Epworth Grange provides residential, dementia and short-stay care for up to 41 residents in a welcoming and community-focused home in Bury, Greater Manchester.

Just minutes from Bury’s town centre, the home offers easy access to shops, parks, the open-air market and heritage railway. The building is arranged over two floors and divided into five small households, creating a cosy and familiar environment. All bedrooms are single occupancy and en-suite.

The secure, landscaped gardens include raised beds, a shaded pergola, and a koi pond donated by a neighbour—now a peaceful focal point. Residents enjoy relaxing outdoors, tending to plants, and watching visiting birds and wildlife.

Mum has been cared for at Epworth Grange for just over two years. She has flourished with the care given. This is all down to the staff and the way they have involved her with various things, meeting her needs. This is peace of mind for me because I live some distance away. When I have visited I have
always found friendliness and a very homely atmosphere. Mum has limited mobility and likes the garden where she can wander safely. Mum tells me what is going on and I feel the residents are extremely lucky to have such a good social life. I am so thankful Mum is in Epworth Grange.

My Mother is 103 years old with dementia, double incontinence and bedridden. I cannot state how well she has been cared for over the 10 years she has been a resident in Epworth. I live in South Wales. The staff phone me frequently to keep me up to date. The staff are very friendly and caring. I will
be booking a room for myself.

My dad has exceptional care at Epworth Grange. The staff are compassionate and always responsive to his needs.
They are used to working with people who have enhanced needs due to dementia and they are always patient and supportive to my dad and the whole family.

This is my 2nd review. Dad has stayed a few years now and I still highly recommend Epworth Grange, again mostly due to the amazing staff. Dad experienced tricky times in recent years and Epworth Grange has been supportive and patient, enabling Dad to remain. Dad requires significantly more personal
care these days: this is facilitated with dignity. Staff continue to provide options to join in even though Dad is generally reluctant. I have reviewed other homes in case Dad's circumstances change and continue to believe this is by far the best.


More general comments: recently refurbished, though it was good before as well! Tasty and healthy food, I book in for meals too. Knowledgeable and dementia trained staff who understand and remember individual residents' needs and preferences. A range of activities: rescue owls are my favourite. Spotlessly clean and bright rooms with a welcome option to personalise. A friendly, caring and professional home to live in which is noticeable as soon as you arrive at the door.

My mother has settled very well at this care home having moved from another in the area. The staff are always welcoming and helpful. There is always a wide range of activities provided during the week giving the opportunity for companionship and enjoyment. Recent refurbishments and decoration have enhanced
the warmth and safety of the home.

I know 3 residents in this care home who I have been visiting for the past 4 years. All my visits are unannounced and I have always been impressed by the way all residents are treated, not just those I am visiting. One of my friends has many possessions and is not the most tidy but she is allowed to
keep her room as she wishes - there is nothing 'clinical' about it, although it is kept clean by the staff. People are treated as individuals here - with love, respect and dignity. I would be happy to live here if I needed to!

When members of staff wearing whatever uniforms are able to say "Good Morning" and address my mother with her name, who can largely chat to me and mention any idiosyncratic detail and be fully aware of any little detail which she has mentioned in a conversation, then hope becomes faith and conviction
that her social, physical and mental well-being is kept to its best for a mum you love but couldn't maintain with your sister in her own home. The members of staff explore any opportunities to make her days "inclusive" with others both despite and because of her disabilities.

Epworth Grange was the only choice for me to put forward for my mothers care. Having visited a number of homes in the area, Epworth was welcoming and also highly recommended. The home is exceptionally clean and smells fresh every time I visit. My mother has resided here for 7 years now, following her
stroke. She is very settled and happy here.


The staff are very attentive to all her needs and the care she receives from everyone in the home is exceptional. Although my mother has difficulty with her speech and memory, she can still point out her favourite staff members.


All in all, the best will only do for my mum, and I have found it at Epworth.

The staff at Epworth Grange are kind, friendly and professional and always give my aunt the care she needs while promoting her independence. There is an interesting and varied programme of activities which my aunt is encouraged to participate in if she chooses. The environment indoors and outdoors is
well maintained, clean and pleasant. My aunt enjoys the food provided. I am so happy that my aunt is living at Epworth Grange.

Lovely home, clean and fresh smelling all of the time. The care provided to my friend is second to none.
Carers introduce themselves, even the laundry staff introduce themselves. You can't buy manners.

My mother was a resident at Epworth Grange for a significant period of time. Unfortunately, she recently passed away at the age of 90.
The care, understanding and compassion shown by all staff at Epworth Grange were, in my opinion, outstanding.
Her 90th birthday was a special occasion for the family
and was equally celebrated by staff and other residents of the home.
Chef made a special cake and we all sang Happy Birthday.
This will be my enduring memory of my mother's time at the home and I hope that this level of care and compassion will continue.

The home proved excellent care and showed real concern for my mother and myself during a difficult time. The staff were very kind and professional. The home itself is well appointed and has regular, varied and frequent activities. The rooms are spacious and there are several attractive communal areas.
e.g hobbies room, lounge, coffee lounge. In addition the dining facilities are good with residents grouped in "family" sized dining rooms.

My father became resident at Epworth Grange when it had become no longer possible to care for him at home. From the moment he was visited before moving in he was treated by the staff as an individual. As his condition deteriorated and his dementia worsened - despite some difficult behaviours - all the
staff were committed to giving him the best care possible looking for ways to stimulate him, provide him with carers he could work with and provide sandwiches at some odd times. Records and care plans were kept in his room so we were always able to keep up to date.


Unfortunately my father died earlier this year. As the end came the staff continued to provide excellent support to him and the family. They were ready to work with a palliative care plan and able to help us understand the process. As the end came staff would sit with him and kept their promise that he would not be alone waiting with him until family arrived.

My mum has dementia and has lived at Epworth Grange for 10 months. I am delighted with the care that my mum has received since moving in. I have found the staff to be friendly and helpful and the culture of treating all residents with respect and dignity is evident every time I visit. The home is always
clean, pleasant and well maintained, there are several communal areas, both inside and out and plenty of room for my mum to walk around. The programme of activities is very varied and I have always been made to feel welcome when I visit each week. Now that my mum has settled in to her new home at Epworth Grange she seems calmer and happier than she has for a long time, which is the best recommendation of all.

Susan Hopkinson

Susan Hopkinson is the dedicated Home Manager at MHA Epworth Grange, where she has been proudly leading the home since 2014. A qualified RGN, Susan began her career as a student nurse in 1988 before working at Hope Hospital (now Salford Royal). It was during her early career in a local nursing home that her passion for care home nursing truly began.


Susan took on her first Home Manager role in 1999 and brings decades of leadership experience to Epworth Grange. She is passionate about ensuring residents are always at the heart of everything the team does, and is committed to creating a respectful, sensitive, and supportive environment where people feel truly at home.


Known for her compassionate and fair approach, Susan is especially proud of the dedicated team she works alongside—many of whom have been with the home for over a decade. Together, they strive to deliver consistently high standards of person-centred care in a warm and welcoming setting.
