, Southfield House was my first choice, as I had heard many lovely things about the home.

I have worked my way up at Southfield from a bank carer to a senior carer and night carer. During the pandemic, I left for a short time and returned to the NHS to deliver vaccines to vulnerable patients as a community nurse. I returned to the home after the pandemic as an activities coordinator in 2022, because the Trust is very welcoming, supportive and as a charity, the Trust reinvests to provide the best care for residents.

Furthermore, I was enthusiastic about the activities coordinator role, and the skills and experience I already have in caring to transfer to the role. I take my role as activities coordinator seriously as I am always striving to promote meaningful activities that are stimulating, fun and supportive for the residents.

There are so many ways to engage residents in these activities as everyone has different interests and abilities, no day is ever the same, and I am enjoying finding more ways for us to celebrate life together in our home community, and to connect with the wider community like recently taking part in Spalding flower parade which brought back so many lovely memories and was so much fun too.
