My beautiful sister has now passed away at Church View after over 3 years as a resident. I cannot put into words how thankful I am to the brilliant manager and her fantastic team. Everyone has given my sister exceptional care and outstanding attention. Church View had become part of our family.
Even
after my sister's passing, the manager still continued to help our family through a difficult and emotional time. Patience, care, understanding on another level was offered by all the staff. We will miss all our visits and chats. Thank you Church View for everything you did to make my sister happy and contented.

Birch Abbey

from D W (Friend of Resident) published on 24 October 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5
On visiting our friend we found her to be sound asleep and we were unable to waken her. Being concerned we called for a nurse and were told they were on a break. We waited for another 20 minutes and being unable to waken our friend we became concerned and called for a nurse to come immediately. The
senior assistant came took her blood pressure which was ok. We were very concerned that our friend was being prescribed 10mg of morphine daily which appeared to be making her drowsy a lot. She was not in pain. She appeared as if she had been overdosed. We have never seen her like this before. We requested an urgent review of her medication with a view to weaning her off morphine. When she entered the home a year ago she was perfectly compos mentos and independent and has since become very lethargic and miserable. We have seen a huge deterioration in her ability to function as a result of new medication and being deskilled.

Care and Death of Mother in Law Aggie.
Senior carer and care staff are excellent. Management is questionable because my MIL should have received palliative care 3 days before her traumatic passing which was accepted by medical examiner.
MIL resident for over 5 yrs. No representation at funeral.
No Sympathy card to family.
Senior management and local management leave a lot to be desired.
Suggest not our preference to recommend Moss Rd, but reality is a parent that has dementia cannot be moved after a period of time bcos it has become their home.
Absolutely no entertainment engagement with residents. Looked after dressed , washed etc but sat in front of tv in lounge or room.
Carers and Senior carers run off their feet.
When MIL admitted 5 yrs ago. Always a carer in lounge. Not any more. A resident can kick off in lounge now bcos carers are so reduced. Honest views

Since my relative has been on respite at Avonleigh, we have noticed a massive difference in her mental well-being, personal hygiene and overall health. It is so nice to see the care that she is receiving. All of the staff make it feel so homely. No matter their job role, they all work together and go

Since my husband has been at Millbrook, I have found it to be a well-run home; his room is clean, light and airy. Food seems good, although he is on modified food due to swallowing difficulties. The staff are so very kind and caring with residents and have also been supportive of me. The leadership
set the tone for the entire team, and there is a good team culture. I have been particularly impressed by the transparency, good communication and willingness to listen, which has built my confidence and trust and made for a good relationship and very probably, better care.

Since being here at Dovehaven my grandma hasn't had one UTI, yet in her last care home she was getting them every other month. Gran is well cared for despite her frailty. She has no pressure sores. Nothing is too much trouble for the care team, the hostess and the manager. The male staff are so kind

Staff were amazing, tried to give Colin all he wanted. He was clean, happy, safe and well fed. He enjoys his chats with the staff.
It is a wonderful home, I cannot speak highly enough of this home.

My mum has been in pennine view since last June and although upset and distressing for the family we feel we have made the right choice for her care and needs . She always seems happy and content when visit and the staff are lovely, friendly and caring .
Very attentive and alert even when busy they
still have time to chat with you if any concerns or questions.
The food is very nutritious and always have lots of homemade cakes and treats for the residents for their afternoon tea/ coffee .
I'm happy she is settled as I can't visit as often as I'd like due to being a full time carer for dad who no longer could look after mum due to his mobility problems. I know she is being cared for and doesn't feel alone . All the staff love my mum
I'd recommend pennine view for your loved ones .

As the daughter of a respite user i can only comment and review on the days my 93 year old mother was in there, I can't thank Rachel and James enough for their prompt and quick actions getting my mum in at such short notice so i could still go on my holiday, the staff were friendly and treated mum
with dignity and meet her needs as she had just had a fall, knowing that she was being cared for 24/7 as family it gave us peace of mind, she had three full meals a day she said it was good, the room was a lovely size and very comfortable for her, so once again Rachel thank you for your efficiency and making sure mums needs were meet at this very difficult time.

my mother was living alone at home with visiting day care. She has very limited mobility and forgetful. I arranged for her to stay in Avonleigh Gardens while i was away because I knew she would not be able to care for herself during the night hours. On my return from holiday, my mother was so much brighter
and happier than she has been in a very long time. She said she had loved the care and attention she has been receiving. I knew my mother was at a stage where she needed more care than she was receiving at home so, I asked her if she would want me to apply for her to remain at Avonleigh Gardens to which she said yes please. In the 4 weeks my mum has been here, the staff I have met have all been so pleasant to speak to and continually ask if everything is ok to which the answer has always been yes apart from, mum likes Bran Flakes which they did not have but they went and bought some for her. Her room is bright and airy with everything she needs.
Thank you for taking care of my mum.

Making a decision to put someone into a care home is not easy as you feel you have failed that person, but when you have no option the care home has to be right. From day one the staff really looked after this person, he was always well presented, happy and content. His health needs, his personal care,
diet was always 100%. Dovehaven staff are Angels they dont just look after the person they care for the families. I would have no hesitation to recommend Dovehaven to anyone.

We were unable to meet the staff or view the home due to covid, however it was the best decision we could have made. The staff from cleaners to management always go over and above. They really are a second family. They are extremely experienced and knowledgeable about the residents needs, constantly
reviewing and recording.
The atmosphere is loving, welcoming and calm.
At the end of my dad's life, they asked for him to transfer from hospital so they could provide palliative care. Staff sat and had their break with him so he wouldn't be alone, he was truly loved.
They treated him with respect at all times and made a difficult time that bit easier.
On the day of his funeral, staff lined up to pay respects as the hearse took him from his home one last time.
They are an absolutely amazing, dedicated team, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Thank you Deanwood for everything you have done.

I don't feel the staff have an adequate understanding of dementia. On one occasion, I overheard the manager speaking disrespectfully to a member of staff, unaware that I was behind the bedroom door.

During some of my visits, our mum was not dressed appropriately and was often left to her own devices

without proper support. The bedrooms are very dated and in need of refurbishment, and the furniture is also worn and tired.

The food provided was bland, with very little variety or choice. I also noticed that staff spent a significant amount of time on their devices. On top of this, one senior member of staff - described by my sister as having short hair - was extremely rude to my mother, which my sister personally overheard. Our Mum will not be returning for further respite.

Sandra and the team were WONDERFUL to my Mum, Jean. She was cared for and loved by all the staff.
There are no words to adequately express my gratitude to you all for the amazing love and care you gave to my dear Mum.
You made the last 6 months of her life the happiest that she has been in a very
long time and I am so very grateful to you all. You all went above and beyond for Jean and I am so very grateful.

Thank you all at Dean Wood Manor, now and into the future, from the bottom of our hearts.
Mum was officially diagnosed with Vascular Dementia in October 2022. In February 2023, she was placed in the first of 4 different Care Homes, all of which failed, due to Mum's physical and mental attitudes. Mum
finally moved into Dean Wood Manor in October 2023.
The care and attention at Dean Wood Manor has led to Mum being the happiest she's ever been, since getting diagnosed with this awful disease.
Mum's general attitude can often be confrontational and difficult. All the staff at the home are so patient and kind with Mum and they can pre-empt her moods and actions and make her life more bearable. We really could not be happier with the care she's received over the past two years.
James and I are so very grateful that Mum has finally found a home at Dean Wood Manor, where she is content, with such wonderful, caring and dedicated staff, who really have her best interest at heart.
