Overall care for my father is good. Room could do with a refurbishment. Staff and management available to deal with any concerns and to talk to discuss situations. Catering is good for residents. Medication given at correct times daily.

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. We really value the feedback provided by those who use our services.

You have highlighted concerns about the standard of décor at the home. Over the last three years, we have invested £100 million across all our homes to make these necessary improvements, and to provide specialist equipment, facilities, minibuses and some refurbishment works.
In the summer of 2015, we announced a major new investment programme, with a further £100 million investment which will enable us to complete refurbishments right across all homes. Many of the changes being made have been decided by Residents themselves, and the first phase of this upgrade programme is currently underway at 50 homes, before expanding to all homes over the coming months.
The Home Manager has an open door policy, please feel free to call in anytime to discuss any concerns you may have.

The staff have gone out of their way to make my dad happy since his recent stay in the hospital. They have advised us with great ideas on how to improve dad's life and the change in his outlook is amazing. We will always be grateful to Hurst Hall for taking dad in, when his needs were so significant
and for the work of the staff in helping him to regain some of his dignity.

Generally mums care has been very good. She is looked after by staff who try hard to treat residents with sensitivity and regard for personal dignity. Staff take pains to ensure that she is dressed well and is eating and drinking enough.

The decor and some of the furnishings are tired and although

there has been some refurbishment, there are still areas which need attention.
There could be more activities for residents, but given the level of staffing and numbers of residents, it is understandable that there are not as many activities.
Reply from HC-Oneq, Careline Team at Hurst Hall Care Centre

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. We really value the feedback provided by those who use our services.
We note you have highlighted concerns about the activities programme on offer at the home, and apologise if we have fallen short of the high standards we aspire to.
Sometimes, due to staff sickness or vacancies, we are unable to deliver the programme of activities we want to. Please be assured that in these situations we are working very hard to rectify the situation as quickly as possible. We apologise again for the inconvenience caused during these times.
We have recruited a new activity coordinator who will be meeting with Residents and relatives to develop a new activity programme which will include activities the Residents in the home would like to participate in. The new Home Manager and Deputy Manager are already starting to plan some events for the autumn and winter and this will be shared with Residents and relatives at the monthly meetings.
Thanking you again for taking the time to provide really helpful feedback about the home. We value all feedback and ensure it is recorded and acted upon.

My mother is new to the home, only 10 weeks into her care, but the staff are very friendly, and on my arrival they know just were she can be found in the home. Her medical needs have been very well cared for, she enjoys her food and always looks clean and well groomed.

I stayed for 2 weeks in the above residential home following an operation until social services could assess me for temporary care in my own home. I found the staff to be very caring and helpful, food good and appetising. The home generally kept clean and pleasant surroundings. As I believe in many
such homes there seemed to be a shortage of staff but they pulled together.

Had to have mum in home as at 96 years old kept falling and gradually not going to bed and not making her breakfast. Also not changing her clothes as often. The staff have been brilliant with her and as I go everyday (at different times) observed how good the staff were with other people in the home,
although sometime very busy.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.986)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.986) out of 10 for Hurst Hall Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.786 for Hurst Hall Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (55 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.786
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.2 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hurst Hall Care Centre is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 10 = 0.6
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
