Willan House is a small independent residential care home. Owner managed it is located within scenic surroundings that are ideal for achieving a satisfying and relaxing lifestyle while having round the clock access to skilled care workers. The home has strong community links and aims to be a 'big family house' in terms of atmosphere. Care Staff are skilled in meeting specialist needs, including dementia and end-of-life care.

There are numerous activities to enjoy as part of home life, with both short and long-term stays welcome. Rooms are predominately single occupancy with two available for possible use as a twin or shared. The team want each individual to feel satisfied and encourage them to personalise their own rooms. The in-house chef uses fresh ingredients to produce meals that are tasty, nutritious and enjoyable.

Holders of a Platinum award from the nationally recognised "Gold Standard Framework for Care Homes', Willan House has also been one of the Top Twenty Care Homes in the East Midlands in 2017, 2019 and again in 2020.

Willan House has cared for my mum for the past 6 years and I couldn't wish for a better home for her. They spend lots of time doing all types of activities and exercise, fun games and dancing, also pamper days - hair done, nails painted and hands massaged, lovely. The staff are all so kind and respectful
of her needs, helping to make her days as happy as possible. Excellent food too. Full marks Willan House.

My nan has been a resident at Willan for 6 years now. They are such a lovely, caring and welcoming care home. My nan is always happy and well cared for. I can’t fault them at all. The house and room always look lovely and clean, staff are always friendly and happy to help. I think they have all done
an amazing job in the last 18 months under the circumstances with Covid. I really appreciate all the care they have taken with my nan, especially going the extra mile with video calls and updates with photos via social media at a time when we can’t visit. Thank you.

I would like to thank the manager and all the staff for the wonderful care my father received at Willan House. Under very difficult circumstances, nothing was too much trouble. The staff were exceptional, always friendly and welcoming and willing to go the extra mile to try anything that would help
my father. The home provided outstanding care and was everything and more that I could have asked for in a care home.

For over 5 months I have been visiting a friend each week, I have found the home to be very comfortable, clean and tidy, with the resident's happiness and care of utmost importance. The staff is very friendly and considerate of the resident's needs and comfort. Also welcoming to visitors. I certainly
would feel happy to live at Willan House should the need arise.

Every time I visited the home it was clean and welcoming. I was always kept informed of my cousin's treatment and state of health and mind. The care he received was excellent in all aspects. As he approached his death he was looked after with great care and compassion. I cannot thank all the staff and
the owners enough for their care of my cousin, a job well done.

I moved my wife from another home in the county which always seemed understaffed and somehow inadequate. Willan house was something of a revelation. The joint managers are welcoming. The staff numerous and friendly while the menu is varied, interesting and wholesome. The building is warm, airy and clean
with a happy atmosphere, while the resident's rooms are also bright, airy and well furnished. My wife is very happy at Willan House.

My week of daycare after a total hysterectomy turned out to be a wonderful start on my journey of recovery. Everything was done for me with kindness, consideration and humour, yet I was encouraged to do things for myself and was soon using stairs, exercising and walking around the lovely garden. Oh
yes, and eating. I gained 4lbs and loved the leisurely breakfasts and homegrown apple puddings, particularly I enjoyed TV time on my own and interacting with staff and residents. Thank you so much - keep up the good work!

My mother had been residing at Willan House for 4 years when she had a stroke in late February this year. The home said to bring her back for end of life care so that she was among friends, rather than laying in a hospital bed. The home was fantastic, supporting our family and caring for Mum. Nothing
was too much trouble. Mum died on 7th March and the home helped prepare her for the funeral directors. I shall miss the staff who have become friends as well as carers.

All staff very friendly and efficient, nothing seems too much trouble. Mother's room is very bright and airy with a good view out of the window. They have a church service every month and the communion service on Christmas day was enjoyed very much by all. Several activities during the week and they
always make various craft things. Willan House seems very 'homely' for the residents.

After a fall and a hospital stay, we were advised that dad needed respite care.
We requested Willan House as a few years ago our Nan was a resident there.
Due to mobility dads care needs became permanent. Dad tells me he is very happy at Willan and is always ready to tell anyone how well cared for
he is, how good the food is and what a lovely room he has.

The owners and staff are so friendly and approachable it is lovely to be able to just turn up for a visit.
It really feels like a home away from home with bespoke care they are always interested in dads past history and take the time to chat with him about his past.

Dad is encouraged to join in activities and his likes and dislikes are always taken into account, residents are treated with compassion, kindness and the care is second to none, there is always someone on hand for anything he needs. I am happy knowing that dad is happy. Thank-you.

My partners father has been a resident in Willan House for the past 4 months. He was finding it increasingly difficult to manage at home alone following his wife passing away both physically and mentally. He had lost weight, was depressed and listless his general health was on a rapid decline.
As
a family we can’t thank the owners and staff for their support to my partners father and the whole family. His care is outstanding. He has been treated like he is ‘at home’ he has gained weight, much better in his self esteem and, is participating in day to day life and activities.

I would highly recommend Willan House care home.

My mum was placed into the home as she has mobility difficulties due to a painful hip - she uses a frame and she also has dementia. Mum has been resident there for nearly 3 years and has received excellent care, she has made friends and is happy.

She has a nice room with an ensuite toilet and basin. There's plenty of activities going on in the week for the residents to take part in if they want to and Mum does love to join in with these.

The staff are very friendly, efficient and caring. It is a pleasure to visit her there.

Having suddenly reached a state where she needed full-time care, my mother entered Willan House for a few weeks of respite care and has now been there, on a full-time basis, for almost a year. While she really does not know where she is, she settled in quickly and has benefitted from the attention she
receives. She looks well, is always neat and tidy, thanks to the additional services of a hairdresser and a chiropodist. While no longer able to walk without support, she is encouraged to leave her room, and although she won't always participate in the house's communal activities, every effort is made to stimulate her. The staff are very attentive, even to visitors, and have great tact and patience.

A small well run care home in quiet surroundings. Front always opened with a smile. Senior members of staff nearly always available if needs arise. The facilities at the home are good and in a good state of repair. The staff have a pleasant manner with the residents and are on hand when assistance is needed. As my mother loves our dogs it is lovely for her to be able to see our pets from time to time as the dogs are welcomed into the home by the
staff and management.

My husband who has small vessel disease of the brain, onset dementia, double incontinence with Parkinson symptoms has been attending Willan House for the last four years. I looked in at this home several times before allowing him to go every Tuesday and Thursday.
I was encouraged to just "drop in"
whenever, no appointment and I must say I was very impressed. My husband settled in straight away and has never not wanted to go. The owner is wonderful - nothing is too much trouble. They do their utmost to be homely with all residents and day attendees. They exceed themselves and I cannot speak highly enough of them.

My father receives excellent care at Willan House. He is a frail and elderly man, and so needs lots of assistance with mobility and personal care. The staff are always on hand to help him and have been consistently friendly and supportive. Because the care home is small, he knows all of the people who
work there. And they know me by my first name too, so it all makes for a friendly and relaxed place for residents and visitors alike. The management of the home appears to be excellent too. Whenever I have had questions or concerns, the owners always have time to discuss my father's well-being in great detail.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.572)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.572) out of 10 for Willan House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.972 for Willan House is calculated as follows: ( (69 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.972
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Willan House is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 6 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
