Grovewood has been the saving grace both for my aunt and our family. She has been so well looked after and has told me she feels happy and safe there, she has also said the girls are marvellous to her which is very reassuring especially due to lockdown. I am able to visit weekly now and find all the staff professional, friendly and caring. These visits have boosted my aunt up although I am kept fully informed via an app which I love and phone calls if needed. My aunt has also spoken to me via an iPad during lockdown which has been fab, as well as family zoom calls. I would have no hesitation in recommending Grovewood, in fact, I already have. I wish all staff great success, knowing my aunt is in safe hands means the world.
After being looked after by my Gramps, who sadly passed, we needed to look into a home for my Nan. We are in Devon so had no idea what to expect when we rang to find out how Nan was doing. We have been blown away by the care and consideration given to Nan including that we have numerous personal phone numbers of the staff there who go out of their way to make sure we can have regular contact with Nan via facetime and whatsapp. Any questions have been answered quickly and honestly always with the needs and care of Nan at the centre. Couldn’t ask for more for our Nan.
This care home is run by a special group of staff. They go above and beyond every corner to keep the residents safe and happy. My nan has been here a good few years now and has survived covid and blood clots thanks to the fast-acting staff, such amazing caring people.
The team are nothing short of amazing! Mum went into several homes during her illness until we found Grovewood. And we are extremely happy we chose well. Mum is settled and she is happy! The girls are thorough, the home is clean and well looked after. The girls who look after Mum and the other residents talk to the residents as if they are family or friends. We love the atmosphere at Grovewood and love how happy Mum is now. The manager stays in contact regularly and is extremely approachable and professional. Not enough can be said about this home and we sleep so much better now Mum is happy and settled and we know she has the best care.
My mum has been a resident at Grovewood for 8 years. The care she has always received has been excellent, with kind and considerate careers. The interaction of staff with the residents shows they respect the individual and their individual needs and interests. During the pandemic, all staff have gone beyond the call of duty and have been selfless in protecting my mum and all the residents. We live abroad and have been unable to visit during this pandemic. Staff have been fantastic in keeping us up to date with how mum is doing and if she needs anything. We are very grateful she is in such good hands.
The staff seem to be fully committed to the care and safety of the residents as I am aware of the sacrifices they have made by isolating themselves in the care home. We haven't yet made any internal visits due to the pandemic but I just know by seeing mum from outside that she is being well cared for and the overall improvement in her since moving in has been nothing short of miraculous. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this residential care home.
My mum has been at the home since last October, she has settled in well due to the friendliness and care of the staff. Mum has a good appetite and is very pleased with everything put in front of her. The manager and her staff have coped with the COVID situation exceptionally well, some of them remaining in the home at times, well done to all. Mum is safe and well taken care of at Grovewood, thank you to all the staff.
The staff team at Grovewood have always been excellent in looking after my elderly Mum. They have always been caring, friendly and professional. Contact with the family has always been good with any health conditions being communicated to me quickly. The manager leads by example and I believe her high standards have created a culture where I feel my Mum is being looked after. The fact that Grovewood was Covid free for ten months and was the last home to record cases is a testament to the controls and standards in place. My Mother's room has been refurbished. In addition, extensive investment has been made with the communal areas having been decorated and recarpeted. A replacement conservatory and new TV lounge have also been installed. I have no hesitation in recommending Grovewood.
I would just like to thank the staff for all the help and support and for being there with my mum 24/7. She thought she was on holiday living in a hotel and loved the home. They moved her to a new room and she thought she was being upgraded and loved her new room. With the covid being around we knew she was safe and looked after so well she was a new woman, I would recommend this home for any family they look after you well like a Grovewood 5 star hotel. They are dedicated to their jobs I call them angels.
Thank you for your review and feedback! We’re happy to know that you’re have had a good experience with us!
It is so lovely to see how happy all the residents are.
My mother has been here for about four years now. The home overall has improved dramatically over the last 18 months, completely refurbished and staff are great and caring.
The staff are really nice and seem to care about the residents. There are some issues but Mum likes living at Grovewood. Overall it is not as impersonal as some homes we been to.
I am very happy with the treatment my brother has received. Staff are always friendly and helpful. I have been to other homes and found this one the most homely. The food is always of a good standard. They have someone to entertain them and try and keep them occupied.
My relative is very well cared for at Grovewood. She feels at home here due to the care and attention she receives from the staff. She enjoys having her hair done and the activities provided for her.
The manager is excellent and caring and kind-hearted extremely hard working listens to any worries. Other staff are kind and caring. Things have improved since the previous manager left.
I can't praise management and staff enough. The kindness and the care they gave to all the residents was second to none. Nothing was too much trouble. They had activities, sing songs and quizzes every day. You could go in the home anytime and speak to management or staff they were always on hand to talk. The end of life care they gave to my brother was everything I could have wished for.
I have rated all categories as excellent because I feel my uncle is being cared for as well as he could be in any other care home. Some homes may be more modern and have up to date surroundings but Grovewood has a very homely feel about it. Staff are exceptional and my uncle is treated with dignity, care and friendliness. There is a healthy and humorous banter between staff and residents and I am amazed how understanding staff are of the conditions of those they care for. Management seem to do their best to create surroundings and an atmosphere which are calming and appropriate to resident's needs.
Thank you for the lovely review it keeps staff morale high and helps maintain pride in their care.
This home is special.
My grandfather had chronic back pain plus osteoarthritis, unable to walk unassisted. Staff were considerate, willing to help in any way they can. He was treated with care and respect talked through any problems.
The care staff some are quite young but well trained. Visitors can drink with cake or a biscuit or fruit. Thank you to all.
My mother looks well considering her conditions and illness, staff are all very friendly and helpful. Very pleased overall.
Whilst Grovewood is a Residential Care Home, this home has provided excellent care for my friends (minor) dementia. The staff are excellent in their care responsibility, and although the facility is a bit dated, it is very well maintained and clean.
When I visit my friend, I feel as though I have come to his home where he lives with friends and has simply delicious food.

Meet the Team (2)

Sonia Aldridge Manager of Grovewood. I have worked in the care sector for over 13 years starting as a housekeeper and shortly afterward going into a care role as a health care assistant. I then did my NVQ level 3 and was promoted to a senior role. I wanted to gain more experience and then I did my level 5 Diploma in leadership for health and social care in 2017. I joined the Grovewood team in October 2020 and was a night manager until I was then promoted to the manager's role.

Kerry is the new Deputy Manager at Grovewood. She believes that to be good in her role, one should be of polite disposition with a caring and supportive nature. Good communication and listening skills are important as well as time management and the ability to work under pressure. To be proactive and at times multi-task. Always smile.
The best part of her day is when a resident stops for a chat. She has great respect for the elderly and she loves to hear about their life experiences.
