Garden Lodge care home delivers residential and dementia care to up to 48 older people.

It is situated in the quiet, residential area of Netherley, Liverpool, close to a local supermarket, post office and large park. There is a direct bus route going to the centre of Liverpool every five minutes.

The home is entirely ground-floor level for accessibility. The home is split into two units, one for residential care and one for dementia care. Both units have single bedrooms with communal bathroom facilities, as well as lounge and dining facilities and a courtyard. The residential care unit also features a smoking room and a hair salon.

Two activities coordinators design and deliver an entertainment programme full of stimulating activities, often in the dedicated activities room. Residents can enjoy a wide range of group activities and are supported to continue their own hobbies or take up new things.

Onsite chefs prepare home-cooked food daily from fresh ingredients, including the option for a cooked breakfast. Residents’ preferences and dietary requirements are accommodated.

After much thought I knew that my 86-year-old mum had to move to residential care. From my initial contact with Garden Lodge and a follow-up visit I sensed it was a happy, very clean and friendly place. The residents were busy, not all nodding off in a communal room. My mum has dementia and 24-hour
care from family just wasn't enough. In January I thought she was very close to death. She joined Garden Lodge and took time to settle then lockdown happened. I was devastated at the thought of not seeing my mum after visiting her every day. Fast forward to now and I can't tell you how settled and happy my mum and I are. We can't see her due to COVID-19 but I ring her every day and she can ring me. I can't count how many times she has laughed while we have chatted, something she had stopped doing. She's made friends and sounds so settled. I now see a brighter future for her, she seems to have a better social life than me! The staff have worked so hard to stay COVID-19 free and I can't thank them enough.

Whilst my mum has been a resident in the home, the care she has received has been second to none. The improvement physically and mentally in her wellbeing has been outstanding and all while going through lockdown and shielding procedures. Well done to everyone who works there.

My Auntie was in the wonderful Garden Lodge for 4 years before she sadly passed away. What can I say but the staff are absolutely out of this world! They mean the world to me and my family and we still keep in contact and we are welcomed when they have any celebrations going on in the home and we still
go, they are a massive family and I love that about them. Nothing is too much trouble. When my aunty was coming to the end of her wonderful life, the staff went to so much trouble to make it comfortable for her and for us, they set up a bed in the family room so we could stay there around the clock, provided us with an unlimited amount of drinks and food even letting us use the showers and doing our laundry, as well as running out to the shops to get my sister some PJs as she lives in London and forgot to bring some. Made sure that we were as comfortable as possible and supportive knowing that we could stay there and not have to worry about going home was such a relief. Thank you!

My mother has advanced dementia and required 24-hour care. Garden Lodge felt like a "home" due to the teamwork from all the departments. Nothing is too much. Staff not just there for my mum, but also the family. The support during difficult times was fantastic, even priceless. Garden Lodge is a home
from home. Support continued after the passing of my mum, and I remain in contact with Garden Lodge.

The care that my grandad receives at Garden Lodge is outstanding. The staff are amazing, they are a big family and I don't feel like I am just visiting my grandad, it's like going to see all of my family. The staff are always laughing and singing with the residents, lots of joking going on. What stands
out for me is that the activities continue into the evening, when we looked at different homes, it was like the activities stopped at a certain time and that was an issue for us, as my grandad is an active sociable person but I have no problems about that, as there is always something going on. When I visit, I take part in activities as well as all the staff on duty. Everyone gets involved and I love that about the staff at Garden Lodge, they treat me like family. Nothing is too much trouble at all, I even get to have meals with my grandad. The management are brilliant, nothing is too much trouble and they get stuck in with the care staff which you don't get everywhere, just brill.

The care home, staff and facilities are excellent, there is a very homely feel and a loving environment. The staff have been alert to warning signs that my mum is becoming unwell and they take the appropriate action and keep me informed. There are a lot of social events. Open visiting times and visitors
are made welcome. Laundry needs revising but this is a minor concern and does not affect overall care.

I cannot fault the care home on a single factor. What comes to mind when thinking of why it is so good is the following:
The building is always super clean. Well maintained with pleasant gardens and ambient temperature.
The staff are friendly, approachable and regularly change bedclothes and linen.
The food is of a high standard with a wide range of choices. Finally, other things like the pet rabbits, open visiting hours and days out opportunities are all an added bonus. 100% happy.

It would be difficult to find a better care home than Garden Lodge. Everything about the home is as perfect as it can be. I hope that if my time to go into a care home comes that I will become a resident at Garden Lodge. I attend once a week and offer my help and I am made very welcome. My wife was
a resident until she passed away and I feel very close to her when I visit. The residents want for nothing from the dedicated staff overseen by an efficient and caring manager.

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed and treated like family members by the staff. For almost three years, staff have always continued to treat us with dignity, love and respect and have provided for any need that has arisen. Everyone is eager to please and include us/discuss any issues/problems
that arise, so matters can be dealt with and sorted quickly. Everyone works like cogs in a machine to ensure the home is run smoothly and efficiently, guided by the manager. All the family can't praise Garden Lodge highly enough and 'thank you' does not begin to cover it.

My grandma has lived at Garden Lodge for the last three years. She has been very happy here and extremely well cared for and loved by all the staff. She has lived her last years of life in total safety and freedom in the way she wants to live her day. Something we could not have provided for her at
home with the dementia. There are always things for her to get involved in if she chooses to and she has had the opportunity to do things she maybe wouldn't have thought of herself. The one thing that really stands out to me at Garden Lodge is the staff team - they all do their job in an exceptional way. I have seen how they are all there for one purpose and work together to achieve the amazing standard of care that they give every day. They make so much effort with residents and families. It feels like a family here and the staff make you feel part of it. During a difficult time, they have cared for our whole family and we are forever grateful to them for their compassion and kindness.
