Sandstones in Wallasey is situated within a mile of the River Mersey estuary on the Wirral. The home provides residential and dementia care for up to 35 customers in homely and comfortable single ensuite rooms.

Anchor works with customers loved ones to create detailed care plans which ensure each individual’s health and care needs are continually met. On-going dementia training is provided to care staff ensure their approach always reflects best practice. They recognise that everyone is an individual. The care team works hard to get to know customers, build relationships and ensure all aspects of the service provided is the one that people want.

All staff are very caring and Mum is looked after well. The catering staff deserve a mention as Mum is coeliac and they are always trying to tempt her with new things. Most problems are dealt with quickly.

After hip operation three weeks rehab. I was well looked after and helped to get over my hip operation.

The care provided in Sandstones is excellent. The staff and managers are always interested in my aunty, they really want to listen to her and to me and give the best support possible. They always go the extra mile. The atmosphere is so friendly and inviting. The dining room always looks beautiful in its various colours, my aunty often comments on how lovely it looked. She really likes the food and all the choices. She is also impressed with the great laundry service! She truly loves her home at Sandstones and I love that she is so happy. Thank you.

Excellent accommodation and care. The room is clean and well-maintained. Staff are very attentive, pleasant and care for all my Mum's needs. (Great standard of care). Although Mum can't always make it down for meals, it's no problem and the standard of meals is very good.

Extremely pleased with Sandstones. All carers are very pleasant and helpful and always seems to be something going on for residents. Very pleased to see my mother in law settled and happy with all carers.

Sandstones is a lovely care home in my opinion. I am happy that my nan is in a safe and friendly place. There are lots of things to entertain the residents and families are welcome for tea.

I find that the staff at Sandstone understand the importance of keeping residents involved in the activities provided throughout the whole day, while taking care of those who need rest and relaxation.
Residents are never bored or left alone while also enjoying privacy when required.

We are very happy with the care mum gets and the staff are so pleasant and friendly. Mum loves it here too and loves all the meals. She is very happy with her room too.

My mum moved into Sandstones in July 2015, and as a family who supports mum we have never looked back, it was lovely, welcoming, as soon as we viewed it we liked it. Mum moved in on 25th July 2015, we asked about own furniture and it was allowed, so we brought a small double bed, chair, tv. The laundry was organised on a room basis, which was no problem and if extras wanted to be washed that was no problem to the laundry staff. Mum says Sandstones is comfy, lovely, decent, friendly, nothing to have to do is a problem to the staff. I like the home, the staff, the furniture, the facilities. Special days are advertised, menus are printed for these occasions. Bingo is offered, which mum enjoys especially when she wins.
The food is great, there is plenty of it, mum just grazes all day, which I am happy about, at least she isn't going hungry, which was an issue in a previous home.
Sandstones, thank you, you have settled my anxiety, worrying, fear. I will always promote your good name.

My mum is a very difficult lady with vascular dementia. She is treated with care, concern, understanding and dignity, often in very difficult circumstances. Thank you Sandstones.

Mum has been a resident here since September 2015.
Staff are extremely pleasant and welcoming. They are genuinely caring.
Facilities are good and have improved recently with the redecoration and the "All our Yesterdays" area which is a good idea.
Always clean and fresh smelling. Mum enjoys the extremely well cooked and tasty meals.
Such a good idea that you call the rooms flat and have a letterbox in the door and a "kitchen" area,
I feel confident that mum is well cared for. Thank you.

Best alternative (to home) available. Generally satisfactory but think effects of care home crisis filtering through. Specific observation (not connected to above). I am surprised that Anchor as a leader in the field have not adopted best practice of other homes and hospitals and introduced proactive meal times with embargo on unnecessary disturbances - including leaving the television on and playing loud CDs and other noise emitting devices.

In response to your concerns on the care crisis - in Anchor, we are well placed to continue to provide high-quality care services despite the broadly publicised care crisis.
In response to your concerns relating to mealtime experience - we have for some time applied a protected mealtime service, this ensures that customers have a relaxing and attentive mealtime.
We have looked into the mealtime experience at Sandstones and will be making sure that those recognised practices are in place going forward.
I apologise that your own experience wasn’t one of best practice, we do take this feedback on board, we will support and monitor this service to ensure that the appropriate practices are in place.

My friend has been resident since 2010 and the home has changed over time but in an extremely positive way. The décor is much more 'user-friendly' and really does feel like 'home from home'. The staff ensure that they know the residents well and care for them as individuals (family and friends are looked after too!!!) I cannot fault this home at all!
