Alderwood prides itself on the care and attention given to residents and their families. Carers concentrate on getting to know you and your loved one, enabling us to look after physical needs and more importantly delivering what emotional support you and your family need.

The team accept that choosing a care home is one of the most difficult decisions a family member or advocate can make and are here to help you through that decision, through the move in and beyond.

Excellent care is the key objective of each of the team members. Caring for those who can no longer look after themselves is what they do best, with an approach that takes into account that although there will be aspects of daily care and activity that residents could not manage at home, carers continue to encourage independence wherever possible - thus enabling residents to make the most of what they can do on a daily basis.

Freshly-cooked food allows the home to pursue sound nutrition and pleasant surroundings make Alderwood a satisfying residence in which to spend a retirement.

Carers support an active lifestyle alongside professional care part of their core mission, endeavouring to ensure that both residents and visitors enjoy their time spent at the home. Has all of the usual benefits of a care home, including en suite rooms, excellent communal spaces and areas for residents to enjoy quiet times.

Also offers excellent activities at the home, which offer stimulation and engagement to all residents. An activities co-ordinator works with individuals to ensure that they offer activities that will suit each person and sometimes this means that one to one activity is more appropriate than group activities.

Our dad received wonderful care during his time at the home, and we couldn't be more thankful. The staff were always approachable, supportive, and willing to help with anything he needed.

They made a real effort to spend time chatting with him, which he really enjoyed, and it was clear they genuinely

cared. He was also encouraged to take part in the activities, even on days when he wasn't feeling his best, which helped keep him engaged and lifted his mood.

We truly appreciate all the care, kindness, patience, and respect shown to him throughout his stay. It made a big difference to both him and our family. Thank you to you all!

My grandad spent a short time in this care home, but we honestly couldn't have asked for better care. The staff were incredibly kind, attentive, and nothing was ever too much trouble for them. It gave us great comfort knowing he was so well looked after.

Before he became bed-bound, they made a real

effort to involve him in the fantastic range of activities available, which were truly excellent and brought him a lot of enjoyment. The care, compassion, and dedication shown by the team made a difficult time much easier for our family, and we are very grateful.
Thank you so much to Angela and all the team at Alderwood Care home.. you're all superstars!

Alderwood is an absolute gem, from the minute you walk in the door you feel a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and you can tell that the care of the residents is a priority. Deciding on a care home can be really stressful and quite daunting, you want your family member to be well looked after and cared
for by the staff as if they were one of their own and this is what Alderwood offers. They have a fantastic events program to give the residents enrichment, there is always something going on and the staff all get involved. Most recently they were making Easter Bonnets which my mother in law who is suffering with Dementia really enjoyed. It was great to see her smiling for a photo while wearing it.

My Dad went to Alderwood in December 2024, the service is second to none, he was happy and cared for, he enjoyed it, he loved Maria and all the staff. When my mum also shown signs of not being able to live independently there was never any other place that we felt she would be best placed than Alderwood
and she went in August 2025, since being in there she has been to Southport for fish n chips, a visit to the garden centre to name a few, the entertainment is fantastic and she is having an amazing time too! Big thanks to all the staff, they do an amazing job, sadly we lost our dad in March 2025 but Mum continues to thrive there and she is really happy and so are we! Well done guys xx

I cannot recommend this Care Home enough. I knew the moment I walked in this was the place that our Amazing Mum of 95 years young would be happy, secure and well looked after. My expectations haven't been disappointed.
Staff from all departments welcome you with a smile and a friendly face and nothing
is too much trouble.
All staff are well trained and knowledgeable about their residents needs. The staff and Management really do care about their residents and make a great team in providing the highest level of support to our Mums wellbeing.
Alderwood is in a beautiful setting with lovely gardens. Everything from the food to the housekeeping and the bedrooms are of a good standard. The range of activities on offer is also varied and of a high standard and fully inclusive.
A wonderful team providing a wonderful service. What more can a family ask for when entrusting their most precious possession into the care of others.

