Lever Edge House is a purpose-built care home, created to best compliment a highly skilled team offering excellent residential care. This home also boasts fantastic dementia care.

Carers offer residents and their families the support they need during what many find some of the most trying times of their lives. Families are truly grateful for the personal support they receive, when faced with one of life's very difficult decisions and the team pride themselves on continuing that support to residents and their families from the moment they contact the home throughout the whole of their stay and beyond.

The approach to care is simple - look after the person and not the ailment/condition alone - Carers want to get to know their residents and their families, thus enabling them to look after the whole person and not just to concentrate on the task in hand. Staff get to know their clients, who they are, who they were and how they have come to be at the home.

Carers get to know their families too and like to understand the dynamics within the family setting and how best they can support these as they build a relationship of trust. They understand that choosing a care home is not just about excellent amenities, but about a true and real understanding of relationships being nurtured, trust being built and a life being lived. Professionals believe in true, real and honest care and keep this at the heart of their approach.

The home welcomes long stay residents but also those wanting a shorter stay, perhaps for rehabilitation or convalescence or to build confidence after a fall. Has also offered respite care and support to those suffering from nervous conditions following a break in at their home

Hill Care have are well respected in the North of England for a homely range of care accommodations that incorporate the latest sector technology and recognised good practice.

Our mother has been a resident at Lever Edge Care Home for almost four years now. She is looked after really well by all the staff there who are friendly to us and keep us informed of anything we need to know.
We are now able, myself and my sisters, to enjoy breaks away knowing that her needs are
being met. We visit very regularly between us, at least every other day so we are well aware of how the home operates on a day to day basis.
This area of care is the hardest to work in as I myself was in the caring profession until my retirement and well understand that the work is often very challenging and also can be very rewarding.
We are very grateful to all the staff, carers, seniors, kitchen staff who produce great food, laundry staff, office staff and cleaning operatives who all do a great job under at times very difficult circumstances.
We would advise people to visit for themselves to see all the hard work that goes into the homely atmosphere there.

My mother has both vascular dementia and Alzheimer's disease. She moved into Lever Edge when my sisters and I could no longer care for her. This was four years ago.
In this time, we have seen staff and residents come and go, some old faithful's are still around. Mistakes have been made but that is
the case in every hospital, clinic or home because people do make mistakes.
I must say that, in these four years, my mum has been contented, well fed, clean, entertained and loved. The staff are genuinely fond of her and that is the most important thing to us, as we were always a very close family.
I would trust the staff and management to make the right decisions about my mother's care. We are now able to go on holiday without worry, as staff contact us with any issues.
I recently recommended this home to a friend and her mother is now a resident.
Well done all at Lever Edge, we appreciate the care and love you give mum every day.

My mother has resided here for 9 months, and is cared for well. The hard-working team are genuinely caring. Up until around March, the entertainments and activities at the home were poor. No activities coordinator meant staff were just too busy in their day-to-day tasks to spend too much time on activities.

However,

the recent appointment of a genuinely committed member of staff, dedicated to activities, has changed things. My mother now enjoys lots more stimulation in the home and also enjoys trips out to cafes, markets, parks and pub lunches. It's been a great help to her.

I do feel that Head Office management are a little out of touch at times, and were quite fixed over an issue that I drew to their attention recently. However, to be fair, the matter was eventually resolved satisfactorily. I think more practical support is needed for the team at times from the Head Office management.

However, the main issue is that my mother is cared for well, and is happy and settled there.

My Mother-in-Law became a resident at Lever Edge Care Home in March 2017, following a 3-week stay in hospital.

Whilst in hospital, and being 96 years old, it became clear to everyone, including mum, that the time was right for her to go into residential care.

We visited over 10 care homes and

just when we were about to give up, we came across Lever Edge. We were welcomed by friendly staff, the place looked bright, and everyone seemed happy.

We had two rooms to choose from. After deciding on the one we wanted, we were allowed to customise the room to meet mum's personal taste.

Over the last few months, mum's general health has greatly improved. She's eating better and generally seems contented. For the first time in years, we feel at ease knowing there is always someone there if she needs any help. She's treated with dignity, the staff are wonderful caring people, she chooses what she wants to eat and she loves her own room, it's definitely become home to mum. Thanks to everyone.

I feel more entertainment could be done, I know that the person who did this is no longer here, but I feel that it should be put back on for the residents.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.593)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.593) out of 10 for Lever Edge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.593 for Lever Edge is calculated as follows: ( (201 Excellents x 5) + (68 Goods x 4) + (26 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 295 Ratings = 4.593
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lever Edge is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 81 registered maximum number of service users is 16.2, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

My greatest achievement was writing a poem during the pandemic I entered a competition and out of hundreds of entries I won. My poem was then published along with my photograph in a book called ‘Poems in a Pandemic,’ so a very proud moment!
