My mother in law was well cared for during her time in Hilbre House. The building is beautiful and feels more homely than a care home. It is light and airy with beautiful views over the sea. The staff were friendly and caring and always available to discuss my mother in law. During the final months
of her life they moved my mother in law to a room where they could keep a close eye on her throughout the day and night. We appreciated this. Prior to that she had been very happy in an upstairs room with the carers regularly popping in throughout the day.
The food was good and as my mother in law’s health deteriorated they catered for her changing appetite. During the covid epidemic the care home carefully implemented precautions to protect the residents and carers.

This care home suits my elderly mother very much, it is light and airy, with a wonderful aspect overlooking the Mersey Estuary. The standard of cleanliness is very high. The staff all have a friendly banter with her which she thrives on. They look after her personal hygiene as well as her nutritional
and medical needs, calling the local doctor in as required.
The home also has a wide range of interactive and stimulating sessions for the residents as well as their own transport for any appointments that the residents need.

After much soul searching and viewing several residential homes, we chose The Chalet, Hilbre House Hoylake for our Dad, who has dementia. He moved into a lovely room with en-suite and sea views in February 2018.
We cannot fault the care he is receiving here, the staff are wonderful, extremely empathetic
to Dad’s daily needs, he is treated with dignity and as part of their family. The Chalet is furnished and decorated as a home from home, which makes the transition to care so much nicer. They have two resident chefs and the food is excellent. In a space of a few short months, he was eating again, had gained weight, was happy, content and he was safe. This has given us such peace of mind. To Dad, this is home, his sanctuary, which is all we could have ever wished for him. We strongly believe that he is still with us because of the care he is receiving.
As a family, we cannot recommend Hilbre House more highly,

Inspection ratings
We rate most services according to how safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led they are, using four levels:
Outstanding - the service is performing exceptionally well.
Good - the service is performing well and meeting our expectations.
Requires improvement - the service isn't performing as well as it should and we have told the service how it must improve.
Inadequate - the service is performing badly and we've taken enforcement action against the provider of the service.
No rating/under appeal/rating suspended - there are some services which we can't rate, while some might be under appeal from the provider. Suspended ratings are being reviewed by us and will be published soon.
Ticks and crosses
We don't rate every type of service. For services we haven't rated we use ticks and crosses to show whether we've asked them to take further action or taken enforcement action against them.
There's no need for the service to take further action. If this service has not had a CQC inspection since it registered with us, our judgement may be based on our assessment of declarations and evidence supplied by the service.
The service must make improvements.
At least one standard in this area was not being met when we inspected the service and we have taken enforcement action.