Very happy with the level of care provided at Alderwood. My wife has a comfortable, clean room, and loves the food here. Staff and management are excellent, and residents are treated with care and dignity within a secure environment. Residents are encouraged to take part in activities most days; these
are popular and varied, and this builds a good atmosphere.

We are so very happy with the care service for our mother. It's a beautiful home , the gardens , dining room and all bedrooms are kept to a very high standard. The staff are lovely and treat all the residents with the utmost respect. The entertainment is brilliant, which is needed to stimulate
all residents and make them feel young again. I would highly recommend this care home , my mother and the other residents have their dignity restored as old age and medical conditions robs them of so much.

My Mum has recently moved into Alderwood. She has mental & physical health needs. She's been struggling living by herself for over a year and arrived at Alderwood in a bad way. In just a short space of time and being properly looked after we are amazed how well she now seems. She's genuinely happy &
settled. My Mum has clicked well with the staff and feels at ease with them. She trusts them and allows them to look after her. It's a casual atmosphere around the place which is great. The staff are all extremely friendly & helpful. Everyone is on the ball and communication is spot on. It's just what my Mum was needing. She's enjoying the environment, the staff, the food and having her hair done. We were worried about Mum going into a care home and the implications. Turns out Mum has embraced it as a positive move, enjoying the perks and treats it like an all inclusive holiday. Many thanks to Alderwood and staff. We are thankful.

My first experience of Alderwood Care Home was a visit to my mother's home to assess her suitability to go into care at the home. It was carried out by the manager and a member of staff, who were very professional explaining the facilities and answering all our queries. Even at this stage, my mother
was made to feel that Alderwood would be a happy and settled environment. Now, seven months later I can honestly say that the whole experience of such a life-changing step has changed my mother's outlook on life and has enhanced her confidence with both the staff and other residents. The home is always clean and the staff are always welcoming with a chat and a smile. All her health needs are met, both physically and mentally. I would definitely recommend Alderwood Care Home to anyone.

My dad was admitted to Alderwood Care Home in March 2023 from hospital after becoming acutely unwell and this exacerbated his pre-existing dementia. He was unable to live at home with my mum as he was unable to maintain a safe environment and needed help with all activities of daily living.
From
the first moment we looked around the care home, there was a warm, calm, welcoming and homely feel. Dad moving into a care home was a huge shock and upset for our family and very distressing for my mum. The staff at the care home have been wonderful in ensuring our family feel welcome and supported during this transition. Nothing has ever been too much trouble. All staff at the care home have taken the time to get to know Dad, his likes/dislikes, routines and are always kind, gentle, thoughtful, compassionate and respectful.
My family and I feel complete confidence that Dad is safe and receiving the best care. We are so thankful to all the staff at Alderwood for everything they do.

Mum went into Alderwood for respite when Dad was in hospital and remained there as a result of his ongoing ill health and her own problems with dementia. She was very happy there and the care the girls gave her was first-class. The Manager was supportive of both her, my dad and me during a very difficult
time and as the end came, couldn't have been more respectful. I would recommend Alderwood to anyone facing the difficult decision for their own family members.

My dad first went to Alderwood in November 2022 for respite care whilst my mum had been admitted to hospital. However, as my mum struggled with her own health my sister and I had to make a very difficult decision to ask if my dad could become a full-time resident. The manager was absolutely amazing
to help us make this decision. She has a fabulous team of carers who provide the best possible care for my dad to make everyday the best he could possibly hope living apart from my mum.
My sister and I really can't thank everyone at Alderwood enough for the hard work, help, support and most important the laughter they bring to my dad every single day.
Thank you so much and keep up the great work, we really do appreciate it!

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.760) out of 10 for Alderwood Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.910 for Alderwood Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (151 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 166 Ratings = 4.91
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Alderwood Care Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
