Hardest week of my life seeing my grandmother in a home. But I’m 100% happy it’s this one! She is smiling, laughing, singing and she’s clean. She had her hair done and has finally had a good nights sleep! Three hot meals a day with veg or fruit etc, as many brews as she wants. We can visit whenever
we want, we also take her out when we want! Her room is lovely with a really nice view and the staff are just amazing. The only thing I would say is maybe the ladies or gentleman whose eyesight is not so good, should maybe have a few more things provided to them as they are blind or hard of sight. Other than that I have no complaints, just positive feedback! Thanks, everyone, for looking after my Nan (my best friend).

Mum was a resident at Hillcrest for one year and during that time I had utter confidence and peace of mind that she could not have been anywhere better. It always looked and smelt nice and clean, with a homely feel to it.

My mum was accommodated on a respite basis and then ended up staying for nearly one year. The manager and home were very supportive and flexible on admission and she soon became relatively settled, making a good friend of one of the other residents. Over the year the amount of activities seemed to increase
and towards the end of her stay they appeared to be fairly frequent. All the staff were kind and supportive, responding to my mum's unpredictable moods and behaviour.

In relation to staff, all were good but some were excellent and went above and beyond expectations. We were never asked to input into a care plan or review which would have been useful.

When my mum left the home to move to somewhere closer to us, again the manager and staff were very understanding and supportive - this was greatly appreciated.

I find the staff to be helpful, respectful and courteous to their residents. The food seems good and varied. My only concern is that the residents don't have enough entertainment or activity sessions.
Perhaps if they asked churches/schools etc then had a few more music/choir/singers etc or physical
games - pass the ball etc.

From the minute Mum arrived at Hillcrest for respite 18 months ago, she has felt safe and comfortable there. The environment, leadership and staff have supported her and our family with her sad deterioration with Alzheimer's disease. I couldn't ask for more for Mum. Whilst sad, it is lovely to visit
Mum and her friends in a new home.

When the home carers decided they no longer look after my mother due to her severe dementia and lack of mobility, I had already looked at several care homes in the area but only came across Hillcrest at the last minute. After I dropped in unannounced, I was so impressed with what I saw! My mother
was accepted last December and I cannot praise the establishment too much. I have nothing but praise for the staff and management. I am sure that my mother could not be in safer hands. First class and I cannot recommend Hillcrest enough.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.496)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.496) out of 10 for Hillcrest is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.746 for Hillcrest is calculated as follows: ( (91 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 118 Ratings = 4.746
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hillcrest is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4, which has been reached with 10 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
