My mum moved to the home when she was no longer able to live independently and lived there for over 2 years. She was welcomed from the start and received a lot of support in adjusting to her new situation. She celebrated her 104th and 105th birthdays there, with lovely parties on both occasions. When
it became clear that the end was near the staff did all they could to keep us as a family well informed and to make her comfortable. She passed away peacefully in the home in her own bed and in a room she knew well which was important to her and her family.
Reply from Macie Cox, Marketing Executive at Sandiway Lodge Nursing HomeThank you so much for your heartwarming review, this means so much to us here at Sandiway. Mum is so missed everyday and please know our door is always open if you fancy a cuppa.

Mum was a resident at Sandiway Lodge for 10 months. Throughout this time she received excellent care from the wonderful team at Sandiway Lodge. Family were always made to feel welcome when visiting and residents are treated with kindness and dignity. The whole of the staff team including nursing, care
staff, domestic staff, kitchen staff and management are friendly, caring and professional. As mum's health deteriorated in her last few weeks, the level of care and compassion that she received was truly exceptional. Family were welcome to be with her at any time, we were treated with great compassion and offered drinks, food and even a bed for the night.
I would not hesitate to recommend Sandiway Lodge to anyone who wanted a loved one to receive the best possible care.
Reply from Macie Cox, Marketing Executive at Sandiway Lodge Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to write such a touching review for Sandiway Lodge. We send our love and support at this difficult time and always hold Mum in our hearts.

My Mum moved to Sandiway Lodge after a respite stay at a residential home as it was clear she needed a higher level of care. She was reticent at first, being fiercely independent her whole life. She also wasn't always the easiest resident to care for (tirelessly ignoring safely advice and protocols
about moving around unaided, even after repeated falls when she'd lived by herself, and even once mischievously acquiring the door code to break out so she could take a brief walk around the gardens, much to the terror of the staff, spring to mind!). But the care and affection the staff had for her was always evident (my Mum was a keen artist and without asking they bought her a table for all her art projects, as well as a dressing table so she could sit and put on her make up in the morning...just out of pure kindness), and she too had such affection for them and was so grateful for all the kindnesses they showered upon her.
I too wish to share my gratitude to all who cared so much for her.

The staff are amazing at Sandiway Lodge. They are all polite and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The care and attention was above and beyond and they keep you informed at all times.
Staff are all permanent and they also have a nurses onsite 24 hours. They don't use agency temp staff, so
you see the same smiling faces.
Rooms are all clean and tidy and the residents all look happy and relaxed.

It was a difficult time for the family, but the care staff and management made the move seamless. The level of care, respect and dignity was never less than excellent throughout the whole experience. They all work as a great team and each member of staff was thoroughly professional and always approachable
and always looked after the family during their visits. The building itself is very special and parking was never an issue.
I can't recommend this care home enough and wanted to thank all the staff for their kindness

All staff at Sandiway Lodge gave our father the highest standards of care throughout his stay. He was treated with kindness, dignity and respect by everyone. The family were kept up to date and welcomed to visit at any time. The rooms are well kept and comfortable and the food is excellent. During his
final days we were able to stay with him throughout and the staff looked after us and supported us, keeping us supplied with food and drinks and offering us somewhere to sleep.

The Sandiway Lodge staff have cared for my friend beautifully for the past 12 months. It can not have been easy, but my friend had only praise for his treatment and care. The staff are very welcoming to visitors and kept me well informed at an appropriate level. The lodge is a warm, clean, pleasant

Would highly recommend Sandiway Lodge care home, my father spent the last 4 months of his life here and the love and care he received were exemplary. Nothing was too much trouble and all the staff from the nursing care team to the kitchen, laundry, entertainment, handyman, and domestic staff were absolutely
brilliant. As a family, we were encouraged to visit whenever and they also treated my mother with great respect and love. A very well done to you all for making Dad's final months so comfortable and happy.

My father was a resident at Sandiway Lodge for 10 weeks before he passed away (in hospital) due to multiple health issues. The care he received from the whole team was wonderful. From Day 1 they were extremely professional, calling us up to double-check details of his prescriptions so that everything
was 100% clear. They treated Dad with so much kindness and patience, getting him involved with activities even though his dementia and mobility made this challenging at times. We visited several times a week and every time he had been washed, had clean clothes on, was comfortable and well-fed. Tasty, varied food and plentiful cups of tea. The team were always thoughtful and kind to my mother and me as well, offering us hot drinks at every visit and always having a smile and kind word for us. My mother underwent major surgery during this period and the staff always spontaneously checked in to see how she was. Based on our experience, I would recommend Sandiway Lodge without hesitation.

Although Dad wasn't at Sandiway for long he was very loved and is missed dearly. Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.851)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.851) out of 10 for Sandiway Lodge Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.851 for Sandiway Lodge Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (302 Excellents x 5) + (42 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 349 Ratings = 4.851
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sandiway Lodge Nursing Home is based on 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
