  • Westerley Christian Care Home, Woodhall Spa
Westerley Woodhall had a major refurbishment in March 2024, adding three additional rooms, each equipped with en-suite bathrooms with showers and finished to an exceptional standard.

The Broadway, Woodhall Spa is home to Westerley Christian Care Home. Woodhall Spa is a large village located on the Southern edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. It is built in and surrounded by trees which shelter it from East coast winds. Woodhall Spa is midway between Lincoln, with its old Cathedral, Roman ruins and modern shopping centre and Boston, an attractive market town. Skegness and the East Coast are only a short journey away.

Residents are actively encouraged to pursue their own hobbies and interests, both within the home and locally. Residents are encouraged to share in daily family prayers, where possible, but this is not obligatory. Prayers are held each weekday in the mornings and Holy Communion is celebrated monthly.

All rooms are fitted with a call bell and are equipped to recognised standards for residents living with a disability. Residents rooms come with telephones included in the fees and all rooms are equipped with a TV aerial socket and broadband ports, in addition to Wi-Fi available around the home.

Accommodation is provided in single en-suite rooms, however there are 2 double room available for married couples. Residents rooms are located on the ground, first and second floors, all accessible by passenger lift. Westerley provides a spacious dining room and two lounges, one of which has television facilities, and is fitted with a loop system for those with hearing difficulties. The other is a sun lounge, which has a southerly aspect and views over the gardens.

Residents can enjoy the extensive, sheltered gardens, offering the opportunity for relaxation and lawn games.

Mother in law went into Westerley last year, initially, she was unsettled, but due to the care she has received she actually said to me last week that she is very happy living there and she calls it home. We couldn't ask for more than that!

I stayed at Westerley Christian Care Home for three weeks following hospital treatment for a fractured femur. The staff were exceptionally helpful and kind and I was particularly impressed with the length of time all had worked at Westerley. With stable staff, this made for a very secure atmosphere
in the home. No one seemed hurried or stressed. Varied activities were offered each day and the daily prayer time each weekday was a great benefit with the different leaders showing interest in care for the residents.

From the matron and all the staff, you are given all the information you need either daily or weekly. Nothing is too much trouble. The resident concerned hasn't been in too long yet. Nearly a home from home.

My uncle has been a resident in the home for over 8 years. He has always been treated with respect and kindness. The standard of care is excellent and the staff always find time to talk to and listen to my uncle. Westerley Christian Care Home is very well managed and maintained and the level of cleanliness
is high. Liaison is good and I am always informed of any changes in my uncle's condition.

It feels like a home where lots of people happen to live with some helpers, not an institution as some feel like.
The atmosphere is very friendly and so are the staff. The rooms are big and mostly ensuite.
It is a very pleasant environment to live in and visit.

My mother is 96 and increasingly frail. The staff are very caring and encouraging. They keep her clean and well dressed and ensure her medication is given and taken on time. They are cheerful and assist her in washing, dressing, eating and see to all her needs. She has a comfortable room with her own
wetroom/bathroom, which is kept clean. Records are detailed and readily available. The home has a friendly atmosphere and a good reputation locally. They provide her with food which is sometimes different to the general provision when she needs something to eat, or has eating difficulty. She has put on weight since living here!

The leadership and care teams have been very attentive to my great aunt's wishes.
This has eased her transition to living in a care environment.
Westerley Christian Care Home is a lovely home from away from home.

I could not wish for a better place. It was a very difficult decision to put my grandma in a home.
However, the staff, the pale and the service provided has removed any doubts I have ever had.
Strongest points in my opinion are
- Cleanliness.
- Lovely staff.
- Happy/homely atmosphere.
- Well looked
after.

My parents both aged 95 moved into the home in July 2017. After a week respite, my mother decided to stay and my father came home to sort things out for two weeks, then moved in. They had adjacent rooms and the staff moved furniture around so one room is a bedroom and the other a small lounge. The staff
have treated them with great kindness, gentleness and dignity. The food is good and the whole building is very clean and does not smell! They have settled in well and are very happy. The family are always made to feel welcome we are holding a party there shortly to celebrate their Platinum Wedding Anniversary. Nothing is too much trouble and we feel we could not have a found a better place for them.

We have been taking my mother to Westerley on a regular basis over the past twelve months so that we could visit family and friends, and take a holiday knowing that she is receiving excellent care. Westerley was recommended to us and it has met our expectations. The staff are attentive, caring and
cheerful. The needs of my mother were assessed in detail and then a provision was put in place for her respite visits.

My mother has always spoken highly of her time in Westerley. Kind, chatty staff and good food are often mentioned. As a result of my mother's needs, she is now staying at Westerley on a permanent basis and has been there a week and is settling in well. The staff have been very helpful ensuring that her room is made as homely as possible.

Thank you to all the staff.

My friend had researched various homes before opting for this one, 18 months ago. My first impressions were how clean and tidy the home is. With no smells of urine and odour of elderly people. The rooms are all well furnished and most have en-suites. The kitchens and laundry rooms are immaculate. I
am told the food is very good, the chef takes the trouble to talk to residents about the menu's. Laundry is washed and ironed quickly and returned to the correct resident. The management and staff are very friendly, respectful and informative to residents and visitors. I cannot speak too highly.

I have a pleasant room with a display case containing my treasured possessions and book case with my books and my pictures on the wall. A lift transports me to my room. When I fell in the shower they came promptly to pick me up and have since supplied me with a stool so I can sit in the shower. When
the man servicing my radiator accidentally pulled the alarm card, the staff were her in moments to my slight embarrassment. Altogether have been here for six months I am very content.

Mum lived at Westerley Care Home for 6.5years. She has chosen the home herself. When she first went to live there, her mobility skills were poor, but she was encouraged to maintain her independence, however, mum developed Dementia.
She became completely bedridden and never developed a single bedsore.
Although confined to bed, mum was including things as far as was possible., for instance, a visiting PAT dog would be brought up to see her. When the staff discovered her responsiveness to music, a visiting violinist would go and play for her.
The staff were always very approachable, supportive and caring towards us, her family as well as towards mum.
The devoted care that she received throughout her time there, was second to none.

The Westerley Christian Care Home was highly recommended to us and I can only say that it lives up to its reputation. I couldn't have wished for a more caring environment for my mother to stay. It is welcoming and friendly and the staff couldn't be more helpful. There are activities for the residents
to join in on most days which my mother enjoys very much. This is one of the best care homes I have ever visited and is more akin to a hotel.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.710)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.710) out of 10 for Westerley Christian Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.475 for Westerley Christian Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (34 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 59 Ratings = 4.475
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.235 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Westerley Christian Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.8 = 0.735
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
